FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"More clouds than sun, a few spotty showers"
After a string of dry and sunny days, some minor changes are in the forecast over the next few days.
Through the early part of the day, we'll be watching an upper level disturbance sitting to our northwest in the northern Gulf of Mexico. With this weather system nearby and moving over head today, clouds will be on the increase with the chance for a few widely scattered showers.
Just like yesterday, mostly cloudy skies and a little bit of rain will keep our daytime highs capped in the upper 70s. It certainly won't be a washout by any means, but just be prepared for a few brief hit or miss showers this afternoon.
Tonight, as that disturbance begins to pull away to the east, clouds should begin to thin out with mainly dry weather in place. Overnight lows will settle into the lower 60s with one or two upper 50s on the thermometer across our northern cool spots.
The work week will end with a bit more sunshine and as a result, temperatures will rebound nicely into the lower 80s. Heading into the upcoming weekend, our skies will stay partly sunny with the opportunity to squeeze out a shower or two by Saturday.
Early next week, we'll be tracking another cold front sagging its way down the peninsula. At this time, forecast models are hinting at an increase in the cloud cover across our part of the state with the chance for some spotty showers.
Temperatures through the weekend and into early next week will run a few degrees above normal for this time of year. So even though the calendar says December, our weather is anything but winter like.

THE ROLLER COASTER RIDE ON WALL STREET CONTINUES AS CONGRESS REMAINS GRIDLOCKED ON THE FISCAL CLIFF ISSUE.
NICK, CAN YOU TELL US WHAT SPECIFIC CHANGES WILL TAKE PLACE AND WHAT CAN OUR VIEWERS DO BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR TO PREPARE FOR THOSE CHANGES.
Return to index of stories...
Well, first, we thought that more progress would have been made by this point but we are still hopeful that Democrats and Republicans will come to some compromise on taxes and government spending before the end of the year to avert going over the fiscal cliff.
But at this point, there are only 25 days left until the end of the year but congress is only scheduled to be in session until December 14th or next Friday. That means something needs to happen here pretty quickly or Americans will begin feeling the brunt of higher taxes.
Return to index of stories...
Likewise, the US economy will begin feeling the brunt of lower government spending as well as lower consumer spending since consumers will have less money after paying higher taxes. But here are some of the specific changes that Americans can expect if we go over the cliff at the end of December.
So first, income tax rates are going up for earners. The highest current bracket of 35% will increase to 39.6%. The 33% will go to 36%. The 28% will go to 31%. And the 25% will go to 28%. So what this means is that millions of earners will have less discretionary income after the 1st of the year.
Second, the long term capital gains rate for anyone in the 10% to 15% tax bracket will go from 0% to 10%. And for earners in the 25-35% tax brackets, your long term capital gains tax rate will go from 15% to whatever your ordinary income tax rate will be in 2013 as high as 39.6. What this means is that when you sell something for a gain, whether it be real estate or securities, you will have less proceeds with which to reinvest or spend.
Third, for all you out there with children under the age of 17, your child tax credit will be decreasing from $1,000 per child to $500 per child. Since this credit is a dollar for dollar decrease in your taxes, you can count on having $500 less per child to spend next year.
Fourth, the estate tax exemption or how much of your estate is excluded from estate tax will be decreasing from $5,120,000 to only $1 million in 2013. Additionally, the estate tax rate will increase from 35% to a top rate of 55%. What this means is that your heirs will receive less inheritance by virtue of having to pay significantly more in estate taxes.
Last, for all you still working out there, the payroll tax cut will expire next year. So for a $25,000 earner you can expect to pay $500 more in taxes. A $50,000 earner, $1,000 more in taxes. And a $100,000 earner, $2,000 more in taxes. Again less money for you to spend on goods and services.
Return to index of stories...
Unfortunately, only two of these changes you can do anything about right now. First, if you have significant long-term unrealized gains, you should talk to you financial advisor and CPA to discuss possibly doing some end of year tax selling.
Second, if you have a larger estate, that is significantly more than a million dollars, you should contact your attorney to discuss strategies to reduce your estate through estate planning and therefore reducing future estate or death taxes.
Again, all you can do right now is hope for the best, and plan for the worst.

There was nothing unusual about the artificial hips. What set this procedure apart was the way they her surgeon went in. Using the 'anterior' approach- he entered the hip from the front rather than the rear or side.
DR. ED HUMBERT/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON
RUNS:
3:33 You don't move any muscles or tendons off the bone, so you're basically separating and pushing the muscles apart as opposed to cutting them and splitting them. That procedure done correctly dramatically improves pain control and recovery times compared to standard hip replacements.
THE TRADITIONAL, POSTERIOR APPROACH GOES THROUGH THE BACKSIDE. CUTTING THE BODY'S LARGEST MUSCLE CREATES A HIGHER RISK FOR HIP DISLOCATIONS. GOING THROUGH THE FRONT IS LESS COMPLICATED.

FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
LIMITED COVERAGE OF SHOWERS
A few showers popped up this afternoon, but many places in southwest Florida were dry again today. Showers fell over Collier, Lee and Hendry counties this afternoon. If you were lucky enough to get some rain, you probably got less than half an inch. Looking at the forecast for the rest of the evening, I will likely be tracking a few more showers past sunset along with clouds moving across the area. Temperatures will drop very slowly into the 60's tonight and land at 60 - 62 tomorrow morning.
The forecast for the next few days is not very clear-cut. As we approach the weekend I can almost guarantee that the warm weather will continue. Highs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will easily top out above 80 degrees. The 'tricky' part of the forecast through the weekend will be the return of a little more tropical moisture from the southeast. By Saturday and Sunday it looks like there could be enough moisture around to kick off a couple of isolated showers over the weekend. It certainly does not appear to be a big deal, and like the past few days, the showers I'm talking about here would only cover a limited area across southwest Florida.
By next Tuesday it looks like we have a more pronounced front heading to Florida. The models increase the chance for showers both Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

So now we have three beautiful castles in the Magic Kingdom."
THERE ARE NEW RIDES. AND NEW PLACES TO EAT. LIKE THE "BE OUR GUEST " RESTAURANT THAT IS PART OF A HUGE NEW BEAUTY AND THE BEAST EXPERIENCE.

THERE'S ALSO A NEW EXPERIENCE INVOLVING "THE LITTLE MERMAID."
ONE OF THE NEW RIDES IS THE "UNDER THE SEA JOURNEY OF THE LITTLE MERMAID". WHERE YOU CAN INTERACT WITH CRABS. AS YOU WALK THROUGH THE LINE.

13-YEAR-OLD MCKENNA POPE COOKED UP A PLAN TO TAKE ON A TOY INDUSTRY GIANT.
THE 8TH GRADER TOOK TO THE INTERNET POSTING THIS VIDEO ON CHANGE.ORG IN AN EFFORT TO GET HASBORO, THE MAKERS OF EASY BAKE OVEN, TO CREATE AN OVEN FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS.
"I found it pretty appalling that they did not feature males of any sort in any of their packaging and promotional materials or anything."
MCKENNA TOOK UP THE CAUSE FOR HER 4-YEAR OLD BROTHER, GAVIN, WHO LOVES TO COOK.
BUT AFTER THE FAMILY TRIED TO GET AN EASY BAKE OVEN FOR GAVIN, THEY FOUND IT ANYTHING BUT EASY TO FIND ONE THAT WASN'T BEING MARKETED TO GIRLS.
MCKENNA SAYS THIS IS NOT THE MESSAGE HASBRO SHOULD BE SENDING TO KIDS.
"Why are women in the kitchen and guys are, you know, working? That's basically what Hasbro is saying. Really this company that I've grown to love so much would resort to conforming to societal gender rules? Like, I don't see why."
MCKENNA'S MOM SAID SHE STANDS BEHIND HER DAUGHTER'S EQUALITY CAMPAIGN.
"She's always been an activist. Whenever there's something that she really cares about, she goes all out to make sure that she gets her views across."
MCKENNA NOW HOPES HER APPEAL WILL CONVINCE HASBRO TO MAKE A GENDER-NEUTRAL OVEN IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS.
