FIRST WEATHER-OMNI ANIBOX

SHOWERS ON THE WAY

Most of the evening down here in southwest Florida will be fine - humid and breezy - but fine. Rain is off to the north and approaching the Tampa area tonight. By midnight we should start to see some showers breaking out here. A cold front is inching down the peninsula and it looks like the front will stall over/near south Florida through Friday. This means that we will carry a chance for showers in our forecast for the next two days. It does NOT mean that we will be rained-out for two days, but you should plan on passing showers both Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will drop into the 60's tonight and it will be breezy and very humid. Tomorrow afternoon, thanks to the increased clouds and showers, our highs will only hit the mid and upper 70's. Looks like the 80 degree temps will be gone for a while.

The weekend outlook is looking good and we will start to see more sunshine returning on Saturday and Sunday. Afternoon highs on Saturday will be in the lower 70's and noticeably cooler on Sunday. In fact, Sunday morning and Monday morning will likely be in the 40's! The chilly weather will only last for a few days and we will warm up again next week.

If you are planning outdoor activities this weekend I would advise a sweater or jacket in the evenings. The computer models keep things dry, but one scenario does include a few widely scattered showers on Saturday evening. All-in-all it's a good weekend outlook - just cooler. TWO DISTRICTS - WITH ONE COMMON GOAL - KEEP THE PUBLIC SAFE.

BUT TONIGHT, IT'S ABOUT MORE THAN FIGHTING FIRES FOR EAST NAPLES AND GOLDEN GATE CREWS - INSTEAD, ALL EYES ARE ON A CONSOLIDATION.

Chief Schuldt/East Naples Fire/17:04:15 "It's been an issue of topic in Collier County for many, many years."

THE PLAN WOULD PUT BOTH DEPARTMENTS UNDER ONE ROOF - SOMETHING THE EAST NAPLES DISTRICT'S BEEN PUSHING TOWARD FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

Chief Schuldt/17:06:08 "By consolidating organizations, there are potential salary savings from upper administrative positions."

ON TUESDAY NIGHT - EAST NAPLES TOOK CARE OF IT'S PART OF THE AGREEMENT - SIGNING OFF ON A LETTER OF INTENT THAT APPROVES A MERGER.

Chief Schuldt/17:05:04 "We've done everything on our end to get to this point, in anticipation for Golden Gate to consider this tonight."

CONSIDERING THE IDEA AT IT'S MEETING - WHERE GOLDEN GATE COMMISSIONERS WILL GET A FIRST LOOK AT THE LETTER.

Kevin Gerrity/Golden Gate Fire Commissioner/17:12:10 "I think ever - I think this is the closest we've been ever."

JOINING FORCES WOULD HELP BOTH DEPARTMENTS TO WORK MORE EFFICIENTLY- SHARING BUILDINGS AND EQUIPMENT.

Kevin Gerrity/7:11:51 "Rather than have them go out and purchase their stuff on their own - why not just use ours?"

A MERGER WOULD ALSO HELP WITH MILAGE RATES - POTENTIALLY SAVING TAXPAYERS MONEY.

Chief Schuldt/17:06:38 "We estimate upward of a couple hundred thousand dollars for each organization initially."

Kevin Gerrity/17:13:57 "Nobody wants to see their taxes go up and I don't think there's any reason for them to go up."

Rick Ritter/News at 5:00/17:19:22/The Golden Gate Fire District will hold it's meeting at 5:30 tonight, here at its headquarters. nats Rubio Speech

THE 41-YEAR FRESHMAN SENATOR STUCK TO THE PARTY PLATFORM.

THE WASHINGTON POST CALLING IT A 'BACK TO BASICS' SPEECH.

Wolf Blitzer: "A different vision on a whole host of domestic issues."

RUBIO RECITED REPUBLICAN ARGUMENTS AGAINST MORE GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND HIGHER TAXES.

"that's why I hope the President will abandon his obsession with raising taxes and work with us."

THE LATINO-AMERICAN RUBIO IS VIEWED AS A PRIME-TIME PLAYER ON IMMIGRATION REFORM. A PRIORITY FOR THE PARTY AFTER LOSING SEVEN IN 10 HISPANIC VOTES IN THE LAST ELECTION.

"they gave it to Marco Rubio to lead the charge and get this done."

EVEN THOUGH HE'S AGREED TO A BI-PARTISAN PLAN CALLING FOR A PATHWAY TO CITIZENSHIP FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS - HE LEFT OUT DETAILS LAST NIGHT.

George Stephanopolis: "Do you still share that goal?"

Marco Rubio: "Well, the speech wasn't just going to be about immigration. I'm part of that work-group and we laid out our principles and I remain committed to those principles."

"Marco Rubio is a known entity inside the beltway, he's known in Florida. and I think his State of the Union reply is giving him a national stage."

THAT NATIONAL STAGE HAS A BROAD REACH THIS WEEK. TIME MAGAZINE CALLING HIM 'THE REPUBLICAN SAVIOR.' A POLISHED PICTURE THAT MADE THIS THIRST QUENCHER ALL THE MORE JARRING.
