6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

A picture perfect weekend is in the works as the sun keeps shining on Southwest Florida and temperatures continue to warm up.

We'll enjoy wall to wall sunshine through our weekend with daytime highs closing in on 80° Saturday and then breaking into the low 80s Sunday.

Overnight and early morning temperatures will still be a little cool with morning lows Sunday dropping into the mid to low 50s once again.

Humidity levels will also be quite comfortable both Saturday and Sunday, and winds will be fairly light out of the north and east from 5-10 mph.

With the air being so dry, rain prospects will stay very slim through the weekend and into the first half of next week.

For the boaters and beach goers, conditions on the waters will be very nice; winds will be out of the northwest at 10 knots, and seas will only get up to 2 feet. Inland waters should also be fairly smooth.

As we head into next week, a south wind will bring in more warmth and increasing humidity. Daytime highs will exceed 80° from Monday through Wednesday, and in fact, we'll even hit the mid 80s by Wednesday afternoon!

The next cold front will come sweeping through Southwest Florida early Thursday, and there appears to be enough moisture and energy with this system to bring us some scattered rain followed by another stretch of cooler weather by the end of the week.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

OBAMA'S ADMINISTRATION-PKG

THE SAME DAY HE NAMED DENIS MCDONOUGH TO BECOME HIS CHIEF OF STAFF.

"When he helped set up my Senate office. along with Pete Rouse he was able to show me where the restrooms were."

PRESIDENT OBAMA ALSO NAMED FOUR WOMEN TO SENIOR WHITE HOUSE POSTS, INCLUDING PROSECUTOR LISA MONACO, TO BE WHITE HOUSE HOMELAND SECURITY ADVISER.

NO DOUBT A DOWN PAYMENT ON THIS ASSURANCE.

"I would just suggest that everybody kind of wait until they've seen all my appointments, who's in the White House staff and who's in my Cabinet before they rush to judgment."

EVEN IF WOMEN FILL ALL THE ADMINISTRATION'S REMAINING POSTS, THERE'S THE QUESTION OF PRIORITIES.

IN HIS INAUGURAL ADDRESS THE PRESIDENT PROMISED TO EXPAND OPPORTUNITIES FOR

GAYS AND LESBIANS, IMMIGRANTS AND WOMEN.

"For our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers and daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts."

ON GAY RIGHTS, HE BACKS MARRIAGE EQUALITY AND PARTNER BENEFITS.

AND, ON DAY FIVE OF HIS SECOND TERM, HE ALREADY SPOKE TO A GAY RIGHTS GROUP.

"All must enjoy the same rights and the same protections."

HE ALSO MET WITH IMMIGRATION ADVOCATES, URGING QUICK ACTION.

WHEN IT COMES TO WOMEN, NOTHING SPECIFIC.

"I don't have a preview for you for future actions, but, again, his record is strong on this."

: "Women were 58 percent of the electorate that brought him into office, and you don't have a single policy agenda item you can point to that he promises to act on."

"The president's commitment to women and women's equality is incredibly strong."

THERE ARE BILLS HE COULD PRESS CONGRESS TO PASS NOW.

THE PAYCHECK FAIRNESS ACT-- WOULD MAKE IT EASIER TO FIGHT SALARY DISCRIMINATION WITHOUT LOSING ONE'S JOB.

A SECOND BILL WOULD REQUIRE PAID SICK DAYS AND FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE, WHICH WOULD BENEFIT WORKING WOMEN. Return to index of stories...

BIZ WEEK REVIEW-PKG

IT WAS A SHORT BUT IMPORTANT WEEK ON WALL STREET AS THE DOW AND THE BROADER S-&-P 500 REACHED FIVE-YEAR HIGHS AND ARE NOW APPROACHING ALL-TIME CLOSING HIGHS. THE MARKETS GOT HELP FROM STRONG FOURTH-QUARTER EARNINGS FROM BIG COMPANIES LIKE GOOGLE, I-B-M, MICROSOFT, THREE-M, STARBUCKS AND MORE.

BUT THE EARNINGS NEWS WASN'T ALL GOOD. SHARES OF APPLE TUMBLED THIS WEEK, AFTER DISAPPOINTING INVESTORS LAST QUARTER WITH SLOWING SALES GROWTH OF THE iPHONE. SHARES FELL SO MUCH THAT BY FRIDAY, EXXON MOBIL ONCE AGAIN SURPASSED APPLE AS THE WORLD'S MOST VALUABLE COMPANY.

THE RECOVERY IN HOUSING SAW A BIT OF A SET BACK LAST MONTH WITH SALES OF NEW HOMES AND EXISTING HOME DIPPING LOWER. BUT FOR ALL OF 2012, HOME RESALES ROSE NINE PERCENT AND SALES OF NEWLY BUILT HOMES SHOT UP TWENTY PERCENT OVER THE YEAR PRIOR.

MORE GOOD NEWS IN THE JOB MARKET. FIRST TIME JOBLESS CLAIMS FELL BY FIVE THOUSAND LAST WEEK, FALLING TO A FRESH FIVE YEAR LOW. MEANTIME LOWES, THE HOME IMPROVEMENT CHAIN, PLANS TO HIRE 45-THOUSAND TEMPORARY WORKERS AHEAD OF THE BUSY SPRING CLEAN UP AND HOME REPAIR SEASON.

AND A NEW REPORT SHOWS THAT UNION MEMBERSHIP PLUMMETED LAST YEAR TO THE LOWEST LEVELS SINCE THE 1930s, TO JUST OVER ELEVEN PERCENT OF THE U.S. WORKFORCE. THAT'S AFTER CASH-STRAPPED STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS STARTED LAYING OFF A TON OF WORKERS.

IT IS BEING CALLED A 'SUPERBUG'

WE NOW KNOW THIS *NEW* STRAIN OF NOROVIRUS, WHICH MAKES PEOPLE VIOLENTLY ILL

FIRST IDENTIFIED IN AUSTRALIAIT IS NOW RIPPING ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

IN AN AVERAGE YEAR, ABOUT 21 MILLION AMERICANS GET NOROVIRUS - WITH THOSE

CLASSIC STOMACH FLU SYMPTOMS800 WILL DIE. IT COMES ON VERY SUDDENLY -

WITHIN HOURS OF BEING EXPOSED.

AND *TODAY*SINCE NO ONE HAS IMMUNITY TO THIS NEW STRAINMANY MORE OF US*

PERHAPS 50% MORE*COULD FALL ILL

IT'S LIKE A FERRARI- FAST MOVING AND WELL DESIGNED.

COMPARE IT TO THE FLU.

FLU IS SPREAD MOSTLY IN THE AIR - BY COUGHS AND SNEEZES. YOU NEED TO BREATH

IN AS MANY AS 1000 VIRUS PARTICLES TO GET SICK.

NOROVIRUS? JUST 18 PARTICLES WILL DO IT - EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS.

BESSER STANDUP TRACK - THAT MEANS IF I'M RIDING ON AN ESCALATOR AND PUT MY

HAND HERE - AND SOMEONE WITH NOROVIRUS PUT THEIR HAND HERE - 2 WEEKS AGO --

I'VE JUST PICKED IT UP.

THAT'S RIGHT, ON HARD SURFACES - REVOLVING DOORS, DOOR HANDLES , COFFEE

MAKERS, REGULAR FLU VIRUS CAN LAST 2 TO 8 HOURS - BUT NOROVIRUS COULD BE

THERE, AND INFECTIOUS, FOR WEEKS.

CLEANING YOUR HOME - REGULAR DETERGENTS DON'T WORK. YOU HAVE TO USE BLEACH.

YOU NEED TO GET NOROVIRUS OFF YOUR HANDS BEFORE IT GETS TO YOUR STOMACH --

GOOD OLD SOAP AND WATER, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

CATHOLICS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO TAKE IN HIS BLOOD-- FROM THE SAME CUP.

"There is a protocol that has to go with the receiving of the precious blood from the chalice."

"what happens is the eucharistic minister actually has a cloth with them called a purificator, and so once the person receives from the cup, the cup is actually wipe with the purificator and the cup is turned, physically, for the next person to receive."

BUT SOMETIMES THAT PURIFICATOR ISN'T PURE ENOUGH-- TO KILL CONTAGIOUS VIRUSES LIKE THE FLU.

"influenza is transmitted primarily, it could be airborne, but through droplets of the virus in saliva or secretions to other people so you can catch it in many ways."

FATHER MATT SAYS "NATIVITY OF OUR LADY" HAS SUSPENDED THE SHARED COMMUNION CUP IN THE PAST, DURING MORE SEVERE FLU SEASONS.

BUT THIS YEAR. TRADITION REMAINS-- JUST WITH CAUTION.

"we want to make it as, as rich and as full in opportunity for people every single sunday, but we also want to keep people safe as well." Return to index of stories...
