POLICE WERE QUESTIONING A MAN THEY SAY IMPLICATED HIMSELF IN THE DEATH OF A NEW YORK SUBWAY PASSENGER.
58-YEAR-OLD KI-SUCK HAN WAS PUSHED FROM A SUBWAY PLATFORM NEAR TIMES SQUARE MONDAY AFTERNOON -- AND KILLED BY AN ONCOMING TRAIN.
NEW YORK POLICE COMMISSIONER RAY KELLY SAYS THEY ARE GETTING INPUT FROM RIDERS WHO WERE IN THE STATION AT THE TIME.
We have a witness that says there was a shoving or a push, depending on how you characterize it.
IT ALL APPARENTLY STARTED WITH AN ARGUMENT. NEW YORK POLICE OBTAINED THIS VIDEO WHICH SHOWS THE VICTIM, WHOSE FACE IS OBSCURED HERE, RIGHT BEFORE HE WAS SHOVED ONTO THE TRACK. MTA WORKER NIGEL GRANT SAYS SOME RIDERS TRIED TO GET THE CONDUCTER'S ATTENTION AS THE TRAIN CAME INTO THE STATION.
And I see people trying to flag the train down before the train get to him.
THE TRAIN FINALLY CAME TO A STOP ABOUT THREE-QUARTERS OF THE WAY INTO THE STATION. PATRICK GOMEZ SAYS EVERYONE WAS STUNNED.
People are just standing in fear and shock not knowing what's really going on. Some people started running out of the platform, you know, other people just stood there, really didn't know what was going on.
WITNESSES SAY HAN FRANTICALLY TRIED TO CLIMB BACK ONTO THE PLATFORM AS THE TRAIN BARRELED INTO THE STATION.
HIS EFFORTS WERE IN VAIN.
HE WAS STRUCK AND KILLED BY THE TRAIN.
I'M ED PAYNE REPORTING.

Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Clouds will mix in with sunshine through our Wednesday, providing for a partly sunny sky, and at times, more clouds than sunshine.
Like yesterday, a few stray showers may develop during the afternoon, but the chance of getting hit by one of these showers still looks pretty slim.
With the extra cloud clover around today, temperatures should be a touch lower compared to previous days, but it's still going to be fairly warm for December standards. Most places should see daytime highs close to 80, most likely between 77-79°.
You'll also notice winds will continue to slacken today with wind speeds mostly between 5-10 mph out of the east.
Now, let's address the uptick in rain prospects coming our way. We all know rain has been pretty hard to come by lately across Southwest Florida , but the chance for at least a few isolated showers looks a little more promising than initially forecast earlier in the week.
The highest rain chances this week will likely come Thursday and Saturday. With that said, don't get too excited about the prospect of rain because rain probabilities will still be less than 50/50. We're talking about a jump from 10% rain chances to 30% rain chances, but hey, at least it's something.
By Thursday morning, a weak disturbance will swing across Southwest Florida, which should stir up the atmosphere enough to produce a few widely scattered showers. This means the showers will be hit-or-miss in nature, and not everyone gets wet. In fact, most of us should stay dry.
Once this system exits the area late Thursday, we'll dry out a little more Friday, and then it looks like a little more moisture from the Caribbean will build in Saturday, which should generate some more spotty showers Saturday afternoon.
Aside from these slightly higher rain prospects, our weather will stay pretty consistent in every other department. Temperatures will continue to run a few degrees above average, and sky conditions will stay partly cloudy through early next week.

PKG SCRIPT:
Democrats and Republicans remain light years apart.
Here's President Obama, in an interview with Bloomberg TV, describing House
Speaker John Boehner's plan to avoid the fiscal cliff.
SOT Obama
"UNFORTUNATELY, THE SPEAKER'S PROPOSAL RIGHT NOW IS STILL OUT OF BALANCE."
The Speaker's plan would raise 800-billion dollars in tax revenue, but does
so without raising tax rates for top income earners.
The President says that's unacceptable.
SOT Obama
"WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SEE THE RATES ON THE TOP TWO-PERCENT GO UP. AND WE'
RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET A DEAL WITHOUT IT."
Republicans, like rising star Senator Marco Rubio, say raising taxes on the
wealthy is the wrong approach.
SOT Marco Rubio
"TAX INCREASES HE WANTS WOULD FAIL TO MAKE EVEN A SMALL DENT IN THE DEBT,
BUT WOULD HURT MIDDLE CLASS BUSINESSES AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THEM."
So that's the major hold up - taxes.
Republicans and Democrats - deeply divided.
SOT Sen. Mitch McConnell
"THERE'S NOTHING GOING ON PRIVATELY, THAT'S NOT GOING ON PUBLICLY."
Amidst the political posturing, there may actually be a chance for
compromise on Medicare.
President Obama says he's open to raising the age when seniors can
start receiving benefits from 65 to 67.
According to one study, that would help save almost six-billion-
dollars a year.

Weather Trends

WE MAY NOT BE CARRYING FEWER PACKAGES THIS YEAR, BUT FOR SOME PEOPLE, THEY'LL BE CARRYING FEWER RECEIPTS.
"I choose the electronic. because I don't want anymore paper."
"I choose the electronic receipt to save paper."
"It will probably save it from getting lost."
FROM MACYS TO NORDSTROM, MORE AND MORE RETAIL STORES ARE OFFERING SHOPPERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE UP ON PAPER AND GET A DIGITAL RECEIPT IN THEIR EMAIL.
"I think it's kind of a natural progression for another paper intensive area of life to get digitized."
APPLE COMPUTER HAS BEEN OFFERING DIGITAL RECEIPTS FOR SOME TIME. BUT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON MORE STORES THAN EVER BEFORE ARE OFFERING ONLINE RECEIPTS.
"I don't think printed receipts will go away totally but I think more and more, we'll see retailers offering an option for digital."
BEYOND MEETING THE DEMAND FROM HIGH TECH CONSUMERS. WHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE FOR RETAIL STORES?
"It's faster, less paper, less expensive and get out out of the way, plus the store gets it's data file on the new consumer."
AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEND ADS AND PROMOTIONS TO THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS THEIR SENDING THE RECEIPT.
"It's clear more and more retailers will start offering these electronic receipts. Before you get one, there are a few questions you ought to ask."
"What specifically are you going to use my email address for?"
CLEARLY SOME PEOPLE WILL CONTINUE TO BE SKEPTICAL OF GOING WITH ELECTRONIC RECEIPTS, AND WOULD RATHER SEE A FAMILIAR PAPER RECEIPT IN THE BOTTOM OF THEIR SHOPPING BAG.
"I rather get it in paper."
"WHY'S THAT?"
"That way I have it in my hands and I know where it's at."
PEOPLE WHO LIKE PAPER RECEIPTS SAY THEY WANT SOMETHING THEY CAN HOLD IN THEIR HAND WHEN IT COMES TIME TO RETURN AN ITEM.
PEOPLE WHO LIKE DIGITAL SAY THEY OFTEN LOSE THEIR PAPER RECEIPTS AND KNOW THEY CAN FIND THEIR RECEIPT IN THEIR EMAIL.
AGAIN, IN A TIME WHEN PEOPLE ARE STORING AIRLINE TICKETS AND STORE COUPONS ON THEIR SMART PHONE. KEEPING RECEIPTS THE SAME WAY SEEMS TO MAKE A LOT OF SENSE.
