THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We've got lots of variety in our weather coming this week for Southwest Florida.
For those that prefer the spring-like warmth and sunshine, these next two days are for you as afternoon temperatures get close to record territory through the next couple of days. If, however, you prefer the cooler, more seasonable weather, you won't have to wait long because the next cold front will arrive by Thursday morning.
First, let's cover the final stretch of our current warm spell. For today and Wednesday, a more southerly component to the wind will keeping bringing in the warmth and humidity, bringing temperatures well above average. Daytime highs should reach the mid 80s, and overnight lows will only cool into the mid 60s. Look for lots of sunshine mixed in with some patchy, fair-weather clouds and a strong southeasterly breeze from 10-15 mph with some higher gusts.
By Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, the next cold front will come sweeping through Southwest Florida, bringing some scattered showers during the pre-dawn hours Thursday. By mid to late morning Thursday, the showers will exit, and the cool air will start filtering in our winds pick up again but become more northerly.
Daytime temperatures Thursday will likely only warm into the low to mid 70s, and then the more noticeable chill will be felt Thursday night as lows dip into the 40s.
Friday will be another cool, sunny, and seasonable day with highs in the mid 70s and low humidity.
Temperatures will gradually begin to moderate by the weekend, but another passing weather system will replenish the cool air by Sunday, which should help slow the warm up as we head into early next week.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE FREE WI-FI, CLEAN RESTROOMS AND A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO HANG OUT?

WE'RE ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT - AN AIRPORT PARKING LOT.
NBC'S JANET SHAMLIAN REPORTS.
Return to index of stories...
It is a trend sweeping cell phone parking lots at airport across the country. No longer just a place to wait. It is now an amenity filled money-maker.
Picking someone up from the airport should probably qualify as an act of love simply because it's such a hassle.
ANNOUNCEMENT: "IF YOUR PARTY IS NOT READY FOR IMMEDIATE LOADING PLEASE USE THE CELLPHONE LOT."
There's no stopping at baggage claim for more than a minute or two. and circling the terminal can be maddening.
That's why cell phone lots are such a hit. free and close parking where drivers like Shirley Fisher wait.
NATSOT: -TICK TICK TICK TICK-
.until she gets the call, her sister has arrived.
SOT: "I'LL BE OVER AT BAGGAGE CLAIM, I'M GONNA DRIVE SLOW, YOU JUMP ON, OKAY." /pi
But what started as just a place to wait has, at some airports, turned into. dare we say -- a place to "be."
NATSOT: "ITS A NO BRAINER, YES, OF COURSE."
In Austin, you can even have dinner in the cell phone lot. everything from a spinach salad to beef fajitas, all under 7-bucks.
SOT: "ITS FANTASTIC, THIS IS A GREEN CHILI PORK TACO IT'S VERY WELL DONE."
In Tampa, it's the dude and his food -- and free wifi so multi-taskers like Lori Foley can work while she waits.
SOT:
"IT TAKES THE PRESSURE OFF OF, OH NO I'M GOING TO BE UP UNTIL MIDNIGHT DOING THIS."
Airports doing what they can to make customers happy.
STANDUP: "THEY'RE NOT STOPPING AT FOOD, RESTROOMS AND FREE WIFI. THERE'S MORE TO COME AND DOWN THE ROAD YOU'LL EVEN BE ABLE TO SHOP HERE AS WELL."
J: "WAIT, RETAIL IN THE CELL PHONE LOT. SO THIS IS JUST THE START? /pi
JIM: THIS IS THE START. YOU CAN PULL UP AND GET FLOWERS. PICK UP LOVE OFF THE CURBSIDE OF AIRPORT AND BOOM, YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY."
What else can they possibly come up with. there are bigger plans.
SOT:
"YOU MIGHT EVENTUALLY SEE A GAS STATION OUT THERE, A CONVENIENCE STORE, A CAR CLEANING FACILITY. THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF OPTIONS THAT YOU CAN OFFER OUT AT CELLPHONE LOTS WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT."
Flight information boards make it easy to track arrivals and delays -- which everyone here dreads -- except for the food dude.
SOT:
"I LIKE WHEN IT SNOWS UP NORTH, I'M FROM UP NORTH AND WHEN IT SNOWS IT DELAYS THE FLIGHT AND THEY HAVE TO WAIT HERE AND IT MAKES MY LIFE A LITTLE BETTER."
What's next? Could be a mini-mart, a florist or a car wash right here. This is not unlike the airlines and their baggage fees. Airports trying to squeeze out every last dollar. Janet Shamlian, NBC News, Austin Texas.

WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT RIGHT NOW IS A NEW THREAT TO PEOPLE WALKING ON THE BEACH IN CALIFORNIA.
THEY'RE CALLED SNEAKER WAVES -- THEY STRIKE SUDDENLY -- AND THEY CAN OVERTAKE THE STRONGEST SWIMMER.
NEAL KARLINSKI REPORTS:
Return to index of stories...
SCRIPT:
It's no surprise they're called "sneaker waves."
One look at the ones that have been captured on camera and you can see how
suddenly they sweep in----knocking people hanging around otherwise peaceful
shorelines-off their feet.
It's exactly what happened to 32 year Susan Archer-swept away Sunday while
walking with her boyfriend, Sion Tallerico and their dog Trigger along this
northern California beach.
SOT: SION TALLERICO
"you have to be careful of big waves. We knew it. And it just happened"
Tallerico says it was the same walk they took every day-only this time-the
wave came.
SOT: SION TALLERICO
"Trigger had gone around the corner. I couldn't see them. And when she went
around the corner I couldn't see her either. And by the time I was getting
around the corner I saw her going out already."
This time of year, from northern California to the Washington coast, a
simple walk on the beach can be deadly for those not keeping a close eye on
the churning seas, which whip up these sneaker waves.
SNEAKER WAVES ARE SO DANGEROUS BECAUSE THEY ARRIVE ON THE COAST AS PART OF A
SMALLER WAVE TRAIN.AT FIRST GLANCE THE TRAIN LOOKS LIKE A SERIES OF
NORMAL WAVES.UNTIL A MUCH BIGGER AND STRONGER SNEAKER WAVE EMERGES.
CATCHING EVERYONE AROUND UNAWARE.
Bob Gibson survived one in Oregon, despite being slammed by a huge log.
"My thought was, this cannot be happening to me."
Since November in northern California, two more sneaker waves-one killing a
man on a walk with his wife-the other leaving a couple and their 16-year-old
son drowned.
SOT: CHERYL ANTONY - SHELTER COVE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT
"You never, never, never turn your back on the ocean. And you never want to
get really close to it"
But this morning, Tallerico says people need to know-during the winter a
walk on the beach can be anything but peaceful.
He'll never look at the ocean the same way again.

3. James Dale

4. Dr. Frank Page
Southern Baptist Convention
It would be a fundamental change for an organization that for decades has fought against allowing gays in.
. considering such a move to be a violation of the Scout Oath, requiring scouts to be morally straight.
If approved, the new policy would end the national ban on gay scouts and scout leaders.
. and let local troops decide for themselves.
In a statement, the Boy Scouts say members and parents would be able to choose a local unit which best meets the needs of their families.
That's welcome news to Zach Wahls, an Eagle Scout from Iowa who told the Democratic National Convention last summer about being raised by two mothers:
"There's been such a groundswell of local leaders all over the nation who have been calling for an end to the ban, because they've seen how this policy is hurting their local level. This policy alienates young people." :12
The anti-gay policy has also prompted some big corporations, including UPS, to end financial support for scouting.
And some local Scout leaders have pushed for a non-discrimination policy:
"I think it kind of caught a lot of families off guard when the Boy Scouts of America came out and reaffirmed their ban on gay and lesbian individuals. And a lot of us feel strongly that that's not right."
James Dale sued the Boy Scouts when he was let go as a scout leader after he publicly said he's gay -- a case the Scouts won before the US Supreme Court.
He says the new policy -- which would still allow some troops to exclude gay members -- isn't enough:
"The Boy Scouts have to make sure that they're teaching America and they're in step with American values of equality and not discriminating."
But more than half the nation's local scouting organizations are sponsored by churches. The Southern Baptist Convention calls the potential policy change deeply disappointing:
"We want to be respectful of everyone. But we also want respect for us, respect for those who hold to what might be called a biblical form of morality."
