barely old enough to drive-
16 year-old kristian foster is an accused burglar, thief, arsonist and robber.
his most recent run-in with cops early this morning- could have been his last.
40:44 "he was here when i went to bed last night."
kristian foster-
lives less than a mile away from the most recent crime scene with his grandmother.
40:48 "i'm just devastated right now- i can't handle anymore of it."
the teen was shot at by lee county deputies outside of the wendy's on the corner of buckingham and palm beach blvd- after they say he wouldn't drop his gun.
sheriff sot ""
the violent hold-up happened at 1:30 this morning.
detectives say foster and an accomplice- both armed with guns, pistol-whipped a Wendy's employee who was outside cleaning up.
When a ride showed up for a worker, deputies say foster tried to car-jack the driver -- even fired some shots.
When deputies got there, they say foster ignored their order to drop his gun.
The deputy fired but missed.
When foster ran to the other side of the restaurant, they say, the deputy fired again.
At that point- they say Foster dropped the gun, which was stolen, and was arrested.
42:33 "do you know where he got the gun? no did you know that he had a gun. no"
near this same intersection-
deputies believe foster could be responsible for other robberies this week- besides the wendy's- they think he may have hit a dunkin donuts across the street and a domino's down the road.
and back in late 2011-
we covered foster's arrest for allegedly setting a pastor's truck and church on fire- that happened right around the corner from this morning's crime.

In his 21 years of living here- he only remembers one other brush fire.
Now- he's dealing with 5 nearby in 1 day.
Sot bill
I'm figuring it had to be started by kids or somebody, because there wasn't any lightning or anything."
San Carlos fire protection and rescue investigators- agree.
Sot Alexis Rothring, San Carlos Fire and Rescue PIO
Right now we have fire investigators out, including our fire marshal trying to figure out what's going on."
Because of the time frame and size of the fires,
Investigators say one person could be responsible.
Sot Alexis
Simply the task of putting out a fire helps destroy some of that evidence so that absolutely makes it a lot harder."
As does the dry and windy weather.
Sot Alexis
One small fire can turn into a little bit bigger fire and you're going to get hot spots following throughout the day."
While investigators make their rounds- these signs fill people in.
Sot aneida fredrickson, San Carlos park resident

Making this the last of their fire worries.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
SMALL CHANCE OF RAIN FRIDAY
This month sure hasn't felt like February! Temperatures have been in the 80s, sunny skies during the day, and no rain.
That is all going to change within the next 24 hours, but just slightly. No colossal changes expected. It's all due to a low pressure pushing across South Georgia. That low is swinging a cold front in our direction for Friday which will usher in these changes.
Changes start to occur tonight as low temperatures won't be quite as cool. They'll settle into the middle 60s as the clouds begin to increase.
The storm system moving across the northern gulf states will eventually send a weak cool front our way as I mentioned earlier. This front will approach the area on Friday morning with an increase in cloud cover, and a small threat for just a few isolated showers. Once the front clears the peninsula during the day, skies will clear and this will set the stage for a pleasant weekend across Southwest Florida.
Drier air mass will make its way down the state behind the front. That'll cool our overnight lows into the middle and upper 50s by Sunday morning. It won't have much of an impact on our afternoon temperatures as they will continue to warm into the lower 80s with plenty of sunshine.

THESE ARE THE TWO LITTLE GIRLS AND THEIR MOTHER WHO DIED AFTER A CRASH ALONG ALLIGATOR ALLEY A FEW WEEKS AGO.
CECILIA DOUGLAS' CAR CLIPPED THE BACK OF A TRUCK, SWERVED, AND PLUNGED INTO A CANAL.
Return to index of stories...
TROOPERS BELIEVE THE DEPTH OF THE WATER - AND THE TINTED WINDOWS ON THE CAR MADE IT HARDER FOR THEM TO RESCUE THE FAMILY.
BECAUSE THE WINDOW PUNCH THEY CARRY WOULD NOT BREAK THE CAR'S GLASS.
THAT MADE US WONDER ABOUT THE TOOLS LIKE THIS. THAT SOME PEOPLE CARRY IN THEIR CARS--.
HOW WOULD THEY WORK ON TINTED WINDOWS.
NBC2 INVESTIGATOR GABY FLEISHMAN TEAMED UP WITH THE GOLDEN GATE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO FIND OUT. AND LEARNED A SIMPLE PHRASE - THAT COULD SAFE YOUR LIFE.
Return to index of stories...
"breaking glass"
LOOKS LIKE AN EASY BREAK--
"breaking glass"
BUT WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS, SMASHING A CAR WINDOW BECOMES HARDER THAN IT SEEMS.
"Having your hand just smashing the window isn't going to break the window."
ON THE MORNING OF JANUARY 21ST--
AN ACCIDENT ON ALLIGATOR ALLEY TOOK THE LIVES OF 33 YEAR OLD CECILIA DOUGLAS AND HER TWO DAUGHTERS 4 YEAR OLD ADISON AND THREE YEAR OLD RYLEE.
"The car was completely submerged laying on the roof on the bottom of the canal."
THE FIRST FHP OFFICER ON SCENE JUMPED INTO THE WATER WITH THIS-- A ZAK TOOL/WINDOW PUNCH MEANT TO SHATTER GLASS.
IT DIDN'T WORK.
2:57 water pressure may have played a role in the device not being able to break the window 3:04 other than that's its hard to say, there's tint on the window that may have played a role in keeping the window itself intact
AND THAT MADE US WONDER - HOW MUCH HARDER IS IT TO PUNCH OUT A TINTED WINDOW THAN A REGULAR WINDOW.
WITH THE HELP OF THE GOLDEN GATE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND MORLEY'S TOWING --
WE DECIDED TO FIND OUT.
WE TOOK THREE TOOLS --
SMASHING
THE LIFE HAMMER WHICH RELIES ON YOUR OWN STRENGTH TO SMASH THE GLASS.
AND TWO SPRING LOADED TOOLS - THE ZAK TOOL AND ONE CALLED RES-Q-ME - THAT PROVIDE THEIR OWN FORCE.
this one takes a little more effort because you have to use two hands other than that they have the same end result."
ALL THREE WORKED INSTANTLY ON WINDOWS WITH NO TINT - AND FACTORY TINT.
A QUICK HIT IN THE CORNER - NOT THE CENTER - OF A SIDE WINDOW AND THE GLASS SHATTERED TO PEICES.
BUT WHEN WE TESTED THE TOOLS ON TINTED WINDOWS WITH LAMINATE --
IT WASNT AS EASY.
RESQ ME TOOLS CLICKS FEW TIMES, THEN BREAKS, FIREFIGHTER HAS TO PUNCH WINDOW OUT.
"12:08 the tint takes a little bit of extra effort, it's not going to fall right out."
THE FILM ON TINTED WINDOWS HOLDS THE GLASS TOGETHER--
YOU HAVE TO PUNCH THROUGH THE WINDOW OR PUSH IT OUT--
29:35 there's always going to be obstacle and there's no way to prepare for everything 29:05 but at least having something you can shatter the glass with gives you a better chance to get out of the vehicle 10
IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN AN EMERGENCY THE FIRST THING YOU HAVE TO TO IS STAY CALM SO YOU CAN THINK CLEARLY.
THEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM P-O-GO.
POP YOUR SEATBELT - IF IT'S STUCK USE THE SEATBELT CUTTER.
OPEN, IF YOUR DOOR WONT OPEN, ROLL DOWN YOUR WINDOW - IF IT'S JAMMED BREAK IT LIKE WE SHOWED YOU.
FINALLY - GO - GET OUT FAST.
FIRST RESPONDERS SAY DON'T WASTE TIME CALLING 911.
SAVE YOURSELF, THEN CALL FOR HELP ONCE YOURE OUT.
"Anything to give you an upper hand to rescue yourself because it is going to be minutes before someone gets there."

ANOTHER THING I LEARNED WHILE PUTTING THIS STORY TOGETHER IS THE BEST WAY TO CUT YOUR SEATBELT IF IT DOESN'T UNBUCKLE.
NORMALLY SOMEONES FIRST INSTINCT IS TO CUT STRAIGHT ACROSS -- BUT MAKES IT HARDER BECAUSE THE FABRIC OF THE SEATBELT BUNCHES UP.
IF YOU CUT AT AN ANGLE-- THE BLADE WILL CUT STRAIGHT THROUGH.
