FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

One more day of unsettled weather"

After a soggy Thursday with more than an 1.50" in the rain gauge, we have one more day of unsettled weather until conditions improve by the weekend along with a significant cool down.

A trail of moisture streaming in from the Gulf of Mexico will continue to interact with a stalled front sitting in the vicinity of Southwest Florida. This will keep mostly cloudy skies in the forecast along with a few downpours from time to time. Through the afternoon we may see one or two breaks in the clouds to get our daytime highs back in the lower half the 70s.

Mostly cloudy skies will stick around through the evening hours with a few lingering showers across the area. Overnight lows will be a touch cooler as they settle into the upper 50s.

By Saturday we'll start to see some clearing during the morning hours, however a few clouds could stir up during the afternoon as another cold front slides its way down the state. This looks to be a mainly dry frontal passage, however we could manage to squeeze out a sprinkle or two. This front will deliver a chill to the air by the time Sunday morning rolls around with lows plummeting into the lower 40s here in town.

As high pressure builds in for the second half of the weekend we're in store for a dry and sunny day along with low humidity. Despite sunny skies, our afternoon will be quite cool as temperatures struggle to make it out of the 60s.

After a couple of mornings in the 40s and highs in the 60s, a nice warming trend will continue through the middle part of the week with afternoon highs near 80° by Wednesday. Return to index of stories...

REPUBLICANS BLOCKED A VOTE ON HAGEL. TODAY WE COULD SEE DEMOCRATS TRY TO GET HIM CONFIRMED WITH A SIMPLE MAJORITY.

OR PRESIDENT OBAMA COULD SIMPLY APPOINT HIM WHILE CONGRESS IS IN RECESS.

SAME FOR JOHN BRENNAN -- HIS NOMINATION AS C-I-A DIRECTOR IS ALSO STILL IN LIMBO.

SO ARE 85 BILLION IN AUTOMATIC BUDGET CUTS SET FOR MARCH FIRST. THEY'D AFFECT THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION JOBS, THE CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE SAYS.

S/ REP. JOHN BOEHNER / HOUSE SPEAKER

"I don't like it and no one should like it. But the sequester is there because the President insisted that it be there. Where's the president's plan to replace the sequester that he insisted on?"

S/ REP. NANCY PELOSI / MINORITY LEADER

"This -- it's just -- it's just wrong."

/

"Why are we leaving when we should be staying here to work this out?"

IF CONGRESS LEAVES TODAY AS SCHEDULED. THEY'LL COME BACK WITH JUST FOUR DAYS TO PREVENT THOSE CUTS FROM HAPPENING.

RIGHT NOW ON NBC-2 -- LAW ENFORCEMENT NEEDS YOUR HELP.

IT'S FUGITIVE FRIDAY.

JOINING US AS ALWAYS -- TRISH ROUTE FROM LEE COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS.

GOOD AFTERNOON, TRISH. Return to index of stories...

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-(5) SS

Starting off our list is a man who's earned the distinction of being profiled here on Fugitive Friday on a pretty regular basis - and each time, for a whole new set of criminal malfunctions. Derrick Calhoun, Jr. is wanted once again in Lee County on a felony warrant - issued two weeks ago - revoking his pretrial supervision after an arrest for drug possession. At the ripe young age of just 21, Calhoun has already racked up 12 previous arrests - and was even charged at one point for going into a rage and pointing a gun at his own mother. Born and raised in Fort Myers, Calhoun has a nasty history of drugs and weapons. And when you combine powerful narcotics like cocaine with gun-toting guys with bad tempers, the outcome is almost guaranteed to be a negative one. Calhoun is 6'2", 200 pounds and may be living in either Fort Myers or Cape Coral. Upon his arrest, he will be held without bond in the Lee County Jail.

Also on the run this week is Johnathan Hallman, a convicted felon who repeatedly gets caught illegally carrying weapons around town. This 27 year old Fort Myers native is a multi-time offender, with 10 previous bookings at the Lee County Jail. In addition to three separate arrests for the illegal possession of a firearm, Hallman has also been jailed for being a pot and cocaine dealer, several fraud and theft charges, the illegal use of credit cards and resisting arrest, among others. Hallman is believed to have some gang affiliations and may be laying low in the Lehigh Acres area. Hallman is a big guy - standing at 6'5", 240 pounds, and has numerous tattoos, including the words Florida Boy on his hands, a clown and a devil on his right arm, and the face of Jesus with the Chinese symbols for money and power on his left arm.

And in Collier County, Zacarias Herrera, Jr. is trying to dodge deputies on the heels of two warrants for violating terms of his state probation for robbery without a weapon and robbery by sudden snatching. This 21 year old fugitive has already become a familiar face to Collier deputies, with numerous previous arrests, including charges of resisting arrest and unarmed robbery. Herrera is most likely laying low in the Immokalee area, where he has a strong home base of family and friends, however he has been spotted in Lee County, near the Salvation Army in downtown Fort Myers. His only known employment is for the labor pool. Herrera is known on the streets simply as "Zack." He is 5'6", 138 pounds and has a tattoo of the phrase "I Town" on his wrist, and "ZACK" on his fingers.

And last but certainly not least is Yosdany Llanera, who stands accused of molesting a young girl under the age of 12. The victim said she was in her bed when Llanera came into her room in the middle of the night and molested her. When she told an adult the next morning, the girl's mother confronted 20 year old Llanera, who said he simply went into her room to ask if she had any candy. Upon further questioning, Llanera became loud and beligerant, and asked to talk to the young girl. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the house shortly thereafter and found probable cause to arrest Llanera for lewd and lascivious molestation. After spending two weeks in jail, Llanera bonded out for $25,000 - but now he's skipped out on that bond and is wanted for failing to show up in court to tell his side of the story. It's believed that Llanera is being harbored by family members - who have been less than cooperative with authorities over the last few weeks. Upon his arrest, he will be held without bond in the Lee County Jail. Return to index of stories...

Streaking across an early morning sky, a burst of light

.and an explosion of sound.

These unverified pictures appear to show a Russian city's close shave with a meteorite.

Locals heard. AND felt the shockwave of it passing.

On the ground, people stunned and unsure of what they had seen, were left staring at the meteorite's thick trail.

Many hurt by broken glass. Window popped out and a large part of this factory roof collapsed.

This level of damage is rare but meteorites are common. They're often small and burn up as they enter the earth's atmosphere.

Later today an asteroid the size of an Olympic swimming pool, called 2012 DA, will make the closest recorded pass of earth. Closer than some satellites.

"We understand its orbit extremely well and we can say with great confidence that there is no chance of hitting the Earth."

In this part of Russia, that will be welcome news.

"Some people asking if that asteroid flyby that we're expecting is somehow linked, scientists say no, they're calling it a cosmic coincidence. Back to you." Return to index of stories...

Charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, found shot four times, police say, in the head, and body at Pistorius's upscale, well-secured home around 4am Thursday.

Steenkamp-- at 30, a covergirl, law school grad, soon-to-be-reality show contestant-- was set to give a Valentine's Day talk about empowering women.

Instead, her heartbroken family spoke about her.

Her future has been cut short and I just can say she's with the angels."

The world is used to seeing Oscar Pistorius in all his athletic glory, winning on the blades that earned him the nicknames blade runner, the fastest man on no legs make history running.

Now emotional, accused and staying in jail.

"So Pistorius will have to stay in jail at least until his bond hearing, that won't be until next week. You know early on there were these reports and questions raised could this have been some case of mistaken identity. Is it possible that Reeva Steenkamp might have been mistaken for an intruder in the home but police emphasize they've been dismissive of that. That that information did not come from them. TEXAS FUGITIVE SEARCH LATEST-PKG

SCRIPT:

--A knock in the night and a shout of "police" sets dogs to barking in

a nice neighborhood in Grapevine.

It's about a half-mile from the Walmart parking lot where police say

convicted sex offender Alberto Morales stabbed his transport guard and

escaped Monday night.

Thursday night, members of a federal fugitive task force went door to door,

and searched room to room when residents allowed them inside. Outside,

flashlight beams bounced off fences, windows, and culverts -- anyplace a

man might hide.

Homeowner Phillip Hinkle watched the team clear his house with military

precision. As surreal as the scene appeared, Hinkle said, "I find it

reassuring."

He was happy to see them. The fugitive hunters know how desperate and

resourceful Morales is.

Morales was kicked off a flight from Miami to Nevada that had a scheduled

layover in Houston. He began acting erratically, slamming his head on the

seat in front of him. The pilot on the plane refused to allow him and the

detectives to get back on for the final leg. So they rented a car and headed

northwest to Nevada, stopping in North Texas to retrieve a third detective

from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Earlier Thursday, Miami-Dade County Deputy Police Chief Juan Perez said

procedures call for three guards to transport such a dangerous prisoner by

ground. There were two with Morales, about two hours from picking up a third

at D/FW airport.

The detectives decided to stop at a Grapevine Walmart to use the restroom.

One, 28-year veteran Jaime Pardinas, remained in the car. Soon, Morales

struck, stabbing him with sharpened or broken glasses.

Perez said Pardinas might have thought Morales was asleep. The detective is

improving and was scheduled to be moved out of ICU Thursday.

Perez also said Thursday his officers' actions will be reviewed.

Right now, his focus is on finding Morales and supporting his wounded

detective. Return to index of stories...

AIRLINE TICKETS-PKG

MAYBE THE OFFER WILL COME AT THE TICKET COUNTER. OR MAYBE ONLINE. BUT EXPECT A NEW SALES PITCH FROM THE AIRLINES.

.BECAUSE HERE'S A FACT WORTH REPEATING ABOUT THE INDUSTRY.

"Airlines are not very profitable so they're looking for as many different ways to get you to fork out as much cash. even after you buy your ticket"

SO, THE NEWEST WAY TO GET YOU TO FORK OVER MORE CASH IS BY BUNDLING. PUTTING FEES TOGETHER IN A BUNDLED PACKAGE. AND OFFER THEM AT A DISCOUNT.

FOR EXAMPLE, DELTA'S BUNDLE INCLUDES PRIORITY BOARDING, PLUS 24-HOUR WI-FI. FOR $42. A BIT CHEAPER THAN IF YOU BOUGHT THEM SEPARATELY.

AMERICAN'S BUNDLE HAS PRIORITY BOARDING, A FREE CHECKED BAG AND A WAIVER OF THE DREADED CHANGE FEE.ALL FOR $68 ROUNDTRIP. LESS THAN HALF WHAT YOU PAY FOR JUST A TICKET CHANGE.

"I think that's a good bet ! As someone who changes their ticket a lot, I'm saving that $150 each time"

BRIAN KELLY IS THE POINTS GUY. FOUNDER OF THE WEBSITE OF THE SAME NAME. ON HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR TRAVEL POINTS. AND AN EXPERT ON AIR TRAVEL.

.WHO SAYS IT'S ALL ABOUT WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO.

"It's really just about knowing what fees are out there and figuring out how to get around them before you get to the airport. 1638 Because if you don't do your research, you're gonna.you're gonna be fleeced"

AMERICANS SPENT MORE THAN SIX-BILLION DOLLARS ON AIRLINE FEES IN 2012. A FIGURE EXPECTED TO GO HIGHER THIS YEAR EVEN IF BUNDLING DOESN'T WORK.
