GOOD MORNING -- AND HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!

IF HE DOESN'T--THEN THAT COULD MEAN AN EARLY SPRING.

6:02 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

The first weekend of February will shape up to be a cool and seasonable one across Southwest Florida.

To Start off our Groundhog Day we had quite the chill back in the air this morning with temperatures dipping into the 40s, and as we go through our Saturday, temperatures will stay rather cool and seasonable; by noon temperatures will start to climb into the mid to upper 60s, and then we'll top out in the mid 70s for those daytime highs.

Look for clear skies and wall to wall sunshine today, which will set up another clear, cool night.

Humidity will stay incredibly low today and Sunday, and winds should relax quite a bit compared to the gusty weather we had yesterday. In fact, if you're planning a trip out in the boat this weekend, today will likely offer the best boating conditions as winds begin to subside this afternoon producing seas at 2 feet or less and inland waters at a light to moderate chop. The Gulf of Mexico is quite chilly, though, with the average water temperatures at 65°.

For Super Bowl Sunday, we'll have another cool start in the morning with temperatures dropping into the low 50s and upper 40s. Sunshine will dominate our sky once again, sending afternoon temperatures into the mid 70s. Winds will become more northerly Sunday coming in at 5-15 mph with some higher gusts.

Our quiet and cool weather pattern will continue into next week with more sunshine expected Monday and highs in the low to mid 70s. We'll even see our overnight temperatures get cooler once again as a fresh batch of cool air comes in from the north, lowering temperatures back into the mid to upper 40s both Monday and Tuesday morning.

By midweek, cloud cover will likely increase as a weather system crosses the state on Wednesday. Moisture will be lacking, however, so rain chances are looking pretty slim as the next weather system passes through.

For the second half of the upcoming week, temperatures will start to warm up once again as daytime highs get back to around 80 from Wednesday through Friday.

Aside from the extra cloud cover around Wednesday, we should be mostly sunny through the next several days with fairly pleasant weather expected across Southwest Florida through the first week of February.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

Chaos of police and ambulances in one of Ankara's most fortified districts. embassy row.

On one stretcher, a well known Turkish journalist. she'd come to have tea with the ambassador.

She was at a visitors gate - in a security screening room - when a suicide bomber came in and reached for his waist.

A guard yelled "bomb!". and then it exploded.

Turkish media identified the bomber who killed himself, and a Turkish guard.

"Right now we all all dealing with our sadness at the loss of a fellow member of our embassy. We salute his bravery."

The Turkish government says the bomber was a part of a leftist radical group that accuses Turkey of being 'a puppet' of American imperialism.

The group hates US influence. and that Turkey is part of NATO, which recently deployed Patriot missiles here.

This was NOT al-Qaeda. but Marxists, the government says, who just last September bombed a police station in Istanbul.

No matter who was responsible, US officials - perhaps gun-shy after Benghazi - were quick to call it terrorism.

"It's characterized by our embassy as a terrorist attack."

"A suicide bombing on the perimeter of an embassy is by definition an act of terror. It is a terrorist attack."

Tonight US diplomats are cautioning Americans to be vigilant in Turkey, considered one of the safest nations in the Middle East.

An embassy guard was killed but the suicide bomber never managed to get beyond the outer checkpoint.

The embassy building itself wasn't breached.

BUT NOT EVERYONE IS ON-BOARD WITH THE COMPROMISE --

JESSICA YELLIN EXPLAINS. Return to index of stories...

OBAMA BIRTH CONTROL-PKG

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS SAY PROPOSED NEW GUIDELINES WOULD ENSURE WOMEN GET CONTRACEPTION FOR FREE, AND NO OBJECTING RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT -- A SEEMINGLY PERFECT COMPROMISE.

"We had to ensure that women had access to preventive services like contraception and that the policy also respects religious beliefs "

THE POLICY WOULD ALLOW A SELF-INSURED RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION, LIKE A CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY, TO OPT OUT OF PROVIDING BIRTH CONTROL.

ANOTHER INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD GIVE EMPLOYEES BIRTH CONTROL FOR FREE.

"This just clarifies that there aren't going to be some women who get this benefit and some women who don't. All women in America, through their insurance coverage, are going to have access to birth control without a co-pay, no matter where they work or where they live."

NOT EVERYONE SEES THIS AS A WIN-WIN.

"It leaves an awful lot of the conscience and moral objection concerns and coverage. The private sector doesn't gain protections."

THE U.S. CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS IS RESERVING JUDGMENT WHILE IT STUDIES THE 80-PAGE GUIDELINES, BUT IN STATEMENTS, THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EVANGELICALS RIPPED THE POLICY AS ".BAD NEWS FOR ALL WHO LOVE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM," SAYING, "THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SHOULD HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING AND DROPPED THE CONTRACEPTION MANDATE."

.AND THE FAMILY VALUES ORGANIZATION, CONCERNED WOMEN FOR AMERICA, SLAMMED IT AS A "BLATANT ATTEMPT TO MISLEAD. ANDTRAMPLE THE RELIGIOUS LIBERTIES OF AMERICANS." Return to index of stories...

6:42 FIRST ALERT FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

STADIUM TECHNOLOGY-OC

IT'S SUPER BOWL WEEKEND!

AND CROWDS ARE GATHERING IN NEW ORLEANS, RIGHT NOW -- FOR ALL THE FESTIVITIES SURROUNDING THE BIG GAME.

BUT IN SAN FRANCISO -- THEY'RE NOT ONLY PREPARING FOR TOMORROW'S GAME -- THEY'RE BUILDING A STADIUM WITH THE HOPES OF HOSTING A SUPER BOWL OF THEIR OWN ONE DAY.

STADIUM TECHNOLOGY-PKG

S/ DAVE STEVENS / CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, BROCADE:21-:25

AS THE STADIUM OF THE FUTURE RATTLES.

THE TECHNOLOGY ON ITS WAY INTO THE STADIUM HUMS.

SILICON VALLEY NETWORKING VETERAN BROCADE, CHOSEN BY THE 49ERS TO WIRE THEIR NEW DIGS HAS THE TASK OF CREATING THE MOST TECH-SAVVY SPORTS FACILITY IN HISTORY.

"Because it will house all the technology Silicon Valley has to offer."

THAT'S BROCADE'S CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER DAVE STEVENS WHO SAYS THE GOAL IS TO MAKE THIS STADIUM AS TECH-FRIENDLY AS YOUR LIVING ROOM. ASSUMING YOUR LIVING ROOM CAN HANDLE 70,000 FOOTBALL FANS.

"So that means that you have to be able to support everybody's mobile devices. People have to be able to upload photos to Instagram, they have to be able to get onto Facebook, they have to run instant messaging. They have to be able to do all the things they can do at home. Their expectation is that they can do it inside the stadium."

NOTHING LIKE THAT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE. MOST STADIUMS JUST FRUSTRATE MOBILE USERS.

NOW, THE FORTY-NINERS WANT YOU TO GET AS STRONG A CONNECTION IN THE STANDS AS THE TEAM HAS DOWN ON THE FIELD. BUT IT WON'T BE EASY.

"When you think about taking this and going into a concrete bowl with 70,000 people accessing all of those services all at the same time, It's a very, very difficult environment."

IF BROCADE CAN PULL IT OFF, MAPS, STREAMING REPLAYS, AND VIRTUAL MENUS WILL BE AS COMMON AS RUNS, PASSES, AND TOUCHDOWNS. Return to index of stories...
