Former First Lady Laura Bush to Speak Wednesday
at Mote Boca Grande Office Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Mote Marine Laboratory officials are pleased to announce that Former First Lady Mrs. Laura Bush will participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Lab's new Boca Grande Office.
The ribbon cutting, scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 480 East Railroad Ave., Unit 7, Railroad Plaza, Boca Grande, will mark the official unveiling of Mote's new Boca Grande Office.
The Bush family has a long connection to Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande, where they often spend time fishing and enjoying the environment. Mrs. Bush, who toured Mote's main campus in Sarasota in January 2012, has a special interest in ocean conservation - especially as it relates to the Gulf of Mexico - and will say a few words during the ceremony.
While he was President, George W. Bush designated the first-ever National Marine Monuments and, more recently, Mrs. Bush has advocated for similar status for certain areas in the Gulf of Mexico.
"It is wonderful to have Mrs. Bush participate in this historical event - especially given her passion for the protection and conservation of the Gulf of Mexico," said Dr. Kumar Mahadevan, Mote President and CEO.
Mote's new satellite office will be a focal point for a community-wide grassroots effort to increase knowledge of - and support for - the region's important marine environment and the conservation of it. The goal is to help engage the community and region in tarpon and other marine research undertaken by Mote in Charlotte Harbor and Southwest Florida. It will also highlight new research directions designed to support conservation of area fisheries and habitat.

ALSO, THE AUTHORITY IS LOOKING TO IMPROVE SOME OF THE AIRPORT'S EXISTING FACILITIES INSTEAD OF EXPANDING PARKING AREAS.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
WARM WEEK CONTINUES
A nice weather pattern has set up across our part of Florida and it looks like we are in for several more days like today. Skies will be partly cloudy with daytime highs in the 80's through the weekend. Overnight lows will average in the mid to lower 60's each evening and there could be another round of fog in the mornings for the rest of the week.
The quiet weather will have a couple of very small "wrinkles" in the forecast. First, as mentioned, there will likely be fog to contend each morning. Some places will see thicker fog than others, and the burn-off time could vary by a few hours each days. Second, it is certainly possible that a brief shower could develop in the afternoon. There are showers on the radar today but they remain very isolated and are moving southeast to northwest. That will probably be the scenario for the next couple of days as well.
As some of the country continues to deal with chilly weather, winter storms and snow - we will enjoy a week of relatively great weather!
