Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
The warm, humid weather will stay locked in across Southwest Florida for the next several days, and there's even a chance we'll match or break today's record high of 85°.
We were only one degree shy of tying the record yesterday, and today will be another close call.
Even this morning, temperatures will be several degrees above average with morning lows only in the upper 60s and low 70s; normal for this time of year is 54°.
Like yesterday, we'll again see the potential for some fog and low clouds forming, which should only stay with us through mid morning. For the remainder of the day, we'll enjoy a mix of sun and clouds with very warm temperatures as daytime highs reach the mid 80s.
A balmy breeze will also develop out of the southeast today with winds coming in from 5-15 mph with some higher gusts.
A stray shower may develop during the heat of the day, but any shower activity will be pretty spotty.
We really don't expect to see too many changes in our weather through the next several days. There are no cold fronts set to arrive through the remainder of the week, and the long-range forecast models don't hint at another cold coming to Southwest Florida until Thursday of next week.
Until then, the forecast stays warm, humid, and sunny with highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the mid to upper 60s.

"Within 24, 48 hours for sure really it doesn't do much of anything after 48 hours."
"Here's something to consider. If you are able to get to your clinic within a day of those symptoms coming on, you still may or may not be given a prescription."
"We want to try to make sure that we save it so that we have enough supplies and for the people that are most at risk so elderly people, people with chronic health conditions, really the people that are most at risk for being hospitalized."
YOUNG, USUALLY HEALTHY PEOPLE WILL LIKELY BE TOLD TO GO HOME AND REST.

"IT IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT CAN'T BE SOLVED BY ANY SPECIFIC ACTION. / IT'S A
PROBLEM THAT ENCOMPASSES ISSUES OF MENTAL HEALTH, OF EDUCATION, AS WELL AS
ACCESS TO GUNS."
With the one month anniversary of the elementary school shooting in Newtown,
Connecticut fast approaching, Washington has faced pressure to take
meaningful action.
Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was badly injured by a gunman two
years ago, is taking a prominent role in the gun debate.
Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, have launched an effort to push
Congressional action on questions of mental health, high capacity gun
magazines and background checks on purchases of a gun.
SOT Mark Kelly
"I BOUGHT A GUN AT WAL-MART RECENTLY AND I WENT THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK.
WHY CAN'T WE JUST MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY ILL
TO GET GUNS?"
The shock over the elementary school shooting has led many communities to
offer gun buy-back programs.
SOT- Dow Constantine
"IF WE CAN PREVENT JUST ONE CHILD, ONE INNOCENT BYSTANDER FROM BEING THE
VICTIM OR A RANDOM ACCIDENT OR TARGET OF AN USTABLE PERSON, IT WILL BE WELL
WORTH OUR TIME AND EFFORT."

Weather Trends
