6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

"You'll need the umbrellas today, sweaters tomorrow"

If you like the colder weather, hopefully you soaked up every last minute of it yesterday morning as lows dropped into the 40s. Our warming trend that began yesterday, continues today ahead of a cold front that will bring us another cool down by Sunday.

Thermometer readings this morning are running near 20° warmer with many locations in the upper 60s to low 70s. We may even see some low clouds and patchy fog, especially in the areas that received rain late yesterday evening. Skies through the day will stay mostly cloudy, however we may be able to see a few holes in the clouds revealing a few rays of sunshine through the mid day hours. A south and southwesterly wind flow this afternoon will fuel in some warmer air as highs quickly rise into the upper 70s to 80° with a boost in our humidity levels as well.

Another potent two sided storm system will continue to develop across our northern Gulf coast states with moderate to heavy rain through the Florida Panhandle to wintry weather including more snow moving up across the mid - Atlantic and northeast states today.

This system will direct another cold front our way with a band of broken showers and even an embedded thunderstorm moving across the peninsula during the hours of 2-6pm from north to south. Once the front passes quickly to our south during the evening, skies will clear and high pressure will build in. On northerly winds, cooler and drier air will sink down the spine of the peninsula with a return to sweater weather as highs on Sunday will struggle to reach 70° with overnight lows near 50° by Monday morning. Mostly to partly sunny skies will remain in the forecast with unseasonably warm weather as we welcome in the New Year on Tuesday.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

WALL STREET AND ALL THE REST OF US SPENT THE WEEK TEETERING ON THE EDGE OF THE FISCAL CLIFF AS THE DAYS DWINDLED DOWN TO THE BIG TAX HIKES AND SPENDING CUTS SCHEDULED TO HIT US ALL ON NEW YEAR'S DAY. UNLESS THE WASHINGTON POLITICIANS CAN "RISE ABOVE" THEIR PARTISAN RHETORIC AND APPROVE AT LEAST A STOP GAP BUDGET MEASURE.

THE CONSTANT MEDIA DRUMBEAT ABOUT THE FISCAL CLIFF FOLLIES APPARENTLY GOT THROUGH TO CONSUMERS THIS MONTH. THE CONFERENCE BOARD SAID CONFIDENCE FELL SHARPLY IN DECEMBER AND VARIOUS REPORTS SUGGESTED THAT WAS PARTIALLY REFLECTED IN LOWER THAN EXPECTED SPENDING DURING THE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON.

AND IF ALL THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT FORMALLY NOTIFIED CONGRESS THAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL HIT THE CURRENT DEBT CEILING ON MONDAY, ALTHOUGH THE U.S. CAN SCRAPE BY WITH ACCOUNTING MEASURES FOR A FEW MONTHS.

THERE WERE SEVERAL REPORTS THIS WEEK SHOWING THAT THE HOUSING RECOVERY IS CONTINUING.

THE CASE-SHILLER INDEX TRACKING HOME PRICES IN MAJOR CITIES FOUND A FOUR POINT THREE PERCENT GAIN IN OCTOBER. AND PENDING SALES, PREVIOUSLY OWNED HOMES UNDER CONTRACT, ROSE LAST MONTH TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN MORE THAN TWO AND A HALF YEARS.

PRESIDENT OBAMA SAYS BOTH HE AND THE NATION ARE OUT OF PATIENCE.AND HE IS URGING CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS TO DO THEIR JOB.

"If an agreement isn't reached in time, between Senator Reid and Senator McConnell, then I will urge Senator Reid to bring forth a package for a basic up or down vote. One that protects the middle class from an income tax hike."

FOLLOWING A HIGH-STAKES WHITE HOUSE MEETING FRIDAY, SENATE LEADERS APPEAR POISED TO WORK TOWARD A SOLUTION.

"And so we'll be working hard to try to see if we can get there in the next 24 hours. And so I am hopeful, and optimistic."

"I am going to do everything that I can and I'm confident Senator McConnell will do the same. But everybody, whatever we come up with is going to be imperfect. Some people aren't going to like it, some people will like it less. But that's where we are."

SENATE MAJORITY LEADER REID CALLED FOR THE SENATE NOT TO MEET ON SATURDAY WHILE LEADERS NEGOTIATE.

HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER HAS SAID HE WILL NOT BRING ANYTHING TO A VOTE IN THE HOUSE UNTIL IT HAS PASSED THE SENATE.

IF BOTH CHAMBERS FAIL TO ACT, NEARLY EVERY AMERICAN WILL SEE A TAX INCREASE STARTING JANUARY FIRST, AND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS WILL EXPIRE FOR MILLIONS.

"Ordinary folks, they do their jobs. They meet deadlines. They sit down and they discuss things and then things happen. If there are disagreements they sort through the disagreements. The notion that our elected leadership can't do the same is mind boggling to them. It needs stop."

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

HANGOVER CURES-OC

NEW YEARS EVE IS QUICKLY APPROACHING --

AND BEFORE YOU GO OUT AND DRINK YOUR NIGHT AWAY --

MIKE WILBER HAS SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU PREVENT THE DREADED NEW YEAR'S DAY HANGOVER. Return to index of stories...

HANGOVER CURES-PKG

SOT: LAUREL HOUSE / AUTHOR, "QUICKIE CHICK'S GUIDE TO LIFE"

"The reason why we have hang overs is because our body is having a hard time dealing with all of the toxins from the alcohol."

"QUICKIE CHICK'S GUIDE TO LIFE" AUTHOR LAUREL HOUSE SAYS BEFORE A NIGHT OF PARTYING, EAT A HEARTY MEAL. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. AND.

"Asparagus has also shown to break down alcohol faster. it'll actually help to minimize and then completely help to make your hang over non-existent."

IF YOU DIDN'T PLAN AHEAD, SIP ON SOME FRUIT JUICE IF YOU WAKE UP FEELING SICK!

"One of the things that helps to make hang overs go away faster is fruit juice. Fruit juice is filled with fructose and fructose helps to minimize the hang over by pulling out the toxins faster and processing them through the liver and getting them out of your body."

"Banana is a great hang over food because it's filled with potassium and also electrolytes so when your drinking your pulling the electrolytes out of your body it helps to refill them and refuel you."

COCONUT WATER IS ALSO FULL OF ELECTROLYTES. AND POACHED EGGS ARE A GREAT OPTION FOR PAIN RELIEF!

"Eggs are filled with a chemical called sistine & sistine helps to break down alcohol faster. You don't wanna have eggs that are fried or filled with all different other things. Poached eggs are the cleanest lowest fat & best way to have eggs in the morning."

WHILE AT "THE FOUR SEASONS - LOS ANGELES", LAUREL SHOOTS DOWN SOME HANGOVER CURE MYTHS.

"For some reason people think that having fried fatty food and spicy food actually helps to get rid of their hangover, it doesn't. It's actually going to aggravate your stomach even more. "

"Burnt toast is one of those strange myths people think, I'll have burnt toast it's going to make my hang over go away, it's actually not going to do anything in fact it might actually hurt you because of the burnt charcoal on the toast."

AND THE "HAIR OF THE DOG" THEORY OF DRINKING MORE ALCOHOL TO HELP YOUR HEADACHE IS DECEIVING.

"A bloody Mary is spicy and acidic, two things that you don't want when you have a hang over, as delicious as they may be, maybe have it when your not hung over." Return to index of stories...
