SHOWERS ON THE WAY
Most of the evening down here in southwest Florida will be fine - humid and breezy - but fine. Rain is off to the north and approaching the Tampa area tonight. By midnight we should start to see some showers breaking out here. A cold front is inching down the peninsula and it looks like the front will stall over/near south Florida through Friday. This means that we will carry a chance for showers in our forecast for the next two days. It does NOT mean that we will be rained-out for two days, but you should plan on passing showers both Thursday and Friday.

CHURCH MEMBERS AT ST. CECILIA'S IN FORT MYERS SAY THE SUDDEN RESIGNATION OF THE POPE CAME AS A SHOCK, BUT THEY RESPECT HIS DECISION.
00.06.36 Seems like all the other popes were in too long and he knows his limitations and we got to give him respect for that and we wish him well of course.
THE FORTY DAYS OF PENANCE IS A TIME FOR CATHOLICS TO REFLECT AND PRAY.
00.03.26 so as catholics it falls right into, we're going to pray for the pope, pray for the college of cardinals, we're going to pray for good things to come.
THE VATICAN ANNOUNCED TODAY AS EARLY AS MARCH 15TH, THE CONCLAVE WILL DECIDE ON A SUCCESSOR.
EVEN THOUGH THE POPE WILL RESIGN AT THE END OF THE MONTH, CHURCH GOERS HAVE CONFIDENCE THE SUCCESSOR WILL BE ANNOUNCED BEFORE THE END OF LENT.
00.01.45 Color, race, has no bearing. they'll choose wisely i'm sure.
00.04.38 I think we'll be fine but it will be kind of exciting to see who we have in store.
POPE BENEDICT CANNOT VOTE ON HIS SUCCESSOR.
BUT CATHOLICS BELIEVE HIS WRITINGS AND TEACHINGS WILL CONTINUE ON.
00.09.28 It's not going to make any difference, they're going to follow the same policies of the Catholic Church.

TUG BOATS - PULING THE 900-FOOT, 100-THOUSAND-TON SHIP TO SHORE AFTER AN ENGINE ROOM FIRE SUNDAY STRANDED MORE THAN 4-THOUSAND PEOPLE ON-BOARD. INCLUDING TESS HESTER'S DAUGHTER WHO SENT A DESPERATE TEXT FROM THE SHIP.
"This is honestly the worst experience ever. i'm not sure i can take two more days at sea with no food, power or water."
FOOD WAS DELIVERED FROM ANOTHER CARNIVAL SHIP YESTERDAY. BUT THERE'S STILL NOT ENOUGH. THERE'S NO AIR CONDITIONING, LITTLE RUNNING WATER. AND LESS THAN 2 DOZEN WORKING TOILETS.
DONNA GUTZMAN TALKED ABOUT THAT PROBLEM DURING A PHONE CALL FROM HER CABIN ON-BOARD.
"The worst part is the bathrooms, there's no water. you can't really flush so everyone's going in little plastic baggies and putting it outside their rooms.
PASSENGERS SAY THE STINCH IS INESCAPABLE AND OVERWHELMING.
sot / Gerry Cahill - President and Ceo, Carnival Cruise Lines:54 - 1:00
"We are obviously very, very sorry about what is taking place. There is no question that conditions on board the ship are very challenging."
SHEILA AND JERRY COX DESCRIBED THAT CHALLENGE DURING A PHONE CALL TO THEIR DAUGHTER.
"there's people sleeping in the hallways on mattresses. they're sleeping on the deck. on lounge chairs and the boat is just rocking back and forth because there's no stabilization."
AND THERE ARE NEW QUESTIONS NOW ABOUT WHETHER TRIUMPH SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT SEA.
THE SHIP WAS DELAYED BEFORE A CRUISE IN LATE JANUARY BECAUSE OF A PROPULSION PROBLEM - BUT CARNIVAL SAYS THAT ISSUE IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE FIRE THAT SHUTDOWN ENGINES DURING THIS TROUBLED VOYAGE.
ONE THAT WILL HOPEFULLY COME TO AN END TOMORROW AFTERNOON.
WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS TRIUMPH SHOULD DOCK AROUND 4 TOMORROW AFTERNOON. MEDICAL PERSONNEL FROM THE CITY, WILL BE ON-HAND FOR ANY PASSENGERS WHO MAY NEED CARE WHEN THEY COME OFF THE SHIP.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"Rain chances on the rise"
After a string of days with temperatures in the lower to middle 80s, it looks like our streak of warm and dry weather will come to an end as a cold front approaches our area from the northwest. For much of the day, fog banks have lingered just off the coastline, while the majority of Southwest Florida enjoyed a nice mix of sun and clouds. Breezy winds ahead of this front have turned more out of the southwest gusting close to 25mph. This has ushered in quite a bit of humidity and has pushed our afternoon highs into the lower to middle 80s.
As we go through the evening hours, skies should remain partly cloudy before mostly cloudy skies build in late tonight with a broken line of showers moving down the peninsula. Temperatures by tomorrow morning will settle into the middle 60s, however that is still well above the norm for this time of year.
By Thursday morning, we'll wake up underneath the clouds with mainly dry weather as most of the rain will have pushed to our south. It's during the day that the front stalls to our south keeping the clouds and scattered rain in the forecast both Thursday and Friday. This doesn't look to be a washout by any means, however we will see periods of showers washing in across Southwest Florida. As a result, afternoon highs will warm only into the middle 70s.
Behind the front, some chilly air will filter down the state resulting in some colder nights and significantly cooler afternoons by the weekend. Forecast models are hinting at some of the cloud cover lingering around through the first half of Saturday with daytime highs in the lower 70s. There will be quite the chill in the air by Sunday morning as overnight lows bottom out in the lower 40s here in town with readings in the middle 30s deeper inland. Despite plenty of sunshine by Sunday, temperatures will struggle to get out of the 60s.
We'll plan on another chilly start for Monday with lows in the 40s, before another warming trend gets under way by the middle part of the work week.
