ITS THE ARGUMENT THAT TURNED DEADLY.

POLICE WERE QUESTIONING A MAN THEY SAY IMPLICATED HIMSELF IN THE DEATH OF A NEW YORK SUBWAY PASSENGER.
58-YEAR-OLD KI-SUCK HAN WAS PUSHED FROM A SUBWAY PLATFORM NEAR TIMES SQUARE MONDAY AFTERNOON -- AND KILLED BY AN ONCOMING TRAIN.
NEW YORK POLICE COMMISSIONER RAY KELLY SAYS THEY ARE GETTING INPUT FROM RIDERS WHO WERE IN THE STATION AT THE TIME.
We have a witness that says there was a shoving or a push, depending on how you characterize it.
IT ALL APPARENTLY STARTED WITH AN ARGUMENT. NEW YORK POLICE OBTAINED THIS VIDEO WHICH SHOWS THE VICTIM, WHOSE FACE IS OBSCURED HERE, RIGHT BEFORE HE WAS SHOVED ONTO THE TRACK. MTA WORKER NIGEL GRANT SAYS SOME RIDERS TRIED TO GET THE CONDUCTER'S ATTENTION AS THE TRAIN CAME INTO THE STATION.
And I see people trying to flag the train down before the train get to him.
THE TRAIN FINALLY CAME TO A STOP ABOUT THREE-QUARTERS OF THE WAY INTO THE STATION. PATRICK GOMEZ SAYS EVERYONE WAS STUNNED.
People are just standing in fear and shock not knowing what's really going on. Some people started running out of the platform, you know, other people just stood there, really didn't know what was going on.
WITNESSES SAY HAN FRANTICALLY TRIED TO CLIMB BACK ONTO THE PLATFORM AS THE TRAIN BARRELED INTO THE STATION.
HIS EFFORTS WERE IN VAIN.
HE WAS STRUCK AND KILLED BY THE TRAIN.
I'M ED PAYNE REPORTING.

THE NEW YORK POST IS BEING CRITICIZED FOR RUNNING A FRONT PAGE PICTURE OF KI-SUCK HAN THAT WAS TAKEN RIGHT BEFORE HE WAS STRUCK BY THE TRAIN.
MANY ARE ASKING WHY THE FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER TOOK THE PICTURE, INSTEAD OF TRYING TO HELP THE VICTIM.
HE SAT DOWN THIS MORNING ON NBC'S TODAY SHOW TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED.
I SAW THE LIGHT IN THE DISTANCE Of the approaching train and the only thing i can think of was to alert the driver with my camera flash.
do you think you had the strength or the opportunity to help him off those tracks? no this was a frozen moment there is a train approaching is there a second i am further away
HE SAYS HE'S SHOCKED THAT PEOPLE CLOSER TO THE VICTIM DIDN'T TRY TO HELP IN 22 SECONDS BEFORE THE TRAIN STRUCK.

Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. "

WEATHER IS COMING UP.
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Clouds will mix in with sunshine through our Wednesday, providing for a partly sunny sky, and at times, more clouds than sun.
Like yesterday, a few stray showers may develop during the afternoon, but the chance of getting hit by one of these showers still looks pretty slim.
With the extra cloud clover around today, temperatures should be a touch lower compared to previous days, but it's still going to be fairly warm for December standards. Most places should see daytime highs close to 80, most likely between 77-79°.
You'll also notice winds will continue to slack up today with wind speeds mostly between 5-10 mph out of the east.
Now, let's address the uptick in rain prospects coming our way. We all know rain has been pretty hard to come by lately across Southwest Florida , but the chance for at least a few isolated showers looks a little more promising than initially forecast earlier in the week.
The highest rain chances this week will likely come Thursday and Saturday. With that said, don't get too excited about the prospect of rain because rain probabilities will still be less than 50/50. We're talking about a jump from 10% rain chances to 30% rain chances, but hey, at least it's something.
By Thursday morning, a weak disturbance will swing across Southwest Florida, which should stir up the atmosphere enough to produce a few widely scattered showers. This means the showers will be hit-or-miss in nature, and not everyone gets wet. In fact, most of us should stay dry.
Once this system exits the area late Thursday, we'll dry out a little more Friday, and then it looks like a little more moisture from the Caribbean will build in Saturday, which should generate some more spotty showers Saturday afternoon.
Aside from these slightly higher rain prospects, our weather will stay pretty consistent in every other department. Temperatures will continue to run a few degrees above average, and sky conditions will stay partly cloudy through early next week.

Return to index of stories...
SEMINOLE, Fla. - "He was in tears. He was very distraught," said Kevin
Durbin.
Durbin was describing his fourth-grade son, and how the ten-year-old felt
when he came home from Starkey Elementary school Monday.
Durbin says for his family, like many other families with young children,
Christmas is a special time of year; with the man in the red suit taking
center stage.
"Santa's a big, fat, jolly guy with a white beard, and a red hat, with some
reindeer that brings them presents on Christmas Day," Durbin explained.
Durbin says his son, and others in the class, became upset when their music
teacher at the school began to speak of Santa.
"He told me that she went 'Santa' and made
the gesture. And he said it led him to believe that there wasn't a Santa
Claus," Durbin recalled.
Durbin, who also has a second-grade daughter at Starkey Elementary, said he
went to the school to voice his concerns Tuesday morning.
Melanie Marquez, spokesperson for the Pinellas County School District, said
the principal at Starkey is aware of the situation and is acting accordingly
.
"The goal right now is to understand the parent's concern and to understand
exactly what happened. So the principal will look into it, she'll speak
with students that were in the class, she'll talk to the staff members and
she'll see exactly what it was, to the best of her ability understand
what happened," Marquez explained.
Angela Pouliot also has two kids at Starkey Elementary and hopes this was a
one-time occurrence.
"It's kind of disheartening. It's not really the teacher's objective to
teach them about Santa Claus or anything of the sort. That's up to the
parents," she said.
Kevin Durbin just wants to keep the Christmas spirit alive and well in his
home. And he hopes that his kids will continue to anticipate Santa with the
same exuberance they always have.
"I believe that if he lives in your heart, that he's real no
matter what anybody else says," Durbin said.

IRAQ WAS THE GAME CHANGER. DRONES BECAME THE MUST HAVE KIT FOR FRONT LINE TROOPS.
"It went from being seen as something that is was really exotic to have one of these patrolling over head to you didn't go out on convoy without requesting full motion video."
MORE THAN 7,000 UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES BY THE END OF DRAWDOWN A YEAR AGO. ALMOST NONE AT THE BEGINNING.
"It is completely different in 2011, our soldiers learned, they adapted, technology adapted to conflict…"
TECHNOLOGY THAT GIVES SOLDIERS AN UNPARALLELED BATTLED FIELD ADVANTAGE. REAL TIME VIDEO OF THE ENEMY. WITHOUT PUTTING PILOTS IN HARMS WAY. IN 2009 THE US AIR FORCE OPENED THEIR DOORS TO US AT AN AIRFIELD NEAR LAS VEGAS. WE SAW HOW BY SATELLITE REMOTE CONTROL THEY FLEW DRONES. THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN.
"WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT NOW IS MY CREW AND ME BEING VIDEOED FROM THOUSANDS OF FEET UP IN THE SKY BY AN UNMANNED AIRCRAFT, UAV OR DRONE. THEY ARE REVOLUTIONIZING THE BATTLEFIELD. NO WAR IS EVER GOING TO BE THE SAME AGAIN."
AN IRREVERSIBLE DYNAMIC. BECAUSE NOT ONLY WERE THEY SHOOTING LIVE VIDEO. DRONES SOON GOT FITTED WITH MISSILES. NOW YOU COULD SEE AND SHOOT THE ENEMY.
"The Predator usually if it is armed goes up with just one missile, the Reaper can carry three thousand pounds of munitions."
IN THIS NEW WAR, KILLING AND SPYING BECAME EASIER. MOST MODERN ARMIES. EVEN SOME POLICE FORCES HAVE THEM NOW. THE CIA GOT DRONES TOO. TARGETING TALIBAN AND AL QAEDA IN PAKISTAN, YEMEN AND AFRICA. SO EFFECTIVE OSAMA BIN LADEN WROTE ABOUT THEM: THEY CAN EVEN DISTINGUISH BETWEEN HOUSES THAT ARE FREQUENTED BY MALE VISITORS AT A HIGHER RATE THAN IS NORMAL. BUT THE TOOL AGAINST TERRORISTS HAS BEEN TURNED. HEZBOLLAH WITH HELP FROM IRAN HAS THEIR OWN. SO TOO ANOTHER IRANIAN ALLY. SYRIAN LEADER BASHAR AL ASSAD. IS USING DRONES AGAINST THE REBELS. IT'S WHAT WORRIES WORLD LEADERS WHEN IRAN LANDS SOMEONE ELSE'S DRONE. NIC ROBERTSON,CNN,LONDON
