4PM NBC2 |
RAIN AND WIND MOVING IN
We are tracking a line of heavy downpours and gusty winds this afternoon and evening. The lack of significant lightning with the weather coming in from the west would tend to indicate that our chance for severe weather is relatively low; however, some of the downpours will be accompanied by wind gusts over 45 mph and there is a chance for brief, but weak, tornadoes early on. The tornado watch issued for the area is mainly a precaution because a water spout did touch down in Tampa at 11:43 this morning. The event caused some damage around the Westin Hotel near downtown Tampa.
Looking ahead to the forecast tonight, we will continue to track the rain moving east at 20 - 25 mph. Inland counties can expect the rain shortly after sunset. Temperatures tonight will drop back into the 60's and it will still be windy through the night.
Tomorrow, the weather system will stall out over south Florida and keep our skies mostly cloudy. We will have more showers developing on Wednesday with a high in the mid 70's. Over the next few days our weather looks to be a bit unsettled as winds blow off the Gulf of Mexico and keep variable clouds overhead. By the weekend it looks like our weather will have cooled enough to keep high temperatures in the 60's and overnight lows back into the 40's for a few mornings. The trend will be for cool weather to last into next week.

FORECAST OPEN
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

THIS IS AN ACT OF TERRORISM, TOTALLY OUTSIDE THE BOUNDS OF INTERNATIONAL LAW AND DIPLOMATIC TRADITION

THEY STOOD ME UP, BLINDFOLDED ME, TIED MY HANDS BEHIND MY BACK.
Steve Kirtley was one of those hostages, then a Marine Corp guard twice subjected to mock executions -- an experience briefly depicted in Argo.
SOT Kirtley/
I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BE SHOT RIGHT THERE.
Kirtley and other former hostages are still angry over their treatment -- and want compensation from the Iranian government.
John Limbert/former U.S. diplomat
THIS IS A BIG FISH. AND THE BIG FISH IS ACCOUNTABILITY, THAT WHAT WAS DONE AT THIS POINT, THEY GOT AWAY WITH IT.
Until now, the hostages' efforts have been blocked by a 1981 agreement -- known as the Algiers Accords-- that led to the hostages' release. U.S. officials reluctantly agreed the hostages couldn't sue their former captors.
But thanks in part to Argo's publicity there's a new effort in Congress to bypass that agreement.
SOT/Rep. Bruce Braley, Iowa
IT'S LITERALLY LIKE HAVING A GUN TO YOUR HEAD AND GIVING UP YOUR RIGHTS. THAT'S WHY NOW IS A PERFECT TIME WHEN THIS MOVIE HAS CREATED SO MUCH ATTENTION/TO EDUCATE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AS TO WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH.
A bill to be introduced in the next few weeks by Congressman Bruce Braley -- with dozens of co-sponsors-- would create a special $400 million fund to compensate the hostages-- using the proceeds of fines paid by companies that violate U.S. sanctions against Iran.
It will be a relief none too soon for the former hostages.
SOT Kirtley
PEOPLE REMAIN UPSET AND EVERY YEAR, WE'RE UP TO 12, WE WATCH SOMEONE ELSE PASS AWAY.
