THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We've got some magnificent weather on the way for Christmas Day across Southwest Florida!
We'll start things off this Christmas morning with a few passing clouds and lots of sunshine. Temperatures will be cool but slightly warmer than Christmas Eve morning as the warming trend continues for us today. After starting out with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, we'll end up warmer then normal this afternoon with highs close to 80°.
Aside from Santa and his reindeer this morning, the only thing we'll be tracking in our sky is some thin clouds flowing in from the west. Overall, we'll call Christmas Day partly cloudy and dry with a nice supply of sunshine.
If you're going out tonight to check out some Christmas lights or to simply enjoy the beautiful weather, temperatures will settle into the low 70s just after sunrise, and we'll cool off into the low 60s overnight and into Wednesday morning.
Wednesday will be another warm day with higher humidity and a little more cloud cover. A weakening cool front will also be heading our way Wednesday afternoon and evening, so we'll see the potential for a few showers and perhaps a couple rumbles of thunder.
By Thursday, we'll clear out and cool off. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the 60s, and we'll enjoy wall to wall sunshine.
The chill returns to the air Friday morning as overnight lows dip into the low 50s and even upper 40s. Temperatures Friday afternoon will be quite pleasant as daytime highs reach the mid 70s.
The next chance of rain for us will be Saturday as the next storm system heads our way. Most of the rain will clear the area Sunday, leaving us with a partly cloudy sky and another cool down coming our way toward the end of the weekend.
Happy Holidays!

THE IDEA OF HAVING A DAY OF REST HAS BIBLICAL ROOTS. EVEN GOD TOOK TIME OFF ON THE SEVENTH DAY. BUT TODAY, THE WORLD IS A DIFFERENT PLACE. WE ARE A 24-7 PLANET, WITH LONG WORK WEEKS, AND TO DO LISTS THAT NEVER END. AND AT SOME POINT, HEALTH EXPERTS SAY, WE NEED TO SLOW DOWN.
"Everyone needs a stop day. For some that may involved going to church or synagogue. For some that may mean doing the ny times crossword puzzle. But when we have that rhythm of rest and work, the work takes on more meaning."
DR. MATTHEW SLEETH, AUTHOR OF THE BOOK: 24/6, A PRESCRIPTION FOR A HEALTHIER, HAPPIER LIFE. HAS EXAMINED THE REASONS WE SHOULD ALL TAKE A DAY OFF. HE SAYS BEING ON THE GO, FOR MOST OF US, JUST MEANS MORE STRESS TO THE BODY.
"Virtually every study that's been done on this, shows that we are pouring out catecholamines, which are those kind of flight or fright hormones that are stress hormones. We are pouring out cortisol, which is a stress steroid in our body. "
AND OVERALL THOSE TAKE A TOLL ON OUR BODIES.
"They give us higher blood pressure, they increase anxiety and depression.and i think also psychologically knowing that you don't have a day coming up, that you aren't given permission to rest is difficult for people."
SO HOW CAN WE STOP? DR. SLEETH SAYS CUT OUT SOME OF THE TIME WASTING HABITS. GET YOUR NOSE OUT OF YOUR COMPUTER, PRIORITIZE WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU AND TAKE THAT DAY OFF. EVEN EATING YOUR FOOD SLOWLY HELPS YOU ENJOY LIFE IN A MORE HEALTHY WAY. AND CUT OUT THE MULTI-TASKING, AT LEAST AT HOME.
"There's a saying that the point of life, isn't to see how fast you can get through it."
SO BREATHE.
FOR TODAY'S HEALTH MINUTE, I'M HOLLY FIRFER.
