LEE COUNTY TRAFFIC ENGINEER STEVE JANSEN TELLS US -- THE PLANNED REPAVING PROJECT INCLUDES SPEED LIMIT REDUCTIONS AND THE CONTROVERSIAL LEFT HAND TURN CHANGE.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Across northern parts of Florida, we're tracking as weak disturbance that will bring more cloud cover and a few showers to areas mostly north of Orlando and the I-4 corridor, so the bulk of this weather system will not have much of an influence on our local weather. We will, however, continue to see the wind flow become more southerly, which means the warmth and moisture keeps building in as we go through the rest of the week.

By Wednesday, humidity will keep creeping up, and temperatures will follow suit as we see daytime highs breaking into the 80s. More clouds will also develop during the day, but sunshine will continue to be our main weather player.

Signs point to the warm and sunny pattern holding into the upcoming weekend and likely into next week, which means most days will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the low 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s. Return to index of stories...

GRAND CENTRAL PARK-PKG

Artist paul aresenault has painted pretty much every landmark spot in naples-- from the city docks, to our beautiful beaches--

Nats

But the old grand central station property downtown-- well you can see why it has never made it onto a canvas.

The 19 acre property at the corner of goodlette frank road and us41 has been sitting empty for years after failed plans for development.

Now-- Arsenault wants to make the land becomes as picturesque as one of his paintings.

Paul arsenault, naples artist

"16:40 the change that can bring back the enchanting to naples."

Arsenault wants to see the property transformed into a central park. He started a petition for the plan at his gallery that already has nearly 100 signatures.

Chase carrick, naples resident/signed the petition

"4:35 we do not need more cement, we do not need a convention center, we do not need developers in there trying to make money this is a beautiful town and we don't want to kill the golden goose 50"

Supporters are hoping donors will buy the estimated 25million dollar land-- and turn it into a green space.

Mayor john sorey says the plan is unrealistic. He says a park means no profit.

Mayor john sorey, city of naples: "27:07 it needs to be income producing so would love to have it as a park, the reality is that I'm just not sure it makes sense 16

"28:03 the question is who is gona raise the money to buy it and then secondly who is going to raise the money to maintain it 12"

A deal to sell the property is already in the works-- and the potential buyer has a different vision: a mixed commercial and residential complex-- possibly even a boutique hotel.

Sorey: 29:49 increase the tax base, provide a great addition to the community." Return to index of stories...

Whrn it comes to red tide, Fishing guide Dave Andrews gets just about every question you can think of.

1129 there's 2 stages when I know it's here and when everybody knows its here 1134

Like many boaters on pine island, he gets his information about where the harmful algal blooms are, first hand, on the water. But for many others, information about red tide comes when it causes hundreds of dead fish to wash ashore.

0935 in my business red tide sometimes conjures us images of thousands of dead fish when it might only be a sneeze or a cough 0943.

For the first time, the national weather service is including daily information about red tide from Sarasota to lee counties in its hazard statements, they same way the service would let you know about rip currents.

People can now listen to the alerts over radio broadcasts.

306 what this will do is push the information a little more sending it out to anyone that looks for a forecast 0315
