FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Warm weather pattern"
A weakening cold front approaching our part of the state from the northwest will not bring much in the way of precipitation or even a cool down as it fades and fizzles across the area. It will bring a shift in our winds as a light breeze from the northeast develops throughout the day.
Through the afternoon we'll continue to see a mix of sun and clouds and before the day is over temperatures will have topped out in the lower 80s. Beaches and coastal areas will be a few degrees shy of the 80° mark as a seabreeze develops off the freshly chilled waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Tonight, partly cloudy skies will remain in the forecast and overnight lows will be warmer than average as they cool into the middle 60s. Once again, patchy fog may develop by early tomorrow morning.
High pressure out in the Atlantic will take over our weather pattern once again as we round out the work week keeping us partly sunny and dry. Temperatures and humidity will continue to climb especially as we head into the weekend as daytime highs return to the middle 80s and overnight lows drop off into the upper 60s.
Next rain chance looks to be early next week with the arrival of our next cold front.

AFTER NEARLY 47 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, CHARLES STRASSNER LOST HIS WIFE ANNE.

CHARLES KNEW HIS WIFE WAS DYING, BUT HER DEATH WAS STILL UNBEARABLE. HE HAD WHAT DOCTORS CALL BROKEN-HEART SYNDROME.
"It is absolutely a real thing. They have chest pain reminiscent of a heart attack. They have EKG changes that look like a heart attack."
THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. IT'S ACUTE HEART FAILURE TRIGGERED BY STRESS AND IT CAN HAPPEN TO HEALTHY PEOPLE WITH HEALTHY HEARTS.
"They can present with life-threatening arrhythmias and actually sudden death and need to be shocked and resuscitated back to life."
IT CAN KILL YOU, BUT IT CAN ALSO BE TREATED AND REVERSED. RESEARCHER KATHLEEN KING HAS UNCOVERED ANOTHER MYSTERY: HAPPILY MARRIED PEOPLE WHO HAVE HEART SURGERY ARE MORE THAN THREE-TIMES AS LIKELY TO BE ALIVE 15 YEARS LATER AS UNMARRIED PEOPLE.
"We were really surprised at the result. We really did not expect the difference to be that big."
AND HOW HAPPY YOU ARE MATTERS.
"83 percent of the women who were highly satisfied with their marriage were still alive compared to 29 percent of the women who were not satisfied with their marriage."
CHARLES IS HAPPY FOR EVERY MINUTE HE HAD WITH ANNE.
"It's still lonely though. Making supper for one is not that great."
BUT HE HAS FAITH HE'LL SEE HER AGAIN.
"Just by the Grace of God I get through the days, day by day."

That's the basis for a wellness exam. To get in front of your doctor for a thorough once over. But do you know what to expect from a physical?
DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS
RUNS:
6:45 What I tell patients is you want to get a full head to toe exam.
FIRST DOCTORS 'GET INTO YOUR HEAD'- TALKING ABOUT ANY ACHES, PAINS OR CONCERNS YOU HAVE. IT'S CALLED A REVIEW OF SYMPTOMS. ONCE THAT'S FINISHED, THEY'LL TAKE A LOOK.
DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS
RUNS:
6:45 The physician or nurse practitioner should be examining you in a gown so they can look at your skin and make sure they're listening and feeling every part of your body to make sure physically that you're healthy.
THE BASICS INCLUDE: BLOOD PRESSURE, HEART RATE, WEIGHT, TEMPERATURE AND RESPIRATION. ANYONE ONE OF THESE CAN TRIGGER A ADDITIONAL TESTING.
DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS
RUNS:
09:19 So some of them are blood tests, some of them are procedures or other physical tests.
A DOCTOR SHOULD LISTEN TO YOUR HEART, LUNGS AND ABDOMEN, AND LOOK IN YOUR EARS, EYES AND NOSE. THEY CAN DO A BASIC NEUROLOGICAL EXAM AND TEST YOUR REFLEXES. ALONG WITH A SKIN CANCER EVALUATION. MALES AND FEMALES HAVE GENDER SPECIFIC SCREENINGS. A NEW ADDITION FOR SOME, IS A FITNESS EXAM.
DR. SAL LACAGNINA/VP HEALTH & WELLNESS
RUNS:
11:48 When most people get their wellness exams they are sitting down on a exam table, they're not doing anything physical. If you really want to know you're healthy you do a fitness assessment.
A COMPREHENSIVE TEST CAN TAKE UP TO 45 MINUTES. A SMALL INVESTMENT IN YOUR HEALTH.
JEFF STEFFEL/GETS ANNUAL PHYSICALS
RUNS:
1:30 I can't imagine why someone wouldn't see a doctor every year. The benefit to your health is huge.

IT WAS ANOTHER TEARFUL DAY IN COURT FOR AN OLYMPIAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING HIS GIRLFRIEND.
NEW DETAILS ARE COMING OUT ABOUT THE NIGHT OSCAR PISTORIUS SAYS HE ACCIDENTALLY SHOT HIS GIRLFRIEND - THINKING SHE WAS AN INTRUDER.
NBC'S MICHELLE KOSINSKI REPORTS FROM SOUTH AFRICA.
Return to index of stories...
We did not expect this level of detail.
The chief police investigator was on the stand and he said on the night of the killing Oscar Pistorius would have had to walk down a 23-foot long hallway and actually go inside the bathroom to fire four shots through the door of a small enclosed toilet from about five feet away.
Investigators said he would have been wearing his prosthetic legs because the trajectory of the bullets was at a downward angle and that the bullet holes were fairly high in the door.
Pistorius though has said that night he was not wearing his prosthetic legs.
The investigator also says he has two witness statements- one from a woman who heard what she said sounded like fighting for a full hour between two and three o'clock in the morning and that shortly afterward she heard gunfire.
Another neighbor, police say, says he heard that gunfire, went out on his balcony to see what was going on and he saw the lights on in Pistorius' home then heard a woman scream two or three times and then heard more gunfire.
Now at one point today the investigator said unequivocally that police had found in Pistorius' home steroids, specifically testosterone with needles for injection.
REPORTER CLOSE:
BUT UNDER QUESTIONING BY THE DEFENSE THE POLICE FINALLY SAID LOOK OKAY WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT SUBSTANCE WAS, WE DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS TESTOSTERONE.
THE DEFENSE CLAIMS IT WAS MERELY THIS HERBAL REMEDY BUT IT'S NOW BEING TESTED AND TOMORROW WE SHOULD FIND OUT WHETHER OR NOT PISTORIUS WILL BE RELEASED FROM JAIL ON BOND.

AUSTIN, Texas - Lance Armstrong's attorney says the cyclist won't interview under oath with a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency official who wanted Armstrong to tell them all he knows about doping.
USADA officials had said Armstrong must speak with them if he hoped to reduce his lifetime ban from sports. Wednesday was the deadline for him to agree to interview.
After more than two months of negotiations with USADA, Armstrong attorney Tim Herman now says Armstrong won't participate in a process designed "only to demonize selected individuals."
Armstrong has said he is willing to participate in an international effort to clean up cycling.
For years, Armstrong denied using performance-enhancing drugs. But in January admitted doping to win seven Tour de France titles - which already had been stripped by USADA after a lengthy investigation.
