WALL STREET INVESTORS ARE GIDDY OVER THE NEW "FISCAL CLIFF" AGREEMENT!

BOTH THE NASDAQ AND S&P ALSO ROSE SHARPLY.

AT ONE POINT IT LOOKED LIKE THE DEAL WOULD FALL APART.
SOME REPUBLICANS PUSHED HOUSE SPEAKER BOEHNER--
TO *ADD* SPENDING CUTS TO THE AGREEMENT AND SEND IT BACK TO THE SENATE.
THAT WOULD HAVE PUT THE COMPROMISE IN JEOPARDY.
ULTIMATELY SOME REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSE JOINED THE MAJORITY OF DEMOCRATS AND APPROVED THE MEASURE.
HERE ARE THE BASICS.
IT EXTENDS TAX CUTS FOR ALL WORKERS EARNING *LESS* THAN 400-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR.
AND 450 THOUSAND FOR COUPLES.
IT PREVENTS A TAX HIKE ON ESTATES VALUED AT *LESS* THAN FIVE MILLION DOLLARS.
AND EXTENDS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR SOME TWO MILLION PEOPLE.
BUT A LARGE NUMBER OF REPUBLICANS DON'T LIKE IT.

There's no spending cuts. We're adding $4 billion a day to the debt.
What we're really doing is raising taxes to give the president more money to spend, we think that is a bad idea.
BUT THERE'S A LOT OF STUFF THE BILL DOESN'T DO.
TO AVOID THIS FISCAL CLIFF--
CONGRESS SET A NEW ONE!
IN TWO MONTHS--
IT NEEDS TO DEAL WITH THE AUTOMATIC SPENDING CUTS THEY POSTPONED--
AND THERE WILL BE A NASTY FIGHT OVER THE DEBT CEILING.

DESPITE THE DEAL, YOUR PAYCHECKS ARE STILL GOING TO BE *SMALLER*!
THE 2-YEAR OLD PAYROLL TAX HOLIDAY IS *OVER* SO.
IF YOU MAKE 30-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR--
YOU'LL PAY ABOUT 50-DOLLARS MORE A MONTH IN TAXES.
IF YOU MAKE 50-THOUSAND A YEAR YOU WILL PAY 83-DOLLARS MORE A MONTH.
AND ANYONE EARNING 110-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR--
PAY AN EXTRA 189-DOLLARS *EACH* MONTH.

A HOLIDAY SEASON THAT BROUGHT PLENTY OF CUSTOMERS THROUGH ED BARSAMIAN'S DOORS.
Ed Barsamian/Owner, Cafe Luna/0:51 "We've been doing very well."
BUT 20-13 IS COMING AT A COSTLY PRICE---ONE THAT WILL HIT HIS CAFE LUNA EMPLOYEES ALONG WITH MILLIONS OF AMERICAN WORKERS.
Debbie DeMaria/Naples 12:27 "Its going to make it very difficult."
ITS ALL PART OF A TAX PACKAGE THAT CONGRESS PASSED NEW YEARS DAY---LEAVING WORKERS WITH A 2 PERCENT INCREASE IN SOCIAL SECURITY PAYROLL TAX.
Debbie DeMaria/Naples13:30 "Its something that's being done by the Government and I have no control of."
THE INCREASE WILL COME DIRECTLY OUT OF YOUR PAYCHECK.
HIGH-INCOME FAMILIES WILL FACE THE BIGGEST TAX INCREASES---BUT MANY MIDDLE AND LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WILL HAND OVER MORE MONEY AS WELL.
Frederik Overdijking/Owner, 5th Avenue Coffee Company/7:06 "Every bit is always another bite coming out of the big pie."
THE EMPLOYEE PORTION OF SOCIAL SECURITY WAS REDUCED TO 4.2 PERCENT AS PART OF THE TAX RELIEF ACT OF 2010.
AS PART OF THE NEW FISCAL CLIFF DEAL, THE EMPLOYEE PORTION OF SOCIAL SECURITY WILL REVERT BACK TO THE FULL 6.2 PERCENT.
Frederik Overdijking/7:42 "I think they understand that these things come from higher up and its not business owners who make these decisions."
LEAVING MANY WITH NO CHOICE THAN TO TAKE THESE TAX INCREASES MONTH BY MONTH.
Frederik Overdijking 7:51 "We're just going to rally around, make sure they work hard and make sure business is successful, so we can all afford to pay these increases."

the dismissive attitude last night - typifies a strain in the Republican
party/we can't believe that this cruel knife in the back was delivered to
our region
AND IN THE AFFECTED REGION.
Gov Christie SOT
there's one group to blame. House majority and their speaker./this is
disappointing and disgusting to watch.
LAWMAKERS EXPECTED A VOTE ON THE SANDY AID BILL LATE LAST NIGHT - AFTER THE
FISCAL CLIFF DEAL PASSED.
BUT IN A SURPRISE MOVEHOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER PULLED THE BILL.THE HOUSE
WOULD NOT VOTE BEFORE THE START OF THE NEXT CONGRESS.
THE REACTION ON THE FLOOR WAS SWIFT AND ANGRY:
Nats from floor - noooo
THE SENATE ALREADY PASSED A MEASURE THAT WOULD PROVIDE ABOUT 60 BILLION
DOLLARS TO THE AREAS WHERE SANDY WREAKED SO MUCH HAVOC.
MANY HOUSE REPUBLICANS SAID THAT PRICE TAG IS WAY TOO HIGH.
BUT SOME BELIEVE THAT INTERNAL REPUBLICAN POLITICS MAY BE AT PLAY.
Gov Christie SOT 14:36:03
nobody has given me any substantive reasons for why this was tabled.
THE TIMING OF ALL THIS IS KEY - IF THE HOUSE DOESN'T VOTE ON THE SENATE
PASSED MEASURE, LAWMAKERS WILL HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCHBECAUSE THE NEW
CONGRESS WONT BE ABLE TO TAKE UP A BILL FROM THE OLD CONGRESS.
THAT MEANS THE MUCH-NEEDED AID COULD BE DELAYED FOR SEVERAL MORE WEEKS.
Rep LoBiondo
We needed this 5 minutes ago, 5 weeks ago- not a month from now!
Rep Pallone
We need to rebuild now. We can't wait for the next Congress

Actress Sharyn Peoples was headed to work last month and valeted her car near the local theatre where she was performing, but the next day the valet parking ticket she found in her car made her angry. Right there: four descriptive words scrawled on the ticket. she assumes written by the valet.
SOT Sharyn Peoples/Actress: "In handwriting it said, 'Play, Red Dress and fat,' on it."
SOT Sharyn: "I was mortified, embarrassed in front of my boyfriend especially."
Sharyn called the parking company looking to find out who was responsible.
SOT Sharyn: "I wanted them to be reprimanded appropriately and I wanted it to be handled in a manner where this would never ever happen to anyone again."
After complaining, she received this email from Dan Silva at LAZ Parking.
"Please accept our sincerest apologies," the message says. Moving forward, "physical appearance will not be written on tickets," and, "this type of situation will never occur again." Silva also offered Sharyn free valet parking and a restaurant gift card. In a statement to NBC News, the CEO of the company says he spoke to Sharyn to apologize and the employee who wrote that description on the ticket has been disciplined.
SOT Sharyn: "I hope, I hope and pray that doesn't happen to anyone else."
But apparently, it does happen elsewhere. Across the internet, people have posted their own versions of Sharyn's parking stub.
This receipt, allegedly from a chain restaurant, notes the to-go order is for, "nerds". And another receipt.order number 3-15 is apparently for an "Asian" customer. And at this chicken restaurant, two drumsticks and 6 wings appear to be for, "guy no hair."
SOT Bruce Weinstein/The Ethics Guy 1:37 - 1:47
"If there's any possibility that something you might say or do could hurt a customer, could hurt your business, could hurt your relationship with your employer, it's best not to do it."
As for Sharyn, the actress, she says she hopes people learn: Words hurt.
SOT Sharyn: "I think that knowledge is power and at this point I just think that people should know what happened to me and maybe, maybe this will change something."

Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s across the area. There will again be patchy fog forming tonight into tomorrow morning with lower near the 60 degree mark.
Through the day Thursday, cloud cover will be increasing ahead of a cold front. Then on Friday we can expect a few scattered showers as the front moves into our area. This front will be different from the past couple of fronts.
Cloud cover and the chance for a few showers will stick around through the weekend. There won't be a big cool down with this front either. Highs will still be in the upper 70s this weekend.
