FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Some rainier days are ahead for Southwest Florida as a cold front edges our way tonight and sticks around for a couple more days.

The good news for those with outdoor plans today is the daytime hours will be mainly rain free, and it won't really be until after sunset when we start seeing some scattered showers move in from the northwest.

We'll get our Wednesday started with some areas of low visibility this morning, but partly sunny skies will take over once the fog lifts away, leading to another very warm day with highs in the low to mid 80s.

Winds will continue to be a factor in our forecast as the breeze picks up through the day, gusting as high as 20-25 mph out of the south. With the southerly wind still in place, humidity will be noticeably higher through the day as well.

Once the clouds and showers start moving in tonight, we've got them in our forecast through Friday. The front will actually stall and stay right over Southwest Florida, leading to cloudy skies and periods of rain both Thursday and Friday. With the clouds and scattered rain around those two days, daytime temps will struggle to climb out of the 70s during the afternoons.

Signs point to the showers and front making an exit by late Friday into early Saturday, and then some rather cold air will follow behind it. We'll start to notice the cool down by Saturday afternoon and evening, and then by Sunday morning we'll likely be tracking temperatures as low as the 30s and 40s! Sunday looks to be a very chilly day as well with highs only reaching the low to mid 60s despite full sunshine.

After morning lows cool back into the 30s and 40s Monday morning, we'll start to warm up pretty quickly back into the mid 70s by Monday afternoon and then back to 80° by Tuesday. Return to index of stories...

STATE OF UNION-PKG

We can say with renewed confidence that the state of our union is stronger.

IN THE FIRST STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS OF HIS SECOND TERM, PRESIDENT OBAMA UNVEILED A SLATE OF NEW PROPOSALS AIMED AT IMPROVING THE LIVES OF THE MIDDLE CLASS --

TAKING ON EVERYTHING FROM UNIVERSAL PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION TO REPAIRING THE NATION'S AGING INFRASTRUCTURE TO ADDRESSING THE THREAT OF CLIMATE CHANGE.

HE URGED CONGRESS TO PUT PARTISAN DIFFERENCES ASIDE ON THE ISSUE OF IMMIGRATION AND TO STAY FOCUSED ON A PLAN TO JUMP-START THE NATION'S LETHARGIC ECONOMY.

The American people have worked too hard, for too long, rebuilding from one crisis to see their elected officials cause another.

RENEWING AN UNFULFILLED PROMISE FROM HIS FIRST PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN, OBAMA ASKED CONGRESS TO INCREASE THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE TO $9.00 AN HOUR

Let's declare that in the wealthiest nation on Earth, no one who works full-time should have to live in poverty.

Let's tie the minimum wage to the cost of living, so that it finally becomes a wage you can live on.

IN THE MOMENT OF THE NIGHT, THE PRESIDENT CALLED ON CONGRESS TO VOTE FOR TOUGHER GUN LEGISLATION, STEPPED-UP BACKGROUND CHECKS AND AN ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN.

Gabby Giffords deserves a vote.

The families of Newtown deserve a vote.

The families of Aurora deserve a vote.

ON NATIONAL-SECURITY, THE PRESIDENT WARNED OF THE THREATS POSED BY ENEMY HACKERS, ANNOUNCING NEW MEASURES TO INCREASE INFORMATION SHARING.

AND ADDING LONG-SOUGHT DETAILS ON THE PACE OF THE DRAWDOWN IN AFGHANISTAN, HE ANNOUNCED PLANS TO BRING HOME NEARLY HALF THE TROOPS SERVING THERE BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR.

Another 34,000 American troops will come home from Afghanistan. This drawdown will continue. And by the end of next year, our war in Afghanistan will be over.

HOW WILL ALL THIS BE PAID FOR? THE PRESIDENT VOWED:

Nothing I'm proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime.

BUT THE DOLLARS AND CENTS WONT BE RELEASED UNTIL PRESIDENT OBAMA UNVEILS HIS BUDGET NEXT MONTH.

FT HOOD VICTIMS-PKG

At the State of the Union three years ago, President Obama arranged a hero's

welcome for Fort Hood police sergeant Kimberly Munley who now says felt she

was used.

Kimberly Munley: Betrayal would be a good word

Just a few months earlier, Munley had been shot three times as she and her

partner ended the deadly rampage against soldiers being processed for

deployment, the chaotic aftermath seen here for the first time in a new

video obtained by ABC News.

Authorities say the accused shooter, Major Nidal Hassan, identified by

victims as the man in this photo, had communicated with an al Qaeda leader,

had wanted to kill even more.

Kimberly Munley: He had over 177 rounds still left on his person.

Munley, who has since been laid off, says the President broke the promised

he made that he would make sure the Fort Hood shooting victims were taken

care of.

Kimberly Munley: Not to the least little bit have the victims been taken

care of. In fact, they've been neglected very badly.

Brian Ross: So the President's promise was not fulfilled?

Kimberly Munley: No.

What has so upset Munley and the other victims, and led them to file a

lawsuit, is the decision to deny the injured soldiers a Purple Heart,

terming the Fort Hood shooting simply "workplace violence."

Victims including recently retired staff sergeant Shawn Manning, who still

has bullets lodged in his body, say that means lower priority veterans

medical care and a loss of tens of thousands of dollars in benefits.

Sean Manning: I mean basically they're treating us like I was downtown and

I got hit by a car.

The Army says it's not true the victims are being neglected and Secretary of

the Army, John McHugh, told ABC News the Purple Heart can only be awarded

if the attack involves a foreign terrorist element.

Sec. Army John McHugh: So to declare that soldier a foreign terrorist, we

are told/would have a profound effect on the ability to conduct a trial.

Brian Ross: Are you satisfied with that?

Sec. Army John McHugh: I think I've answered your questions repeatedly.

Republican members of congress now say they will introduce legislation to

require to give the victims the benefits they say they are being denied Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL
