One more day of unsettled weather"
After a soggy Thursday with more than an 1.50" in the rain gauge, we have one more day of unsettled weather until conditions improve by the weekend along with a significant cool down.
A trail of moisture streaming in from the Gulf of Mexico will continue to interact with a stalled front sitting in the vicinity of Southwest Florida. This will keep mostly cloudy skies in the forecast along with a few downpours from time to time. Through the afternoon we may see one or two breaks in the clouds to get our daytime highs back in the lower half the 70s.
Mostly cloudy skies will stick around through the evening hours with a few lingering showers across the area. Overnight lows will be a touch cooler as they settle into the upper 50s.
By Saturday we'll start to see some clearing during the morning hours, however a few clouds could stir up during the afternoon as another cold front slides its way down the state. This looks to be a mainly dry frontal passage, however we could manage to squeeze out a sprinkle or two. This front will deliver a chill to the air by the time Sunday morning rolls around with lows plummeting into the lower 40s here in town.
As high pressure builds in for the second half of the weekend we're in store for a dry and sunny day along with low humidity. Despite sunny skies, our afternoon will be quite cool as temperatures struggle to make it out of the 60s.
After a couple of mornings in the 40s and highs in the 60s, a nice warming trend will continue through the middle part of the week with afternoon highs near 80° by Wednesday.

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PICK FOR SECRETARY OF STATE ISN'T GETTING A SMOOTH TRIP THROUGH THE NOMINATION PROCESS. IM CLAY MILLER
LAWMAKERS SIDELINED THE CONFIRMATION OF CHUCK HAGEL.
DANA BASH SHOWS US WHAT'S NEXT IN THE PROCESS.
Return to index of stories...
"The yays are 58 the nays are 40."
IT WAS A MOMENT FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS.
"The motion is not agreed to."
CHUCK HAGEL FELL SHORT OF THE 60 VOTES NEEDED TO BREAK A GOP FILIBUSTER OF HIS NOMINATION TO BE DEFENSE SECRETARY. ONLY FOUR REPUBLICANS SUPPORTED THEIR FORMER SENATE GOP COLLEAGUE.
The filibuster of Senator Hagel's confirmation is unprecedented. I repeat, not a single nominee for secretary of defense ever in the history of our country has been filibustered. Never, ever.
REPUBLICANS ARGUED THEY NEED MORE TIME, SAYING HAGEL IS TOO CONTROVERSIAL TO BE CONFIRMED ONLY DAYS AFTER GETTING THROUGH COMMITTEE ON A PARTY LINE VOTE.
"The president has a right to appoint people in whom he has confidence. But we have a constitutional responsibility to consider the nominee. A number of the Republican senators have questions.
BUT DEMOCRATS SEE IT ANOTHER WAY - THAT REPUBLICANS ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON HAGEL IN ORDER TO LOOK FOR MORE INFORMATION TO BRING HIM DOWN.
"Let's not hide behind a filibuster. Let's have the courage - vote yes or vote no. Don't hide behind parliamentary tricks."
THE WHITE HOUSE KNEW FROM DAY ONE HAGEL'S CONFIRMATION WOULD NOT BE EASY. CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENTS ON ISRAEL, JEWS AND GAYS, AS WELL AS HIS POSITIONS ON IRAN AND IRAQ PUT HIM IN THE CROSSHAIRS OF SENATORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE - BUT MOSTLY FELLOW REPUBLICANS.
AND A WIDELY PANNED PERFORMANCE AT HIS CONFIRMATION HEARING - EVEN BY DEMOCRATS - DIDN'T HELP.
"I misspoke and said I supported the president's position on containment."
BUT ONLY IN THE LAST 48 HOURS DID IT BECOME CLEAR THAT HAGEL DID NOT HAVE THE VOTES TO OVERCOME A FILIBUSTER THIS WEEK -
"Senators have the right to have those questions answered."
MOSTLY BECAUSE A HANDFUL OF GOP SENATORS WHO HAD SAID THEY WOULD NOT BLOCK HAGEL, INCLUDING JOHN MCCAIN, REVERSED THEMSELVES.DECIDING TO GO ALONG WITH THE MAJORITY OF REPUBLICANS DEMANDING NEXT WEEK'S SENATE RECESS TO STUDY THE NOMINATION AND ASK MORE QUESTIONS.
"I think that during the break that is sufficient time to get any additional questions answered and I will vote in favor of cloture on the day we get back and I believe my colleagues, enough of my colleagues will do the same."
"Another vote to try to stop the Hagel filibuster is already on the schedule -- a little less than two weeks from now when the senate returns from a break. A number of Republican senators who voted no now say they will vote yes then. If they stick to that, Hagel should be confirmed as the next defense secretary - after a very tough time here in the Senate from his former colleagues. Dana Bash, CNN, Capitol Hill."

even smashing one to smithereens on its way by. But if that's what you're
thinking all of that is still a long, long way from all of us way down here
walking the streets - you want to think again.
The last close call turned out to be a direct hit.
It was 1908 and luckily it hit the middle of nowhere, Siberiadecimating a
thousand miles of trees, but no people.
Prof. Scott Hubbard/Stanford University:
If a very large asteroid hit it would probably create the same kind of
disaster that wiped out the dinosaurs.
Amazingly, no one knew DA-14 was headed our way until a Spanish dentist and
amateur astronomer randomly discovered it a year ago.
NASA doesn't have the resources to look for asteroids.
Which is why a trio of American astronauts and rocket scientists are raising
money to launch their own asteroid early warning system called Sentinel-a
dedicated telescope scanning the stars for threats.
Dr.Ed.T.Lu/B612 Foundation:
"This asteroid is a wakeup call that we should be looking out there. Things
do HIT the earth"
Scientists say we can keep the planet safe-if we just know what's out there,
headed our way.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
