SPRING TRAINING GAMES ARE A HOT TICKET IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
AND THERE'S NO BETTER PLACE TO CATCH A GAME THAN IN THE COUNTY SUITES.
I think having a policy to track where the tickets are going is exactly what needs to be done and i'm surprised it hasn't been done before.
FOR THE FIRST TIME---COMMISSIONERS WILL HAVE TO FILL OUT WHO SITS IN THESE SEATS FOR THE RED SOX AND TWINS GAMES.
THROUGH THE COUNTY'S CONTRACT WITH THE RED SOX AND TWINS, THE COUNTY GETS 50 TICKETS FROM BOSTON AND 40 TICKETS FROM MINNESOTA FOR EACH GAME.
THE TICKETS ARE TO BE USED TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY GOODWILL, OR TOURISM.
if i'm officially representing the county I will certainly do my job but as far as me just using it as my own personal needs, then no, i don't think that's going to be happening.
WHAT *WILL BE HAPPENING IS EVERYTIME A COMMISSIONER HANDS OFF TICKETS.THEY HAVE TO FILL OUT THIS SHEET.
THE INFORMATION WILL BE TURNED INTO THE LEE COUNTY SPORTS AUTHORITY AND WILL BECOME PUBLIC RECORD.
anything where government can be more transparent helps.
SINCE THE COUNTY NEVER TRACKED THE TICKETS BEFORE, JEFF MIELKE CALLED SEVERAL OTHER CITIES FOR SUGGESTIONS, BEFORE DRAFTING LEE COUNTY'S POLICY.
certainly there is not a consistent way that a majority of communities handle it, everyone handles it completely different so we have to just forge our own policy and do the best we can with it.
Return to index of stories...
IF THE TICKETS AREN'T USED--MIELKE SAYS HE IS FIGURING OUT WHAT THE COUNTY WILL DO WITH THEM, BUT IN THE PAST THE COUNTY HAS GIVEN THE TICKETS BACK TO THE TEAMS TO SELL.
IN THE POLICY---THERE IS NO PENALTY IF COMMISSIONERS USE THE TICKETS FOR PERSONAL USE, BUT THE COUNTY ATTORNEY IS LOOKING INTO WHETHER COMMISSIONERS WOULD HAVE TO CLAIM IT AS ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION ON THEIR TAXES.

TWO LOS ANGELES POLICE OFFICERS ARE TELLING THEIR STORIES TONIGHT.OF HOW THEY WENT INTO HIDING FEARING THEY WERE ON THE HIT LIST FOR EX-COP CHRISTOPHER DORNER.

S/ Chris Clackum Reporting not on camera
EMADA AND PHIL TINGIRIDES ARE MARRIED MEMBERS OF THE L-A POLICE DEPARTMENT. WITH A BLENDED FAMILY OF SIX CHILDREN.
. ALL OF WHOM WERE TARGETS OF CHRISTOPHER DORNER. BECAUSE CAPTAIN PHIL TINGIRIDES ONCE RECOMMENDED DORNER BE FIRED.
:14 - :29
"Never, ever did I think somebody would go to this extent in their rage over the discipline that was handed to them.
BUT DORNER DID. THE FORMER L-A-P-D OFFICER WENT ON A KILLING SPREE THAT LEFT FOUR DEAD.
.BEFORE HE WAS CORNERED AND KILLED LAST WEEK IN A MOUNTAIN CABIN THAT BURNED TO THE GROUND NEAR BIG BEAR LAKE CALIFORNIA.
DURING THE COURSE OF HIS RAMPAGE, DORNER RELEASED A MANIFESTO NAMING TINGIRIDES AND OTHERS AS PART OF A RACIALLY BIASED DEPARTMENT THAT HAD FIRED HIM UNFAIRLY.
WITH THAT, THE TINGIRIDES AND THEIR CHILDREN WERE PUT UNDER 24 HOUR PROTECTION IN THEIR HOME. AND THE TASK OF KEEPING THEIR CHILDREN CALM.
1:01 - 1:06
"There were many times we broke down but we'd go to the garage and cry."
BOTH SAID THEY READ ONLY PARTS OF DORNER'S MANIFESTO AND TOTALLY DISAGREED WITH HIS ALLEGATIONS OF RACISM WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT.
.THAT CHIEF CHARLIE BECK STILL PROMISES TO INVESTIGATE.
"I don't, for a minute, discount the effect the manifesto had on LAPD.
THIS WAS ALSO THE FIRST TIME BECK HAS SPOKEN SINCE THE STANDOFF THAT ENDED WITH DORNER'S DEATH.
.WHICH HE SAID IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED. AS WELL AS WHO'S ENTITLED TO THE ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN REWARD MONEY FOR DORNER'S CAPTURE.

Lee County goes with its top pick to take over its embattled helicopter program.
Air Methods will take over MedStar - which was grounded 6 months ago.
NBC 2's Joe Roetz has followed this story and joins us from downtown Fort Myers with the latest.
Take Live
-AFter months of uncertainty and debate about which direction to take over the county's helicopter program, Lee COunty Commissioners decided Colorado based Air Methods is their choice.
Take Vo
-Commissioners made the unanimous decision wihout much debate this morning.
-You'll remember - MedStar was grounded last year after the discovery the county had improperly billed patients upwards of 3 million dollars.
-Patients can expect to pay more. WHile the county charged a base fee of 85- hundred dollars per flight, Air Methods starts at more tan 13-thousand dollars.
- Instead of county taxpayers footing the bill - the money will come straigt from patients and their insurance companies.
-The County estimates it will save more than 2-million a year.

style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 10pt" should continue to enjoy pleasant
weather for the next few days. A limited amount of moisture is over the state to
produce isolated showers this afternoon and early evening â€" but the steering
winds from the southwest should keep most of the activity well east of I-75. The
rest of the evening will be partly cloudy and our low tomorrow morning will be
around 60 degrees. Starting tomorrow you will notice a little increase in our
humidity and clouds will be around throughout the day. A weak cold front will
wash-out as it crosses the state on Wednesday and very little, if any, rain is
expected. Our afternoon high will hit 82 degrees tomorrow as the front passes
with little fanfare. In fact, looking at computer guidance for the rest of the
week it looks like we will continue to warm each day into the mid 80’s and keep
our overnight lows in the 60’s. A breeze off the st1:place w:st="on"Gulf of
