CONSIDER IT A WIN FOR MARCO ISLAND GUN OWNERS-
AFTER DOZENS PACK CITY HALL TO SEND A MESSAGE ABOUT FEDERAL GUN REGULATIONS.
it's about protecting your god given rights.
I feel there are more important issues than gun control.
LAST MONTH - PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA MADE HIS MARK ON THE ISSUE OF CONTROL - CALLING FOR SWEEPING REFORMS LIKE MORE BACKGROUND CHECKS, AN ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN AND ELIMINATION OF ARMOR PIERCING BULLETS.
MARCO ISLAND CITY COUNCIL DECIDED LATE LAST NIGHT IT ISN'T LISTENING.
we hope this catches fire.
JARED GRIFONI HELPED CRAFT THE RESOLUTION-
WHICH CALLS ON COLLIER COUNTY AND THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO IGNORE ANY LAW RESTRICTING THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.
the city of Marco Island and any other municipality has the authority to dictate how and when its resources are used.
The resolution also states Marco Island will not use any city resources like funding or police to enforce any federal regulations.
MARCO ISLAND RESIDENT JOAN HESS DISAGREES WITH THE RESOLUTION.
idf you don't have a gun you can't shoot so I don't believe in it. You shouldn't have them. Period.
BUT COLLIER COUNTY COMMISSIONER TIM NANCE SAYS YOU CAN COUNT ON COLLIER COUNTY'S SUPPORT - WHEN IT TAKES UP A SIMILAR RESOLUTION ON TUESDAY.
that will support the 2nd amendment but basically passes the baton off to the legislature and governor to take action on the 2nd amendment.

I SPOKE WITH MARCO ISLAND POLICE CHIEF DON HUNTER WHO HASN'T TAKEN A STANCE ON THE ISSUE.
HE SAYS IF A FEDERAL LAW IS HANDED DOWN - HIS OFFICERS WILL HAVE TO ENFORCE IT UNLESS A COURT RULES HE DOESN'T HAVE TO.

WHEN YOU HEAR ABOUT HASSLES ON FORT MYERS BEACH, THIS ONE TOPS THE LIST.
we don't even bother to come down here because you get backed up for probably three quarters of an hour to an hour
TOWN LEADERS HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR UPGRADES FOR YEARS, HOPING TO IMPROVE ESTERO BOULEVARD TRAFFIC--
AS LEE COUNTY AND TOWN STAFF START TO SCULPT SOLUTIONS, THERE'S DOUBT THE COUNTY CAN FUND IT.
that is a huge undertaking and with no foreseeable funding
TODAY, COUNTY COMMISSIONER FRANK MANN TOLD TOWN COUNCIL PLANS TO RE-BUILD FROM CRESCENT STREET TO BIG CARLOS PASS COMPETE WITH ANOTHER NEED:
THE BRIDGE AT THE SOUTH END OF THE ISLAND IS NEARING THE END OF ITS LIFE-SPAN.
you can ignore Estero Boulevard, and we have, for 50 years, you can't ignore a bridge that's going to collapse
MANN SAYS THE BRIDGE IS SAFE, BUT REPLACING IT CARRIES AN ESTIMATED 45 MILLION DOLLAR PRICE TAG--
THAT'S ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT NEEDED TO UPDATE THE BOULEVARD.
AND WATER AND SEWER SYSTEMS ON THE ISLAND NEED REPAIRS TOO.
it would be a shame, actually a poor decision, to do them, separately and dig things up twice
TOWN MAYOR ALAN MANDEL SAYS THAT'S MORE REASON TO LOOK FOR FINANCING NOW, SUGGESTING THEY CONSIDER LOW INTEREST LOANS-- TO COVER COSTS.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
NICE WEATHER AGAIN TOMORROW
The weather patter still looks good for us tomorrow. I expect mostly clear weather this evening and, once again, tomorrow morning will likely be foggy in some places to start the day. Fog this morning reduced visibility in many areas and there could be a repeat performance tomorrow morning. Temperatures this evening will fall through the 60's and land about 59/60 to start the day on Thursday. The weak front I mentioned yesterday has washed out over the center part of the state and we won't be seeing any cool weather move down here. Tomorrow's highs will be the in mid 80's and beach temperatures will be in the upper 70's. Winds off the cool Gulf of Mexico water will keep beaches a few points "cooler" than inland areas.
Looking ahead to the weekend it appears than another weak front will move into the northern part of our state and we remain on the warm side of this next weather system. Some computer guidance tries to pop up a few showers on Sunday afternoon, but I think it will be mainly dry for our area this weekend. Humidity will continue to come up a bit each day through Sunday as we top out around 84 degrees.
For forward planning - the long-range forecasts predict a pattern change for us by the middle of next week. We will start to see more showers moving in and some cooler temperatures are predicted by the first weekend in March.
