Sunday will be a little warmer with temperatures hitting 79 degrees, and I am forecasting a little more sun for tomorrow, too.
The winds will continue to be brisk today. They'll come from the NE and range from 10-20 knots which will cause the seas to be around 3 to 5 feet and the inland water ways to be choppy. These winds will begin to diminsh tomorrow, and as a result our boating conditions will improve.
Speaking of improving. The skies begin to clear out Monday into Tuesday as another cold front approaches. The front will roll over the area early on Tuesday, and it'll help drop our temperatures down to near 70 again by midweek.

A DOZEN CREW MEMBERS ON BOARD A RESEARCH VESSEL ARE STILL A LITTLE SHAKEN UP THIS MORNING.
THE SHIP BEGAN TAKING ON WATER WHILE AT SEA, AND AN ALABAMA COAST GUARD CREW WAS FORCED TO MAKE A DARING RESCUE.
AND IT WAS ALL CAUGHT ON CAMERA.
ASHLEY KNIGHT HAS THE DETAILS.

AROUND 2:30 FRIDAY MORNING, 150 MILES SOUTHEAST OFF THE COAST OF MOBILE, A 170 FOOT LONG RESEARCH VESSEL, THE SEAPROBE, WAS TAKING ON WATER IN ITS ENGINE ROOM.
THOSE ON BOARD PUT IN A DISTRESS CALL AND SOON THE US COAST GUARD'S AVIATION TRAINING CENTER IN MOBILE WENT INTO ACTION.
"Both our H-60 and air station Clearwater H-60 and our 144 all converged on scene at around, between 5:30 and 6:00 and began to provide assistance because the crew at that time had already abandoned ship."
THE CREW, CLINGING TO TWO LIFE RAFTS IN 65 DEGREE WATER WITH WINDS MAKING IT FEEL LIKE SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES. IT'S ESTIMATED THEY WERE IN THE WATER FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF.
"The vessel that took on water ended up sinking and the people ended up in a life raft and that helicopter had put their swimmer in the water. He went over and he was taking the survivors one by one out of the life raft into the water and hoisting them up into the helicopter."
PUTTING THEIR TRAINING TO GOOD USE, THEY TRIED TO STEADY BOTH HELICOPTER AND RESCUE BASKET FOR EACH PASSENGER.
"On a day like today, we had pretty rough seas so the basket was going all over the place in the water, so I was having to chase it."
THE MISSION WENT FAIRLY QUICKLY, WITH EACH "HOIST" LASTING ABOUT 5 MINUTES. ALL 12 PASSENGERS SOON TAKING SAFE COMFORT IN THE TWO HELICOPTERS.
"It feels great, it's one of the reasons I do this job. One of the reasons I came into the Coast Guard was to do missions like this.

We had all systems go with the cooler air on Friday. It finally felt like January!
It's hard to believe that we were dealing with temperatures around 84 degrees most of the month then boom a cold front pushed through and forced us to barely get to 70 degrees yesterday.
So that's what we dealt with on Friday. Temps started off in the 40s and barely reached the 70s. Quite a shock to the system because we have become acclimated to the above average temperatures.\
As we go through the weekend we expect the cold front that ushered this air into the area to retreat to the north as a warm front. That will do two things for us:
1. Increase the temperatures
2. Give us more cloud cover
So we are anticipating a mostly cloudy weekend with temperatures starting off in the upper 50s then reaching highs near 79.
Today will not be the greatest of Saturdays. The clouds will be widespread, and we could pull out a faint drizzle or mist at times. There will be some breaks in the clouds and that will help us get to 78 degrees today.
