FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
COOLER WEATHER SOON
Today will be considered our day of transition as we go from above average temperatures back to the norm.
The balance of our day will be just fine. Partly sunny skies and a nice warm up to the upper 70s. A cold front will quick come over, and it'll give us a little cloud cover with a small chance of a shower this afternoon and evening.
So the first half of Thursday will be nice, but in the afternoon we will start to track some rain showers as the front approaches from our west. Skies should cloud-up after lunchtime and some showers will cross the area around 2:00 PM. The rain showers forecast should not last all afternoon and move through quickly.
I expect that most places will receive less than ¼ inch of rain tomorrow. The winds will increase by late day and southwest Florida boaters should be aware that the weather this morning will be nice, but it will turn windy and rough by the end of the day.
The aforementioned cold front coming in today won't bring a lot of rain; however, we will certainly notice a drop in temperatures for the next several days
Our highs in the 70's will quickly drop back to the 60's by sunset and we are going down to 50 degrees by Friday morning.
The extended outlook for the weekend looks cool with variable clouds overhead. High temperatures both Saturday and Sunday will be in the 70's and overnight lows throughout the area will noticeably cooler this weekend.

IT WASN'T TOO LONG AGO THAT INVESTORS HAD FEARS OVER EUROPE, A POSSIBLE HARD LANDING IN CHINA AND THE FISCAL CLIFF.
OUR WELLS FARGO ADVISOR IS HERE TODAY -- TO TALK ABOUT A FRESH START.
AND NICK -- WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE KNOW RIGHT KNOW ABOUT INVESTING IN 2013?
Return to index of stories...
Well first, I wouldn't blame anyone for being a little bit hesitant to get back into the markets after what we went through in the last five years and the tremendous volatility we experienced in nearly all markets…stock markets, real estate, commodities, and the fixed income markets. Let's face it, the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 was one for the history books and one that made a lasting impression on millions of investors.
· But remember, recessions are part of the economic cycle. You can't let the emotions of past performance or your perceptions of the current economic and political environment cloud your judgment when making investment decisions. It's through intelligent planning and investing that you will be most likely to realize your financial goals.
· Unfortunately, too many investors seem to be acting based on their perceptions of what's happening in the economy and the markets, but those notions don't necessarily match up with what's actually happening in the markets and economy.
· So right now, we believe there are several things that you should know right now that will help you as you put a plan together and execute that plan in 2013 and beyond.
Return to index of stories...
First, the stock market is up over 100% since the recession ended in 2009. The S&P 500 on a total return basis was up 16% in 2012. Stocks appear to be responding favorably to modestly positive GDP growth and Federal Reserve liquidity efforts. Accordingly, our analysts forecast another good year for stocks with a 2013 end of year forecast on the S&P 500 of somewhere between 1,525 to 1,575.
Second, fixed income carries higher risk than it did in the past. And of course that is because we've been in a bond bull market for the past 30 years. With interest rates at near zero percent, interest rates have nowhere to go but up. And when that trend begins, you need to know how much interest rate risk your fixed income portfolio has.
Third, and we talked about this last week, international markets continue to slowly improve. This is an area that many investors abandoned in the past several years but now might offer investors an opportunity for growth in the coming years.
Fourth, asset allocation is critical. In fact a majority of your investment returns will come from asset allocation alone. Asset allocation can be an effective way for you to balance your portfolio among various type of investments. The key is to determine the right mix of investments based on your risk tolerance and your investment objective.
And last, diversification is key. A significant part of developing your asset allocation strategy is having a diversification plan. Diversification doesn't prevent losses but spreads out your investments to help reduce the effect of a loss in a single market.
So, for those of you who have already put your investment plan together for 2013, go back and make sure you've addressed the five points we talked about today. For those of you that haven't put your investment plan together, call a financial advisor and develop one

THE F-A-A TAKES MAJOR STEPS IN THE NAME OF PASSENGER SAFETY.
EVERY 787 DREAMLINER FLIGHT IN THE U-S IS GROUNDED TODAY.
AS TOM COSTELLO REPORTS, THE DECISION IS CATCHING THE EYE OF EUROPEAN OFFICIALS.
Return to index of stories...
IT IS A DRAMATIC ACTION.
BY GROUNDING BOEING'S TROUBLED 787, THE FAA HAS ELEVATED BOEING'S PROBLEMS TO AN ALL-OUT SAFETY EMERGENCY.
THE ACTION COMING AFTER WEDNESDAY'S FULL EVACUATION OF AN A-N-A 787 AFTER THE PILOT THOUGHT HE SMELLED SMOKE.
LAST WEEK, A FIRE IN THE BATTERY RACK OF A PARKED 787 IN BOSTON.
NOW, THE FAA'S EMERGENCY AIR WORTHINESS DIRECTIVE:
"Before further flight, operators of U.S.-registered, Boeing 787 aircraft must demonstrate to the Federal Aviation Administration that the batteries are safe and in compliance."
"It is serious: We've had two events where there have been smoke and potential fire on board, and so I think everybody is responding appropriately."
WEDNESDAY's PROBLEM WAS LOCATED NEAR THE LITHIUM BATTERIES IN THE FORWARD BAY, UNDERNEATH THE FLIGHT DECK, BEHIND THE NOSE.
LAST WEEK's FIRE WAS LOCATED BEHIND THE WINGS IN THE 787's AFT ELECTRICAL BAY.
THE LITHIUM BATTERIES THERE THAT RUN THE AUXILIARY POWER UNIT WERE SEVERELY BURNED AND CHARRED.
LITHIUM BATTERIES, LIKE THOSE USED IN COMPUTERS, HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO OVERHEAT AND CATCH FIRE.
AFTER A SERIES OF IN-FLIGHT FIRES, INCLUDING THE CRASH OF A UPS PLANE IN DUBAI, THE FAA PROHIBITED LITHIUM BATTERIES AS CARGO IN PASSENGER PLANES.
NOW, POTENTIALLY SERIOUS TROUBLE WITH THE 787s POWER-GENERATING BATTERIES.
"These lithium ion batteries seem to be at the center right now of the fire and the smoke events, and that's a big issue not only here with Boeing, but other manufacturers who are using those same batteries."
IN A STATEMENT, BOEING SAYS IT IS:
".working around the clock with its customers and the various regulatory and investigative authorities."
AND:
"We will be taking every necessary step in the coming days to assure our customers and the traveling public of the 787's safety and to return the airplanes to service."
THIS BRAND NEW, STATE-OF-THE ART 787 DREAMLINER HAS BEEN A HUGE HEADACHE FOR BOEING.
"This plane is made not of aluminum but largely of plastic. That is a very big reason it has sold so well."
SIX YEARS AGO, WE WERE ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE AS THE FIRST 787 ROLLED OFF:
BUT PRODUCTION PROBLEMS DELAYED DELIVERIES FOR YEARS.
NOW, A SERIES OF EMBARRASSING AND DANGEROUS INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE PLANE:
"I expect that's it becoming for Boeing somewhat of a nightmare scenario. And that is because it is a technologically very advanced, cutting edge airplane and experiencing problems in several areas early in its service life. Will they fix it? Of course they will yes."
