Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We've got another warm, spring-like day on the way across Southwest Florida as temperatures climb back into the 80s under a partly sunny sky.
The only blemish in what's otherwise going to be a nice weather day is some morning fog that may get pretty thick in a few areas. Dense fog advisories are posted through 9 a.m. for our inland counties including Glades, Hendry, and interior Collier, but fog will certainly be possible anywhere across Southwest Florida.
Once we hit the mid-morning hours, the fog that's left will start to fade, and we'll be left with a nice mix of sun and clouds and afternoon temperatures in the 80s. Closer to the coast, the sea breeze will hold temperatures in the upper 70s, but elsewhere temps should peak around the mid 80s.
A southerly wind will lead to increasing humidity through the day and into our weekend, and the breeze will become a bit more active during the afternoon with gusts reaching 15-20 mph.
Unlike last weekend, this weekend will be quite warm. Even our morning temperatures will be on the warmer side of average as lows only cool into the mid to upper 60s. Fog will also continue to be an issue during the early morning, and mariners be advised we'll be watching for a good possibility for sea fog, too, as humidity continues to rise over a chilled Gulf of Mexico.
Daytime highs through the weekend should easily warm into the 80s for all areas except the coast, and our sky will be predominantly sunny with only fair-weather clouds developing through the day. Rain prospects will stay pretty low through the weekend, but there will be a slight chance for a few isolated inland showers Sunday afternoon.
A change in the weather pattern will be in order by early next week as the next front swings into Southwest Florida, so look for increasing rain chances come Monday night into Tuesday. Some rain and clouds may even linger into Wednesday as the front makes its final push to the south, but we should see clearing skies and cooler weather by Thursday.
There's even indications in our long-range forecast models that another big chill will arrive by the end of next week, so this is a possibility we'll be monitoring over the next several days.
Keep checking back with nbc-2.com for the latest weather updates, and remember you can access the only LIVE radar in Southwest Florida by using our Doppler Zoom tool online. You can also have access to our radar on your mobile device. Just search, "NBC 2 Wx" in the app store!

What a week this has been with the world watching and finally it happened today, that ruling was read.
"The accused has made a case to be released on bail. "
Oscar Pistorius broke down sobbing, his body shaking.
His family hugging and praying in relief.
"We are relieved at the fact that Oscar got bail today but at the same time we are in mourning for the death of Reeva."
You might say this was expected by many, but the judge kept everyone guessing throughout.
His ruling, in fact, lasted two hours and in it he criticized prosecutors, saying their witness presented flawed evidence, made bad statements, incorrect information, should have done more work.
But he then said that doesn't mean that the state has a weak case.
Then he criticized Pistorius, saying he has problems with his account of what happened early that morning.
But he ultimately ruled that Pistorius is not a flight risk, not a risk to the community.
Those are the big questions here, and he did grant him bail.
He upped the amount to the equivalent of more than 100-thousand U-S dollars and added lots and lots of other conditions.
REPORTER CLOSE:

NO DOUBT - IT'S STRESSFUL AND UNSETTLING FOR A LOT OF PARENTS WHEN THEIR CHILD HAS A FEVER.
BUT DOCTORS SAY MOM'S AND DAD'S SHOULDN'T PANIC.
AMY OSHER EXPLAINS.

KEEPING A COOL HEAD IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE, WHEN IT'S YOUR CHILD WHO HAS A FEVER.
CAITLIN SCHULTHEIS/MOTHER
RUNS:
:22 I think the natural inclination is to be nervous and you want to figure out what the cause is and figure out what you need to do to get it better.
IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT, ABOUT 1.6 MILLION CHILDREN A YEAR ARE RUSHED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.
DR. NANCY WITHAM/PEDIATRICIAN
RUNS:
12:23 These viral illnesses typically have a time of the day they're worse and sadly that is often in the evening, the time that the physicians office aren't open. So we do see a lot of ER visits with the sole presenting trouble is a feverish child.
AMY OSHIER/REPORTING
RUNS:
Experts say it's important to treat the child, not the number. In fact, pediatricians don't consider a temperature a fever until it tops 100.4- But too many people see the slightest elevation and grab the fever reducer.
DR. NANCY WITHAM/PEDIATRICIAN
RUNS:
4:32 The first thing we look at is how the child is feeling? If they are happily watching TV and 5 minutes ago said 'mom can I have something to eat' you don't have to do something for that fever.
FEVER REDUCERS DROP THE TEMPERATURE A DEGREE OR TWO, AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED TO COMFORT YOUR TOT. FEVERS ARE THE BODY'S WAY OF FIGHTING ILLNESS, THERE IS RESEARCH THAT SHOWS THEY ARE BENEFICIAL TO HEALING.
DR. NANCY WITHAM/PEDIATRICIAN
RUNS:
11:35 Reducing the fever may delay how fast your child gets better which gives you that difficult balance. Should you give the fever reducer to make them feel a little bit better or should you see how they're doing. That may actually help them get better a little bit faster.
SOME FEVERS DESERVE PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION: THEY INCLUDE A CHILD UNDER TWO MONTHS, IF THE FEVER LASTS LONGER THAN 5 DAYS, IF THE CHILD HAS A CHRONIC DISEASE, IF THEY ALSO HAVE A STIFF NECK, AND IF THEY'RE VOMITING AND NOT DRINKING. THE REST ARE LEFT FOR PARENTS TO DECIDE.
Marlene Mccleary/MOM
RUNS:
1:36 As long as they stay low. Anything above 102.5 is usually a sign that I definitely need to take them to the doctor.
THE MOST PAINFUL FOR A PARENT, MAY BE LETTING A FEVER RUN ITS COURSE. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER.

FORECAST OPEN

AND MACFARLANE'S RISK-TAKING EXTENDS ALL THE WAY TO HIS WARDROBE.
"I might wear one black sock, and one other sock that's also black, but made of a different fabric."
MACFARLANE TEASED HIS HUMOR ALONGSIDE EMMA STONE AT LAST MONTH'S NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCEMENT.
nats "These are five people who are the very best at sitting in a chair watching other people make a movie."
BUT SUNDAY, HE FLIES SOLO.
"Seth has to go out there, by himself, on the stage and knock it out of the park and it's a real challenge."
SO MUCH SO, MACFARLANE'S PREPARED FOR THE MAJOR SCRUTINY ANY OSCAR HOST GETS.
"Even if he sprouts wings on stage, and levitates five feet off the ground live on television, Entertainment Weekly will still go 'ehh'!"
THAT JUST RAISES THE BAR FOR MACFARLANE ON HOLLYWOOD'S BIGGEST NIGHT.
