A real-life scenario set up to train and test collier county's first responders.
John reilly, north naples battalion chief

Golden gate and north naples fire departments, the collier county sheriffs office and ems all working together on water rescue training--
Just one month after cecilia douglas and her two little girls died when their car crashed into a canal on alligator alley.
Reilly:
16:36 tragically whenever you have an event like that within the community every first responder in the county is going to stop and look at how they respond to an effort like that 44
Crews practiced using the same gear and techniques used on that rescue.
Special scuba gear allows diver to communicate with one another under water-- and with crews on the ground.
Within minutes, the first patient is out.
A chopper lands to airlift the victim to a hospital.
After one hour, the rescue turns to a recovery effort-- crews search for the two remaining bodies.

This was a battle between two very good attorneys.
First the defense blasted the prosecution's case about how police gathered evidence, things they say were just wrong and the fact the chief investigator now faces attempted murder charges for an on the job shooting.
He is now off the case.
"Embarrassing? There is nothing embarrassing for us, as the police. Because that's a judgment that you are taking."
Then it was prosecutors' turn to blow holes in Pistorius' account of what happened that night.
They said even if you believe it this is still the pre-planned murder of a burglar.
Pistorius said he woke up in the pitch black, thought it was a burglar, thought Reeva was next to him in bed, grabbed his gun and started shooting.
Prosecutors said wait a minute.
He would have had to walk by Reeva three times.
You think this is a burglar and you're not at least going to look to see if she's there and try to wake her?
At least look at her.
REPORTER CLOSE:
THEY CALLED HIS ACCOUNT TOTALLY IMPROBABLE. THEY SAID THAT PISTORIUS IS PRONE TO VIOLENCE AND HE IS BOUND TO BE CONVICTED.

EVER WONDER HOW SAFE IT IS - ALL OF THOSE ADRENALINE-PUMPING ATTRACTIONS?
NBC2'S CLIFTON FRENCH REPORTS FROM NORTH FORT MYERS WITH WHAT INSPECTORS ARE CHECKING BEFORE THE FIRST TICKETS ARE TAKEN.
Return to index of stories...
THE RIDES ARE ALMOST ALL READY TO GO FOR THE NIGHT.
BUT THE QUESTION MANY PARENTS HAVE IS HOW DO YOU KNOW THEY'RE SAFE?
SETTING UP A FAIR IS NO EASY TASK.
BUILDING THE RIDES, SETTING UP THE GAMES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
MAKING SURE EVERYTHING IS SAFE.
SOT: Rickey Reithoffer, Carnival Manager "We're dealing with people's lives, we want it safe and we want to you feel you're bringing you kid out to the fair you're not going to put them on something you think is going to hurt them, we've got a good rigorous maintenance program."
CERTIFIED STATE INSPECTORS HAVE BEEN AT THE FAIR SINCE MONDAY MAKING SURE EVERYTHING IS OKAY TO RIDE.
BUT BEFORE THEY GET HERE, QUALIFIED INSPECTORS ON STAFF ARE ALREADY CHECKING THE SAFETY.
SOT: Rickey, "That's just the first line of defense, that's in house everytime we move we have to have a 3rd party state inspector come out."
STU: "On top of that, there's a foreman running each ride."
AND THEY'RE ALL EXPERTS ON THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.
CHECKING EVERY BOLT, GEAR, GREASE, AND SAFETY BAR.
AND IF YOU'RE WORRIED THAT TEARING DOWN AND PUTTING THESE RIDES BACK UP MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS.
CARNIVAL WORKERS SAY THAT PROCESS HELPS THEM MAINTAIN EACH PIECE OF EQUIPMENT.
SOT:
Rickey Reithoffer, Carnival Manager "Everytime we move we have to be looked at again whereas amusement park rides are stationary. Sometimes people worry about having the rides torn down and set up each week. At the same time by taking them apart we get to see on the inside what's wearing and what needs to be replaced and really get to do a lot more maintenance than if you have the rides set up completely."
AND IF IT DOESN'T PASS THE STATE INSPECTOR'S LIST. THE RIDE SIMPLY DOESN'T OPEN.
THE INSPECTORS HERE HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT ALL 47 RIDES SINCE MONDAY.
IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO GO TO FAIR YOU CAN FIND ALL OF THAT INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE, NBC-2.COM, JUST CLICK ON NEWSLINKS.

ALMOST TWO MONTHS INTO THE NEW YEAR, AND MANY OF US HAVE LOST OUR RESOLVE. THOSE PROMISES WE MADE ABOUT FOOD ARE A DISTANT MEMORY. BUT DIETITIANS SAY CHANGING YOR DIET SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HURT.
JENNIFER VARGO/DIETITIAN
RUNS:
5:52 We're really cooking from the heart. Start with the basics.
IN TRADITIONAL SOCIETIES, PEOPLE EAT FAR LESS PROCESSED FOOD, WHICH IS LOWER IN SODIUM. THEY ALSO EXHIBIT LESS HEART DISEASE.
JENNIFER VARGO/DIETITIAN
RUNS:
4:47 The sodium content is something we all need to be watchful of. There are foods that tend to be higher in sodium for example some of the deli meats cheeses can get there, pickles, olives things like this. Sticking more with fresh vegetables and fruits of course I going to be a way to lower the sodium content.
WHILE YOU'RE TRYING TO TRIM SODIUM, YOU CAN BOOST FIBER ONE ON-TREND WAY IS BEANS.
JENNIFER VARGO/DIETITIAN
RUNS:
10:09 Hummus would be a wonderful thing to bring in there. Again you're working with beans so you're going to have that wonderful source of fiber plus you've got some healthy fats in there too because those are often made with olive oils and those are heart healthy as well.
AMY OSHIER/REPORTING
RUNS:
A Harvard study found up to 70-percent of heart disease might be avoided with a proper diet. Compared to statin drugs which reduce risk by 25-30 percent. Even our main dishes can get a heart-healthy makeover.
JENNIFER VARGO/DIETITIAN
RUNS:
8:00 Seafood is a wonderful thing we don't get as often as we should. The beauty about having seafood is that fat that is in there, is rich in there is Omega 3 which can be very good for our heart.
AND SERVING UP A FINAL PEICE OF ADVICE: BE CREATIVE AND TRY NEW WAYS TO ENJOY YOUR FOOD.
