6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

A cold front is parked right over us this Saturday, bringing lots of cloud cover this morning along with a wide range of temperatures.

Instead of moving south and bringing some cool air into Southwest Florida, this front is expected to do the opposite and lift northward through the day, keeping the warm and humid weather with us through the weekend.

One good thing about the front lifting back to the north today is some of the cloud cover will go with it, leaving us with at least some partial sunshine by midday and through the afternoon.

As far as temperatures are concerned, expect a pretty warm weekend for January standards as temperatures climb close to 80° during the afternoon. Humidity will also be higher than normal as lots of moisture collects south of the front. Rain prospects will be low today, but a few isolated showers can't be ruled out with so much moisture in the air.

Sunday looks a littler more promising in the rain chance department. By Sunday afternoon, an area of low pressure will move out of the Gulf of Mexico and track across Central Florida. This low should manage to bring us some scattered rain by Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, especially over northern portions of the viewing area. Rain could even linger into Monday as the front wiggles farther south and ultimately fades.

By Tuesday, more sunshine will be in store for us, but temperatures will continue to stay very warm. Daytime highs for most of the week will reach the low to mid 80s while overnight temperatures stay quite mild with lows in the mid 60s. Rain chances will stay pretty low from Tuesday through Friday.

For those wanting another cool down, we may have to wait a while our weather looks unseasonably warm through the next seven days.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

TODAY'S SNAPSHOT OF THE AMERICAN JOBS MARKET SUGGESTS THE COUNTRY TREADED WATER IN DECEMBER.

.ADDING NEARLY THE SAME NUMBER OF JOBS THAT WERE ADDED IN NOVEMBER.

THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE UNCHANGED.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH, SAY ECONOMISTS:

"We need to see much more robust job growth to really whittle away at the unemployment rate in a more meaningful way and have more fundamental improvements out there in the labor market."

THROUGH ALL OF 2012, 1.8-million JOBS WERE CREATED.

:

WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

-THE HEALTH CARE FIELD ADDED 45-THOUSAND.

-CONSTRUCTION ADDED 30-THOUSAND, WITH HURRICANE SANDY REBUILDING AND NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION HELPING OUT.

-MANUFACTURERS ADDED 25-THOUSAND JOBS.

.THE MOST IN 9 MONTHS.

-BUT RETAILERS CUT MORE THAN 11,000 JOBS IN A SIGN THE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON MAY HAVE BEEN WEAK.

DELTA AIRLINES IS HIRING up to 400 NEW FLIGHT ATTENDANTS.

ALREADY 43-THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE APPLIED!

"It means they have to stand out, they have to really have a passion for this and it needs to come through in their interviews."

23-year-old CAMERON BROWN WAS HIRED 2-years-AGO WHEN 100-thousand PEOPLE APPLIED FOR JUST A THOUSAND JOBS.

"it's very tough, i have a lot of friends who are still looking for jobs."

IN FACT, 12.2-million PEOPLE REMAIN OUT OF WORK. MANY HAVE SIMPLY GIVEN UP LOOKING.

BUT ECONOMISTS SAY THERE IS REASON FOR OPTIMISM IN 2013:

.WITH SIGNS OF CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT IN HOME CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURING.

-STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT LAYOFFS ARE LEVELING OFF.

-AND ALL OF THE UNCERTAINLY SURROUNDING THE SHOWDOWN IN WASHINGTON OVER TAXES and THE FISCAL CLIFF SEEMS TO HAVE HAD A MINIMAL IMPACT:

CNBC's STEVE LIESMAN:

"If we were to turn down the volume on all the in-fighting in Washington, it's possible that businesses could turn up the pace of hiring throughout the country."

Number one it does take some time for the vaccine to take effect and if you are exposed to influenza a very short time after getting the vaccine you can still get infected. Number two there's a lot of influenza viruses out there. The influenza vaccine will protect against three of those viruses.

BIZ WEEK REVIEW-PKG

A LAST-MINUTE BUDGET DEAL IN CONGRESS WHICH WAS SIGNED INTO LAW BY THE PRESIDENT HELPED THE ECONOMY AVOID GOING OVER THE SO-CALLED FISCAL CLIFF THIS PAST WEEK. EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS WERE EXTENDED, BUT INCOME TAXES WILL RISE FOR INDIVIDUALS MAKING MORE THAN 400-THOUSAND A YEAR AND A TWO-PERCENT PAYROLL TAX HOLIDAY FOR ALL AMERICANS WAS ALLOWED TO EXPIRE.

THE U-S ECONOMY ADDED 155-THOUSAND JOBS IN DECEMBER WITH MOST OF THEM COMING IN HEALTHCARE. MANUFACTURING AND CONSTRUCTION. BUT THAT SOLID GROWTH WASN'T ENOUGH TO REDUCE THE NATION'S JOBLESS RATE WHICH REMAINS STUCK AT SEVEN-POINT-EIGHT PERCENT.

IS THIS THE YEAR THAT BENCHMARK INTEREST RATES MAY FINALLY START EDGING HIGHER? MINUTES FROM THE FEDERAL RESERVE'S LATEST POLICY MEETING SHOWS SOME DISSENSION AT THE NATION'S CENTRAL BANK WITH SOME MEMBERS LOOKING TO END THE FED'S EASY-MONEY POLICIES AND THE PURCHASE OF BILLIONS WORTH OF BONDS EVERY MONTH.

SHARES OF APPLE GOT A BIG BOOST THIS WEEK ON REPORTS THAT THE COMPANY IS TESTING ANOTHER NEW i-PHONE, JUST FOUR MONTHS AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE TOP-SELLING i-PHONE FIVE.

Mr. Speaker how are you?

Gonna have ah, just going to have a few days of real life.

AFTER SURVIVING A FAILED COUP LED BY HIS OWN MEMBERS. A BELEAGUERED HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER WANTS TO TAKE THAT SAME FRACTURED PARTY INTO BATTLE.

IN A CLOSED DOOR MEETING OF HOUSE REPUBLICANS. A SOURCE IN THE ROOM TELLS CNN. BOEHNER SAID HE WILL DEMAND BUDGET CUTS THAT ARE LARGER THAN ANY INCREASE IN THE NATION'S DEBT LIMIT.

"WITH THE CLIFF BEHIND US , THE FOCUS TURNS TO SPENDING."

THAT PUTS REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS BACK ON A COLLISION COURSE WITH THE WHITE HOUSE. AFTER THE PRESIDENT INSISTED EARLIER THIS WEEK HE WILL NOT NEGOTIATE OVER THE DEBT CEILING.

"I will not have another debate with this Congress over whether or not they should pay the bills that they've already racked up through the laws that they passed."

IF THE PRESIDENT WON'T COME TO THE BARGAINING TABLE. ONE TOP REPUBLICAN IN THE SENATE, JOHN CORNYN. SAYS IN AN OP-ED IN THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE: "IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO PARTIALLY SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT IN ORDER TO SECURE THE LONG-TERM FISCAL WELL BEING OF OUR COUNTRY."

A PREVIEW OF THAT BRINKMANSHIP CAME IN THE HOUSE. WHERE 67 REPUBLICANS. INCLUDING HOUSE BUDGET CHAIR PAUL RYAN. VOTED AGAINST 9.7 BILLION DOLLARS IN AID FOR VICTIMS OF SUPER-STORM SANDY. DESPITE THE TONGUE LASHING THEY GOT FROM NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE.

"Shame on you. Shame on Congress."

THE FACT THAT THE REST OF THE STORM RELIEF IS NOW UP IN THE AIR UNTIL A VOTE LATER THIS MONTH. WAS A LET DOWN FOR NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY LAWMAKERS. EVEN THE FRESHMEN.

"I am new here. I don't know all the rules of Washington but it sure seems like the rule here is to put off till tomorrow what should be done today."

IT WAS A RETURN TO THE REALITY OF BROKEN GOVERNMENT IN WASHINGTON.

"Come on mom take a chance. Ruin your reputation here…"

AFTER ALL OF THAT GOOD-WILL ON DISPLAY. WHEN VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN WAS SWEARING IN MEMBERS OF THE 113TH CONGRESS. AND HAMMING IT UP WITH THEIR LOVED ONES.

ONE DAY LATER WE ASKED THE VICE PRESIDENT. IF THINGS HAVE CHANGED.

HIS RESPONSE. OFF-CAMERA. "WE'RE BACK TO CERTIFYING THE ELECTION."

BIDEN WAS HEADING INTO THE HOUSE TO CERTIFY THE RESULTS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. A RITUAL MANDATED IN THE CONSTITUTION. AND A REMINDER OF THE FEW THINGS THAT CAN GET DONE WITHOUT A FIGHT. Return to index of stories...

"We're at the East Coast firearms show at the Stamford Plaza Hotel

THAT'S THE ONLY ANSWER WE GOT FROM THE PROMOTER - WESTCHESTER COLLECTORS. THE EAST COAST FIREARMS SHOW IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST OF THE BEST OF VENDORS. OFFERING 250 TABLES OF ANTIQUE AND HISTORICAL ARMS. YET IT'S A GUN SHOW HAPPENING JUST 40 MILES FROM NEWTOWN.

"I believe that they should have the gun show."

"I'm very opposed to a gun show."

NO MATTER YOUR OPINION, ORGANIZERS WERE SETTING UP HERE AT THE STAMFORD PLAZA HOTEL TONIGHT. SIGNS AROUND THE LOBBY INDICATE THE SHOW IS STILL HAPPENING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. THIS AS SIMILAR ONES BY THE PROMOTER IN WATERBURY AND WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NEW YORK WERE CANCELED.

"It seems insensitive to have the event continue."

STAMFORD MAYOR MICHAEL PAVIA SAYS THE TIMING OF THE EVENT IS JUST NOT RIGHT-3 WEEKS AFTER THE SANDY HOOK SCHOOL SHOOTING.

STAMFORD POLICE CAPTAIN RICHARD CONKLIN SAYS HE UNDERSTANDS THAT SOME AREN'T HAPPY ABOUT IT. BUT SINCE IT'S BEING STAGED AT A PRIVATE FACILITY THEY CAN'T CANCEL THE EVENT.

"When you think of gun shows this is not your typical gun show."

"Captain Conklin tells me this is a show for weapons collectors and not anything dangerous. He says he's dealt with this organization before and never had an issue."

"We're going to maintain a presence there."

CONKLIN SAYS THE TRACK RECORD OF WESTCHESTER COLLECTORS HAS BEEN GOOD. THEY'VE HAD THIS SHOW FOR 7 OF THE PAST 8 YEARS IN THE COMMUNITY. THE POLICE CAPTAIN SAYS THEY'LL BE THERE IN FORCE TO MAKE SURE EVERY LAW IS FOLLOWED TO A TEE. Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

ALL EYES IN THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD WILL BE FOCUSED ON MIAMI. NUMBER ONE NOTRE DAME AND NUMBER TWO ALABAMA TAKE THE FIELD AT SUN LIFE STADIUM TO DETERMINE THE NATIONAL CHAMPION. THERE'S NO QUESTION, IT'S THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN RIGHT NOW.

Alabama versus Notre Dame is just a gift from the heavens.

BUT IT'S A GIFT THAT WILL COST YOU. TICKET BROKERS SAY IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SEAT FOR THE GAME YET, GOOD LUCK FINDING ONE UNDER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Currently they're trading between a thousand and twenty five hundred a piece.

FANS IN TOWN FOR THE GAME WELL AWARE THEY MAY END UP WATCHING ON TV.

I'm kind of cheap so I'm probably only going to go five hundred.

So we'll see what happens.

YEAH HE'S GOING TO BE AT THE BAR, BUT HE WON'T BE ALONE. MIAMI MAY BE FULL OF HIGH ROLLERS, BUT TWO GRAND FOR A TICKET? THAT'S HARD TO SWALLOW.

Not considering you could probably buy a pretty big screen TV with that price.

OTHERS ARE SHELLING IT OUT LIKE THE GUZY FAMILY FROM ALABAMA. THEY BROUGHT THEIR FLAG AND THEIR CHECKBOOK.

Little expensive, little expensive, but we had to do it, we had to do it. Can't miss it. Yeah, definitely worth it.

BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT'S STILL MIAMI. SO WHETHER YOU HAVE A TICKET TO THE GAME OR YOU'RE ON THE BEACH JUST TAKING IT ALL IN, HARD TO IMAGINE NOT HAVING A GOOD TIME. Return to index of stories...
