Increasing clouds, a warmer finish"
After a cold start to the day, our cool snap will quickly come to an end as our warming trend has begun.
Sunshine with a few patchy clouds will prevail through the mid day hours as temperatures gradually work their way into the middle 70s later in the day.
The cool dome of high pressure that brought us a quick dose of cool and dry air will shift to the east with more clouds filtering in from the south across our part of the state. Forecast models suggest a stray shower during the afternoon hours, however it looks like the vast majority of us will stay dry with increasing rain prospects by the first half of the weekend.
We will be watching a cold front approach the Florida peninsula throughout the day on Saturday. As a result, our skies will cloud up with a band of showers moving across Southwest Florida during the afternoon hours and quickly exiting to our south and east by the evening. Clouds will clear from north to south and a cooler and drier airmass will settle in across the state.
The better weekend day will be Sunday with sunny skies, however sweater weather will return as afternoon highs will remain unseasonably cool in the upper 60s. Temperatures will quickly rebound from the upper 40s on Monday morning into the upper 70s to 80° with mostly sunny skies and a dry pattern as we welcome the New Year.

AMERICA IS REMEMBERING A WAR HERO AND AN ICON.
PRESIDENT OBAMA IS CALLING ARMY GENERAL NORMAN SCHWARZKOP 'AN AMERICAN ORIGINAL.'
HE WAS A FOUR- STAR GENERAL. BUT MOST AMERICANS SIMPLY KNEW HIM AS 'STORMIN NORMAN.'
PAULA FARIS TAKES A LOOK BACK ON HIS LIFE.

nats Norman Schwarzkopf - How ya doing?
IN 1990, NORMAN SCHWARZKOPF WAS A LITTLE-KNOWN U-S ARMY GENERAL LOOKING
TOWARDS RETIREMENT. A WEST POINT GRADUATE AND DECORATED OFFICER FOR HIS
SERVICE IN VIETNAM, HE'D SPENT HIS ENTIRE CAREER IN THE ARMY.
BUT WHEN IRAQ'S DICTATOR, SADAAM HUSSEIN, INVADED NEIGHBORING KUWAIT IN 1990
"STORMIN NORMAN" BECAME A HOUSEHOLD NAME.
SOT Schwarzkopf - Let me put it this way it'll take as long as it takes for
the Iraqis to get out of Kuwait and the UN resolution to be enforced.
AS THE LEADER OF THE US LED INTERNATIONAL COALITION THAT QUICKLY DROVE IRAQI
FORCES OUT OF KUWAIT, SCHWARZKOPF ACHIEVED ROCKSTAR STATUS. HE RETURNED
FROM THE PERSIAN GULF A NATIONAL HERO AND WAS AWARDED THE MEDAL OF FREEDOM
FOR SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY.
AFTER RETIREMENT HE DECLINED OFFERS BY BOTH PARTIES TO RUN FOR POLITICAL
OFFICE.
PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH ISSUED A STATEMENT TONIGHT SAYING "Gen. Norm
Schwarzkopf epitomized the `duty, service, country' creed that has defended
our freedom and seen this great nation through our most trying international
crises. Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of
the great military leaders of his generation.

A HIGH STAKES MEETING WILL BE HELD IN WASHINGTON THIS AFTERNOON AS THE NATION EDGES CLOSER TO THE FISCAL CLIFF.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA AND TOP CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS WILL LOOK FOR COMMON GROUND TO KEEP AUTOMATIC TAX INCREASES AND SPENDING CUTS FROM KICKING IN.
ED PAYNE HAS THE STORY.
Return to index of stories...
IN WHAT IS SEEN AS A LAST-MINUTE ATTEMPT TO REACH A DEAL, PRESIDENT OBAMA MEETS AT THE WHITE HOUSE WITH SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID, HOUSE MINORITY LEADER NANCY PELOSI, SENATE MINORITY LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL AND HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER.
THEY HAVE ONLY FOUR DAYS TO REACH AN AGREEMENT. OR THE U-S ECONOMY WILL GO OVER THE SO-CALLED "FISCAL CLIFF." THAT'S WHEN AUTOMATIC TAX INCREASES AND SPENDING CUTS WOULD TAKE EFFECT.
REACHING A DEAL BEFORE THEN WON'T BE EASY. BECAUSE RIGHT NOW, BOTH SIDES ARE INVOLVED IN A HIGH-STAKES POLITICAL BLAME GAME.
We are here in Washington working while the members of the House of Representatives are out watching movies and watching the kids play soccer and basketball and doing all kinds of things. They should be here.
I told the President I'd be happy to look at whatever he proposes but the truth is we're coming up against a hard deadline here and as I said this is a conversation we should have had months ago.
DEMOCRATS WANT TO EXTEND THE BUSH-ERA TAX CUTS TO EVERYONE EXCEPT THOSE AMERICANS MAKING 250-THOUSAND DOLLARS OR MORE A YEAR.
MANY REPUBLICANS REMAIN AGAINST ANY TAX INCREASES.
MOST AMERICANS JUST WANT SOMETHING TO BE DONE.
People are just tired of partisianship and they want everyone to come together.
IF LAWMAKERS DON'T REACH A DEAL BY JANUARY 1ST, MANY ECONONMISTS ARE CONCERNED IT COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO ANOTHER RECESSION.
I'M ED PAYNE REPORTING.
Return to index of stories...
WE'VE ALL HEARD THE TERM FISCAL CLIFF.BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU?
IF A DEAL IS NOT REACHED YOU COULD LOSE TWO PERCENT OF YOUR TAKE HOME PAY BECAUSE PAYROLL TAXES WOULD INCREASE.
SO IF YOU EARN $25-THOUSAND A YEAR, YOU WILL LOSE AROUND 42 DOLLARS A MONTH.
THOSE EARNING $45-THOUSAND A YEAR WILL HAVE $75-DOLLARS LESS A MONTH.
AND IF YOU EARN $65-THOUSAND A YEAR. EXPECT TO LOSE AN EXTRA $108-DOLLARS IN YOUR PAYCHECK EACH MONTH.

HOBBY LOBBY IS FACING HEFTY FINES STARTING NEXT WEEK IF IT DOESN'T COMPLY WITH PORTIONS OF PRESIDENT OBAMA'S HEALTHCARE OVERHAUL.
LISA SYLVESTER EXPLAINS.
Return to index of stories...
HOBBY LOBBY IS A CHAIN OF CRAFT STORES THAT STARTED AS A MOM AND POP SHOP IN OKLAHOMA CITY. IT HAS GROWN TO A 2 BILLION DOLLAR OPERATION WITH 525 OUTLETS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. BUT IT IS STILL PRIVATELY HELD WITH A CORPORATE CULTURE ROOTED IN THE FAMILY'S CHRISTIAN FAITH. THE STORES ALL ARE CLOSED ON SUNDAY. NOW THE OWNERS ARE IN COURT OVER THEIR BELIEFS. THEY'RE FIGHTING THE NEW FEDERAL HEALTH CARE MANDATE. STAUNCHLY OPPOSED TO PROVIDING COVERAGE FOR EMPLOYEE USE OF THE MORNING AFTER PILL -WHICH THEY SAY IS TANTAMOUNT TO ABORTION.
Our basic point is the government can't put a company in a position of choosing between its faith and following the law.
THE CASE MAY SOUND FAMILIAR: RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS ASKED FOR A SIMILAR EXEMPTION FROM PROVIDING CONTRACEPTION TO ITS WORKERS.
During the health care legislation fight, there was a big division over who should get exempted. Churches have always been exempted from this, but other religious organizations have not. Early on the fight went back and forth and the administration finally said that religious colleges, universities, hospitals would be included in exemption for religious groups to not have to provide contraceptives as part of the new health care law.
BUT FOR-PROFIT COMPANIES - EVEN THOSE WITH STRONG RELIGIOUS TIES- HAVE NOT BEEN EXEMPTED BY THE MANDATE. HOBBY LOBBY'S CASE IS PENDING BEFORE THE US 10TH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS. BUT THE COMPANY IS UP AGAINST A DEADLINE OF JANUARY FIRST WHEN ITS HEALTH CARE PLAN KICKS IN FOR THE NEW YEAR. IN LESS THAN A WEEK HOBBY LOBBY IS FACING INCREDIBLY STIFF FINES.
The government is about to start imposing fines of 1.3 million dollars a day, I'm just going to repeat that 1.3 million dollars a day are the fines that Hobby Lobby is facing from the government.
THE COMPANY'S LAWYERS ASKED THE US SUPREME COURT TO ISSUE A TEMPORARY INJUNCTION. TO AVOID THOSE FINES. ON WEDNESDAY JUSTICE SONIA SOTOMAYOR WHO HANDLES EMERGENCY APPEALS FOR THE 10TH CIRCUIT DENIED THE INJUNCTION REQUEST SAYING THE APPLICANTS FAILED TO MEET THE DEMANDING STANDARD FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY RELIEF. THE WHITE HOUSE DID NOT COMMENT ON THE HOBBY LOBBY CASE, BUT PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS CONSISTENTLY SAID CONTRACEPTION IS A PRIVATE ISSUE BETWEEN A WOMAN AND HER DOCTOR NOT A WOMAN AND HER BOSS.

HE'S AN 11-YEAR-OLD WALKER HOUND NAMED BART, AND IF DOGS COULD TALK HE WOULD HAVE QUITE THE STORY TO TELL.
"I kept my eyes off of him just for a second."
DURING AN AFTERNOON WALK WITH HIS OWNER, HIS HUNTING DOG WANDERED AWAY AND FELL THROUGH THE ICE ON LAKE ERIE. HIS TWO FRONT PAWS KEPT HIM FROM SINKING IN.
"I tried to walk around to him and just too deep, and I just couldn't get to him."
WAIST-DEEP IN THE FREEZING WATER, JIM SWAYZE CALLED 911 AND THEN HE CALLED HIS COUSIN, LANCE WHO ARRIVED FIRST.
"I just wasn't thinking. I just wanted to try to rescue a friend of the family,"
WITH HIS WADERS ON, LANCE VENTURED OUT, TAKING A CHANCE ON EVERY STEP.
"It broke and I fell in, and I was probably about 3 and half foot deep."
HE FINALLY REACHED BART WHO SPENT AN HOUR AND HALF IN THE FRIGID WATER. LANCE HELD HIM CLOSE BEFORE THEY WERE RESCUED.
"I was talking to him, I was trying to keep him warm. I was trying to rub him and get trying to get some blood flowing through his body."
This dog's tale comes with a happy ending.
"I kind of looked and went, 'You know what? What if it was my dog? What if it was my situation? I would hope somebody would try to do something."
