6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

Saturday proved to be one for the books as temperatures soared to record territory.

In Punta Gorda, the previous record of 83 was broken as temperatures climbed to 85°, and in both Fort Myers and Naples, we ended up tying the previous record of 85°.

For our Sunday, temperatures will continue to stay unseasonably warm, but it will be more challenging to match today's record of 86° as daytime highs range from 82° to 85°. Locations along the coast will see the lowest temperatures as the breeze off the Gulf keeps the air slightly cooler.

We'll be basking in sunshine from start to finish through our Sunday with only a few puffy clouds building as the atmosphere heats up, but shower prospects will remain very low.

Winds will stay southeasterly between 5-10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.

Beach and boating conditions look good again today with the water temperature in the Gulf all the way up to 73°. Seas and open water will get up to 1-2 feet while inland waters stay at a light chop.

Signs point to the unseasonably warm weather sticking around for most of next week until a weak front stalls over Central Florida and ultimately gets pushed through by a stronger disturbance after next weekend. Until then, however, daytime highs should continue to reach the low 80s while overnight lows only cool to the low 60s. Temperatures should drop a little toward the end of next weekend as more clouds build in with the approaching front.

Even as the front nears Southwest Florida later this week, a moisture-starved atmosphere will keep rain prospects at a minimum.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL
