AFTER MONTHS IN THE HOSPITAL, 80-YEAR-OLD DELORIS SURGEON IS HAPPY TO BE BACK HOME.

"I could be better, but I feel good." Deloris Surgeon, Victim

WHILE SHE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL LATE LAST YEAR, HER FAMILY NOTICED SOMETHING STRANGE.

"we found the receipts and saw there were lots of charges on my grandmother's card." Dawn Croy, Victim's Granddaughter.

DAWN CROY - SURGEON'S GRANDDAUGHTER - WAS ALWAYS A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS OF HER GRANDMOTHER'S CARETAKER.

TERESA SHELTON KNEW THE FAMILY THROUGH CHURCH AND MOVED IN LAST OCTOBER TO HELP AROUND THE HOUSE.

"she had a lot of my granmother's credit cards and she was probably going on a shopping spree." Dawn Croy, Victim's Granddaughter.

CROY FOUND OUT SHELTON HAD WRITTEN HERSELF CHECKS FROM SURGEON'S BANK ACCOUNT AND WAS USING HER CREDIT CARDS RACKING UP MORE THAN 10-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CHARGES MOSTLY WHILE SURGEON WAS IN THE HOSPITAL.

"She took advantage of it and took advantage of my grandmother's trust. That's what's most upsetting." Dawn Croy, Victim's Granddaughter.

THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOUND SHELTON ON SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE MAKING SEVERAL TRANSACTIONS WITH THE VICTIM'S CREDIT CARD.

"unfortunately, there are some people who prey on the elderly." Lt. Jim Kirdy, PGPD

LIEUTENANT JIM KIRDY SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT DOESN'T SEE THIS TYPE OF CRIME OFTEN.

ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ELDER AFFAIRS, 16 PERCENT OF ELDER ABUSE CASES IN FLORIDA LAST YEAR INVOLVED SIMILAR EXPLOITATION.

CROY ALSO THINKS SHELTON WAS STEALING HER GRANDMOTHER'S PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AND REPLACING THEM WITH OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINE WHICH MAY HAVE LED TO SURGEON'S RECENT HEALTH ISSUES.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

NICE WEEKEND EXPECTED

A weak cold front pushed through the area on Friday. It brought with it a few showers and clouds the first half of the day, and what's moving in behind it? Well, not much of a change in our weather.

It'll continue to be sunny and warm during the afternoons, however, our mornings will be slightly cooler.

You'll notice that change early Saturday morning as lows bottom out in the upper 50s here in town with lower to middle 50s across our inland and northern cool spots.

High pressure will be building in for the weekend and this will set the stage for a beautiful Saturday under mostly sunny skies. Even though temperatures will recover into the 80s, our afternoons will feel quite pleasant with comfortable humidity values.

Our mainly dry weather pattern will stay firmly in place through the first half of the week with plenty of sunshine and highs in the lower to middle 80s.

By Wednesday, we'll be tracking another cold front moving across the "Sunshine State" with the potential for another round of rain and a cool down by the end of next week.

Overall the next 7 days look fabulous! Return to index of stories...
