LEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE CONSIDERING A PLAN TO ELIMNATE IMPACT FEES FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS, AS A WAY TO SPARK NEW CONSTRUCTION IN LEE COUNTY.

IT'S THE EMPTY PLOTS OF LAND OFF TREELINE AVENUE THAT HAVE CAUGHT THE EYE OF DEVELOPER PAT CINIELLO
we're developing a family entertainment facility. We're in the bowling and and entertainment business.
BUT IN ORDER TO BUILD IN LEE COUNTY - CINIELLO HAS TO PAY AN IMPACT FEE.
we've been on hold. The impact fees were close to half a million dollars.
IN FACT - ANYONE LOOKING TO BUILD A NEW HOUSE OR BUILDING IN LEE COUNTY HAS TO PAY A FEE. THE MONEY IS USED TO BUILD NEW ROADS, FIREHOUSES AND SCHOOLS.
BUT COMMISSIONERS ARE CONSIDERING A MORITORIAM ON THOSE FEES FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS -
HOPING TO SPUR GROWTH AND NEW CONSTRUCTION.
my approach here is to give stimulus and impotus and momentum that's already being created in the construction industry.
In the last two years Lee County collected more than 18 million dollars in impact fees in new construction- The county predicts it will lose nearly 10 and a half million by eliminating them for the next two years.
how's that revenue going to be raplaced? As a taxpayer, what do you think my conclusion will be? It'll come in the form of taxes.
ESTERO RESIDENT PHIL DOUGLAS IS ONE OF DOZENS WHO LINED UP TO TELL LEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WHAT THEY THINK.
we cannot afford to have the impact fees taken, they sustain our ability to provide service.
IF APPROVED ON FEBRUARY 12TH - COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WOULD REVISIT THE MEASURE IN ONE YEAR TO SEE IF ITS WORKING.

AD LIB WEATHER TEASE
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
COOL NIGHTS MILD DAYS
High clouds most of the day kept us from reaching the mid 70's this afternoon. A northerly breeze tonight will help drop our temperatures this evening to the lower 50's. Some readings in the upper 40's will be on the inland thermometers by tomorrow morning. The high clouds and overcast skies should give way to a mostly sunny day tomorrow bringing our daytime highs back to the mid 70's on Wednesday. In fact, the overall weather picture looks mostly sunny for the next few days. Highs will be just shy of 80 degrees and overnight lows will continue to be in the cool 50's; however, with the clear weather at night there could be many places still dipping in the mid to upper 40's once again on Thursday morning.
The forecast weather maps show a weak front passing to the north of our area on Saturday and mainly dry and comfortable weather remains in place this weekend. The long-range outlook shows me a bit of a warm-up next week and it seems reasonable to forecast some 80 degree weather coming back by next Monday. Rain showers stay out of the picture for the next several days.

A NAPLES MAN ISN'T TOO HAPPY ABOUT LOUD AIRPLANES FLYING NEAR HIS HOME AND HE'S MADE HIS POINT VERY CLEAR.
.
HE'S FILED 75 NOISE COMPLAINTS WITH THE NAPLES AIRPORT, IN ONE MONTH.
THAT'S WHERE NBC2'S RICK RITTER IS, LIVE.
AND RICK, THERE'S A TWIST TO THIS STORY.

75 COMPLAINTS IS CERTAINLY A LOT - BUT WHATS EVEN MORE INTERESTING IS THAT AFTER ALLL OF THESE COMPLAINTS - NOW THE MAN IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.

RUSS DUGGAN KNOWS ALL ABOUT NOISEY JETS - LIVING RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AIRPORTS FLIGHT PATH.
12:32:27 Russ Duggan/"You can hear one going over right now."
BUT EVEN DUGGAN HAS NEVER HEARD OF THIS CRAZY NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS.
12:34:00 Russ Duggan/"There's planes coming in but 75 in a short period of time - seems a little odd."
IT'S ODD TO THE NAPLESAIRPORT AUTHORITY AS WELL - RECEIVING 105 OF THEM IN THE MONTH OF DECEMBER - 75 ALL FROM NAPLES RESIDENT TODD ERICKSON.
15:04:47 "One day, one hour, one 15 minute period he sends us 9 10 or 12."
ERICKSON FILED 17 NOISE COMPLAINTS ALONE ON DECEMBER 7TH - ALL WITHIN A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR.
AIRPORT OFFICIALS SAY HE FOUND A WAY TO SUBMIT THE SAME COMPLAINT OVER AND OVER ONLINE.
15:06:44 "It's real rare - it's real rare."
WHAT'S EVEN HARDER TO BELIEVE IS THAT ERICKSONS HOME IS NOT WITHIN THE AIRPORT'S FLIGHT PATHS FOR ITS TWO INTERSECTING RUNWAYS.
15:05:20 "It's not in a normal flight path in any way."
AND THE FACT THAT NO ONE CAN SEEM TO GET A HOLD OF HIM.
WE TRIED REACHING OUT TO ERICKSON TODAY BUT COULDN'T TRACK HIM DOWN.
IT'S THE SAME PROBLEMAIRPORT OFFICIALS ARE HAVING SINCE HE WON'T RETURN THEIR CALLS OR E-MAILS EITHER.
15:05:30 "When we have somebody whose really upset we like to talk to them so we can try and make them understand."
AIRPORT OFFICIALS SAY BUYING INTO THESE COMPLAINTS COULD'VE ALTERED THEIR 2013 PLANS.
15:09:31 "It might have changed our direction - made us go after something that may exist or may not."
BUT THEY'RE JUST ASKING FOR ERICKSON TO COME FORWARD - SO THEY CAN GET TO THE BOTTOM OF HIS COMPLAINING
