ENGEL AND HIS CREW CROSSED INTO TURKEY FROM SYRIA THIS MORNING AND ARE IN GOOD HEALTH.
SPEAKING THIS MORNING ON THE TODAY SHOW, ENGEL SAID THAT HE BELIEVES THE GUNMEN WHO KIDNAPPED HIM AND HIS CREW IN SYRIA WERE A SHIITE MILITIA GROUP LOYAL TO THE SYRIAN GOVERNMENT.
We were driving in Syria about five days ago, in what we thought was a rebel controlled area. We were with some of the rebels, and as we were moving down the road a group of gunmen literally jumped out of the trees and bushes on the side of the road. There were probably 15 gunmen they were wearing ski masks, they were heavily armed. They dragged us out of the car, they had a container truck positioned waiting by the side of the road. They put us into that container truck, we were with some gunmen, some rebels who were escorting us, they executed one of them on the spot
ENGEL SAYS HE AND MEMBERS OF HIS PRODUCTION CREW WERE FREED UNHARMED A DAY EARLIER FOLLOWING A FIREFIGHT AT A CHECKPOINT IN SYRIA.

WEATHER IS COMING UP.
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
A very weak front will push through Southwest Florida today, bringing with it some thin clouds and perhaps one or two spotty showers during the first part of the day. A clearing trend will begin by midday, so look for plentiful sunshine this afternoon with temperatures peaking in the low 80s once the front clears.
The key word with this front will be "weak" because there won't be much of a cool down in its wake. By early Wednesday morning, most spots should cool into the upper 50s, but temperatures will quickly rebound to the low 80s by Wednesday afternoon. One thing that will be nice is the drop in humidity Wednesday, but expect this to be a modest drop and a very brief one.
Humidity levels will come roaring back Thursday as winds turn southerly, and morning temperatures are right back in the 60s. With a nice supply of sunshine in place, daytime highs should easily reach the low 80s.
For those ready for a nice cool spell, we won't have to wait too long. In fact, the coldest air we've seen so far this season will move in behind a strong cold front Thursday night into early Friday morning. Some scattered rain will be possible as the front slide through overnight Thursday, and skies should start to clear after sunrise Friday. A brisk northerly wind will keep temperature quite cool through the day, and it's very possible our daytime highs won't even be able to reach the 70s.
The stage will be set for the coldest night of the season Friday as temperature drop into the low to mid 40s across urban Southwest Florida by Saturday morning. The inland cold spots will likely record temperatures even colder with lows in the mid to upper 30s around sunrise Saturday.
The upcoming weekend looks cool and sunny with highs Saturday only in the upper 60s and highs Sunday breaking into the 70s.
Temperatures should start to rebound as we head into Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Highs will be close to the mid to upper 70s and lows in the 50s.
At this point, Christmas Day looks nice and dry with lots of sun!

SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE NATION ARE LOOKING AT HARROLD ISD.

My mantra has been this: as school personnel with children here we are our first responders.
SUPERINTENDENT DAVID THWEATT BELIEVES TEACHERS ARMED WITH A GUN WILL PREVENT A SCHOOL SHOOTING.
My goal is if someone tries to come in and hurt my little ones that they are killed.
IN 2007 THE DISTRICT ADOPTED A POLICY --CALLED THE GUARDIAN PLAN--IT HAS FOUR COMPONENTS BUT ESSENTIALLY TEACHERS WHO HAVE A CONCEALED HANDGUN LICENSE CAN CARRY A GUN WITH THEM TO SCHOOL.
In the five years it has been in place Prinicipal superintendent Thweatt says there have been no incidents at the school and he attributes that to the extra security measures they've taken.
Its just like seeing a clock in the room, not even in your mind you just know that it's there.

CHRISTMAS IS FAST APPROACHING AND IF YOU HAVEN'T GRABBED ALL THE GIFTS FOR YOUR LOVED ONES, YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER GADGETS.
ERIN MCLAUGHLIN HAS A LOOK AT WHAT TECH EXPERTS EXPECT TO BE THE BIGGEST HITS THIS YEAR.

: "Joining us on the hunt for the latest and greatest in techie gifts, journalist david McClelland. David, what is on your wish list this year?"
"Well, one of the most exciting things I've seen here so far is this. It's called a bubble scope and it's an attachment for your iPhone. It also works on some Android phones as well. You clip it onto your iPhone case and pop it up. And what it does, it takes 360-degree video or photos. It's a bit like having Google Street View in your pocket. It's something that's quirky, not really that expensive, so I think it's something that could pop up in a lot of people's Christmas stockings."
: "What's next on your wish list?"
"This is the Samsung Galaxy camera. This is the first time that a phone has been integrated into a compact camera to good effect. So, rather than having a little camera on back of a phone, where's it's a real compromise in terms of image quality, they've done it the other way around. So we've got 21 times optical zoom, getting proper camera optics, but with the connectivity of a smart phone. So this is a normal Android smart phone. It's got three G connectivity. It's got Wi-Fi connectivity, and the real killer feature, if you like, is that you can take really good quality pictures and then upload them to Facebook, YouTube."
: "Gaming is still huge for the holidays. What are some of the highlights?"
"Well, Nintendo has just launched its Nintendo Wii U, which is its next generation gaming console. Interesting, Nintendo has actually got a tablet. You know, we're all about tablets, iPads, service, whatever else. Nintendo actually has created a tablet that it uses as part of its game play experience, which is something that no one else is doing yet.
: "For this holiday season, it seems that you can't go wrong with cameras, camera phones and video games."
"Yeah, absolutely. Mobile phones are very big and accessories for mobile phones, particularly the camera accessories, and, yeah, gaming is always big at Christmas and with new launches and new games coming out, it's going to be what Christmas is about this year."
