LIKE MANY NAPLES RESIDENTS---BOB AND CAROL MATENAER HAVE KEPT AN EYE ON THE CHANNEL---WATCHING IT FILL UP WITH SAND MONTH AFTER MONTH.

Bob Matenaer/Naples/14:19 "It was worse than we had anticipated."

TODAY, COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE EXPECTED TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY---ONE THAT SHOULD SPEED UP THE PROCESS FOR HIRING A DREDGING COMPANY.

Kathy Minniti/Naples/11:51 "I don't know how you could think its not an emergency."

THE COUNTY HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET A PERMIT TO DREDGE THE WATERWAY---WAITING ON ONE FROM THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS.

Georgia Hiller/6:11 "Let's face it, the permit has been coming for two years which in my opinion, is completely unacceptable."

THIS FORCED BEACHGOERS TO TAKE SHOVELS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS OVER THE PAST WEEK--BECAUSE WITHOUT FLOWING WATER---MANGROVES AND WILDLIFE WILL START TO DIE.

Carrol Matenaer/15:30 "They brought attention to the problem, and they did a valuable thing."

Georgia Hiller/5:43 "If I wasn't at the board meeting, i'd be digging with them."

BUT WITH AN EMERGENCY DECLARATION IN THE WORKS---COMMISSIONERS ARE ASSURING THE PUBLIC THAT SOME REAL DREDGING IS FINALLY ON THE WAY.

ROBERT WX OPEN-CLIP

Without any cold fronts headed for Southwest Florida anytime soon, our weather will stay unseasonably warm through the next several days.

The last cold front that made an approach on Southwest Florida has been fading and fizzling across Central Florida, and we expect this front to ultimately get washed out and stay north of us.

Temperatures will be the big story this week. Daytime highs today should easily reach the low to even mid 80s during the heat of the day, and temperatures will stay on track to get even warmer as we go through the week. In fact, there's actually a chance we'll come close to hitting record highs this week, especially on Wednesday and Thursday with our records at 85 and 86, respectively.

Aside from the unseasonably warm temperatures, we'll enjoy lots of sunshine as our sky stays partly cloudy through most of this week. The early mornings could be an exception, as we may have to contend with dense fog close to sunrise.

Rain chances will be pretty scarce this week with the absence of any big rain makers coming our way. Minus a few pop-up showers, our weather looks dry all the way through the upcoming weekend.

Some of the long-range forecast models indicate our next batch of cold air won't arrive until Thursday of next week. If these solutions pans out, this means we'll have warmer than normal with us for the next 8-9 days. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

WARM WEEK CONTINUES

A nice weather pattern has set up across our part of Florida and it looks like we are in for several more days like today. Skies will be partly cloudy with daytime highs in the 80's through the weekend. Overnight lows will average in the mid to lower 60's each evening and there could be another round of fog in the mornings for the rest of the week.

The quiet weather will have a couple of very small "wrinkles" in the forecast. First, as mentioned, there will likely be fog to contend each morning. Some places will see thicker fog than others, and the burn-off time could vary by a few hours each days. Second, it is certainly possible that a brief shower could develop in the afternoon. There are showers on the radar today but they remain very isolated and are moving southeast to northwest. That will probably be the scenario for the next couple of days as well.

As some of the country continues to deal with chilly weather, winter storms and snow - we will enjoy a week of relatively great weather! Return to index of stories...

This plan has changed probably 100 times in 10 years."

It wasn't approved by lee county commissioners until march 2012.

Since then they've abandoned that plan and are building whatever they want."

Sean O'Connell has a filed a lawsuit against the county and the port authority, Saying the moves hurt his properties and the community.

This is how the roads are configured now.

But by this summer- page airport road and south road become one.

the new roadway will look like this,

With sidewalks on each side.

Sot Sean

"It would be absolutely dangerous for them to be crossing this road at the conclusion of a blind curve."

Lee county and the port authority disagree, Telling us the plan is safe and there's been no major changes.

They offered no comment beyond that because of the pending lawsuit.

Nats construction

Lee originally voted for the plan because of the hope of new parking for nearby jerry brooks park.

But the approved plan just promises the park "the opportunity to provide additional unpacked or improved parking in the future."

FIREFIGHTERS AT BOSTON'S LOGAN FIELD DOUSING SMOKE ON THE PLANE OF THE

FUTURE. BOEING'S 787 DREAMLINER.

A PLANE MADE MOSTLY OF CARBON FIBER, A FANCY NAME FOR PLASTIC. JUST A

HALF AN HOUR AFTER AN INCIDENT FREE LANDING.

FRENI SOT: THE PASSENGERS WERE DEPLANED NORMALLY THROUGH THE JETBRIDGE

PROCESS.

BUT MINUTES LATER. A MECHANIC WORKING IN THE COCKPIT OF THE JAL JET WAS

CONFRONTED BY SMOKE BILLOWING FROM ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS IN THE BELLY OF THE

PLANE.

DONAHUE SOT: WE OBSERVED A HEAVY SMOKE CONDITION THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE

CABIN

BUT THIS JUST THE LATEST NIGHTMARISH INCIDENT FOR THE DREAMLINER SINCE ITS

2011 RELEASE NOW FLYING ONLY 6 OF THEM DOMESTICALLY.

LAST MONTH THE FAA ORDERED INSPECTIONS OF ALL 787'S FOR POTENTIAL FUEL LINE

LEAKS. ON THE SAME DAY, A UNITED AIRLINES 787 WAS DIVERTED TO THE CLOSEST

AIRPORT BECAUSE OF A GENERATOR FAILURE. AND A SIMILAR FIRE BROKE OUT

DURING TEST FLIGHTS OF THE CUTTING EDGE AIRLINER.

HANSMAN SOT: THIS EVENT OCCURED IN THE SAME AVIONICS BAY WHERE THEY HAD

PROBLEMS BEFORE. SO, IT RAISES A LOT OF QUESTIONS THAT WILL BE LOOKED AT AS

QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

BUT MOST AVIATION EXPERTS BELIEVE THIS IS JUST A NEW PLANE, AS I SAW AT THE

BOEING PLANT, ONE THAT IS USING AN ENTIRELY NEW DESIGN. BUILT DIFFERENTLY

, WITH NEW SYSTEMS AND MATERIALS. AND NOW GOING THROUGH A SHAKEOUT PERIOD.

HANSMAN SOT: I WOULDN'T BE CONCERNED AS A PASSANGER. THIS IS A VERY GOOD

AIRPLANE, BUT IT'S A VERY ADVANCED AIRPLANE. IT'S PUSHING THE ENVELOPE Return to index of stories...

If you are wondering what all the big companies are talking about here at

CES 2013. It is this, 4k Ultra HD TVs. That is 4 times the resolution of

probably the TV you are watching right now. 4 times 1080p. What that means

is beautiful picture. This is Samsung's S9 TV. It is 85 inches of beautiful

4k resolution. I mean it looks like I am looking at this animal right now.

Problem is they are not saying how much it is going to cost but it is coming

out in March.

The other big thing everyone is talking about at this show are things that

work with your smart phone. And I am taking about lots of things, your

refrigerator, your vacuum and even a fork. This is a happy fork, what that

means is, it works with your phone, it pairs with it. And the application

will tell you what you are eating and the fork will actually vibrate if you

are eating too fast.

It vibrated. it keeps vibrating. I'm a fast eater.

And the last big thing at the show has to do with your phone but it mostly

has to do with car tech. I am going to press this button on this iPhone and

a car, a parked car it going to unpark itself and come pick me up. And guess

what? No one is driving that car. This is coming from Audi, it is called

piloted parking and they are promising it before the end of the decade.
