Today's Weather Story
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"More sunshine is in store for your Thursday"
After a few days with mid and high level clouds blocking out our sunshine, brighter days are ahead across Southwest Florida with a series of cool mornings and warm afternoons.
Now that those clouds have shifted to our south, skies have gone mostly clear overnight allowing temperatures to drop near 50° here in town with colder readings in the 40s across our inland and northern cold spots. Through the day, plan on a mostly sunny sky with pleasant afternoon temperatures in the middle 70s.
Tonight, clear conditions will be in control of our skies, however temperatures won't be quite as cold. Overnight lows will bottom out in the lower to middle 50s with a few chillier spots east of I75.
A nice bubble of dry high pressure will continue to settle in from the northwest through the end of the week. This will keep our weather pattern mostly sunny and free of any rain. We'll also see a gradual warming trend as this cooler airmass begins to moderate.
A weakening cool front will approach the area over the weekend and eventually wash out. With this front close by, we'll more than likely see a few more clouds dotting our sky by Friday and Saturday. Through the weekend, temperatures will warm into the upper 70s with lows in the upper 50s, with a return to the 80s by next week.

Weather Trends

THE RETAIL INDUSTRY HAS BEEN CHANGING AND EVOLVING OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. AND SO HAS THE WAY WE SHOP.
BOB HANSEN EXPLAINS WHAT HAS CHANGED AND HOW IT SHAPES THE FUTURE.
Return to index of stories...
IT'S ANOTHER DAY AT FASHION VALLEY MALL, BUT WHILE THE PEOPLE HOLDING THE SHOPPING BAGS MAY NOT NOTICE, BEHIND THE SCENES, MALLS LIKE THIS ONE ARE ALWAYS CHANGING.
"The retail industry has probably been changing more in the last five years or so than it did for decades."
MARKETING PROFESSOR GEORGE BLECH SAYS LOOK NO FURTHER THAN YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN FOR THE REASON BEHIND THE CHANGES. PEOPLE SIMPLY DON'T SHOP THE SAME WAY AS THEY USED TO.
"So it's a real challenge for the traditional retailer to figure out how am I going to compete against this new type of consumer behavior that we're seeing."
"It is, kind of ever evolving."
AN EVOLUTION THAT MEANS CHANGING THE WAY OUR MALLS LOOK TODAY. INCORPORATING MORE TECHNOLOGY AT INDIVIDUAL STORES. AND IN SOME CASES IT MEANS CHANGING LOCATIONS.
"The mall business, there's so much that goes on behind the scenes in identifying the proper retail mix to best compliment the center."
AND THAT MIX DOESN'T STAY THE SAME, FOR INSTANCE CRATE & BARREL IS MOVING OUT OF FASHION VALLEY, DIRECTING SHOPPERS TO THEIR MUCH LARGER RETAIL STORE AT ANOTHER MALL.
"Places like best buy, crate and barrel, they're reducing the number of stores. in many cases they're trying to be much more strategic, in terms of their location, in many cases they're downsizing the stores."
"So with all the impact of the internet, stores may come and go, but will the malls ever disappear?"
"I don't think that the mall is going away because as consumers we love to go there. shopping is leisure activity, shopping is recreation." 09:52:23,22-09:52:32,16
