FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

RAIN AND COOLER WEATHER SOON

A weak cold front is pushing through the Southeast. It initiated some strong storms from Louisiana to Georgia yesterday, and its eyes are set on us. This is the first of two fronts that will bring us rain.

It'll start migrating across North Florida tonight, and it'll reach us Tuesday morning. Ahead of the front we'll see the clouds increase. Those same clouds will stick with us on Tuesday, and yes, they will bear rain at times. Not widespread activity, the showers will be widely scattered at best. Just be sure to leave home with some sort of rain gear Tuesday.

Better safe than sorry, right?

We'll experience clear skies and a slight breeze behind this front. Temperatures will be in the 50s Wednesday morning, and then back to the 60s Thursday morning. Our daytime highs won't be affected by the front. We'll continue to see them hover around 80 degrees.

Friday is when cold front number two sweeps across Southwest Florida. This front will be very robust, and it'll for sure spark widespread showers early in the day. Sunny skies will follow in the front's wake, but that's not the big story with the front.

The big story is the temperatures it'll bring with it.

The front has an arctic origin. No, it won't be the coldest air we've seen by the time it arrives, but it will definitely be chilly. Morning lows will plummet to the 40s and daytime highs will struggle to get past 70.

Get the jackets and sweaters ready! Return to index of stories...

FLORIDA HIGHEST CELL PHONE TAX-CLIP-2-SHOT

IT'S REFERRED TO AS THE TALKING TAX-- AND FLORIDA HAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CELL PHONE TAXES.

NBC2 INVESTIGATOR DAVE ELIAS, DISCOVERS WHY THE TAXES ON CELL PHONES ARE SO HIGH HERE

AND WHAT'S BEING DONE TO BRING THEM IN LINE WITH OTHER STATES. Return to index of stories...

FLORIDA HIGHEST CELL PHONE TAX-LL PKG

Matt Caldwell/State Rep // 06:15:33 Why is it a different tax rate if I pick up a landline verses a cell phone? 06:15:37

Nat Pop from vintage cell phone ad

THE CELL PHONE WAS ONCE CONSIDERED A LUXURY AND TAXED AS SUCH.

Sam Henderson/ Financial Planner // 06:21:44 I've got four phones on that line. You know because of the family plan. 06:21:47

SAM HENDERSON, LIKE MANY FLORIDIANS, IS PAYING 16% TAX ON HIS PHONES.

Sam Henderson / 06:21:48 So that is interesting to know that Florida has that high of a tax on your cell phone. 06:21:54

IN FACT THE FOURTH HIGHEST IN THE NATION.

Matt Caldwell / 06:15:56 Having a different percentage tax certainly raises some questions. 06:15:59

QUESTIONS THAT PROMPTED REPRESENTATIVE MATT CALDWELL TO LOOK AT LOWERING THE TAX.

Sam Henderson/Financial Planner / 06:23:06 So it would seem only fair from the consumer point of view that the cell phone taxes would come down also because of the expanded use of them. 06:23:14

STANDUP: MANY PEOPLE MOVING HERE FROM STATES LIKE GEORGIA AND FLORIDA WHERE THE RATES ARE CHEAPER ARE CHOOSING TO KEEP THEIR

PHONE NUMBERS RATHER THAN GET A FLORIDA AREA CODE.

Terry Norbert/Cell Customer // 06:28:00 Where does the money from the cell phone tax go? 06:28:02

GREAT QUESTION; WE DUG DEEPER FINDING SOME OF THE MONEY GOES TO SCHOOLS, SOME TO 9-11 SERVICE AND SOME TO ROAD REPAIRS.

Matt Caldwell/State Rep // 06:13:37 That will be the real challenge for the committee that is how you make these changes and still try to keep everything leveled out. 06:16:42

NOW SOME CELL PHONE COMPANIES TELL ME THEY TOO SUPPORT LOWERING THE TAXES AS MANY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THE HIGH RATE.

THEY SAY YOU CAN VOICE YOUR SUPPORT FOR LOWERING THE TAX BY GOING TO www.mywireless.org.

Cindy/4:34:34 "Obviously I needed to take that chance and go after it."

AFTER MONTHS OF FIGHTING WITH SIGNS AND YOUTUBE VIDEOS TO KEEP THE HOUSE--BALTERMAN WAS OUT OF TIME.

Cindy/4:34:37 "It came down to the fact that no, we could not keep the home."

A JUDGE ORDERED LAST WEEK FOR HER TO LEAVE THE HOME ON FRIDAY--HANDING IT OVER TO TARP AND PROPERTIES, THE WINNING BIDDER.

Cindy/4:35:38 "You cannot pack in 11 years and move it in 5 days, it's just impossible."

BALTERMAN WAS GRANTED AN EXTENSION UNTIL TUESDAY--BUT SAYS THAT'S NOT ENOUGH.

Cindy/4:33:51 "We just need a little more time to get out, that's all we need."

Rick/News at 6:00 "Tarp and properties is supposed to take over possession of the home tomorrow morning. Balterman's hoping her attorney can work out another extension until after the holidays between tonight and then.
