FIRST WEATHER-ANIBOX-OMNI

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

RAIN AND WIND MOVING IN

We are tracking a line of heavy downpours and gusty winds this afternoon and evening. The lack of significant lightning with the weather coming in from the west would tend to indicate that our chance for severe weather is relatively low; however, some of the downpours will be accompanied by wind gusts over 45 mph and there is a chance for brief, but weak, tornadoes early on. The tornado watch issued for the area is mainly a precaution because a water spout did touch down in Tampa at 11:43 this morning. The event caused some damage around the Westin Hotel near downtown Tampa.

Looking ahead to the forecast tonight, we will continue to track the rain moving east at 20 - 25 mph. Inland counties can expect the rain shortly after sunset. Temperatures tonight will drop back into the 60's and it will still be windy through the night.

Tomorrow, the weather system will stall out over south Florida and keep our skies mostly cloudy. We will have more showers developing on Wednesday with a high in the mid 70's. Over the next few days our weather looks to be a bit unsettled as winds blow off the Gulf of Mexico and keep variable clouds overhead. By the weekend it looks like our weather will have cooled enough to keep high temperatures in the 60's and overnight lows back into the 40's for a few mornings. The trend will be for cool weather to last into next week. Return to index of stories...

CHEERS

A VICTORY FOR COLLIER COUNTY GUN OWNERS--

AS COMMISSIONERS UNANIMOUSLY APPPROVE A RESOLUTION PROTECTING THEIR RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.

"I'm a veteran, I took an oath to protect the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic but most importantly I'm a father with a child in collier county schools and personally I don't feel she's safe there."

"I think the county commissioners wimped out on the issue, they voted to appease the folks here."

FEARING GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION COULD INFRINGE ON THEIR RIGHTS--

DOZENS OF PEOPLE LINED UP TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE SECOND AMENDMENT--

I SUPPORT THE RESOLUTION

ASKING LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO IGNORE ANY FEDERAL LEGISLATURE THAT WOULD PUT STRICTER CONTROLS ON GUNS.

"We don't want any local resources to be expended to enforce any laws or regulations that we think infringe on those rights."

THOSE AGAISNT THE RESOLUTION SAY COMMISSIONERS ARE MEDDLING IN DECISIONS THAT SHOULD BE DETERMINED BY OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM.

"I did not think that it was an appropriate thing for county commissioners to determine what is or is not an infringement of the second amendment."

ALSO ARGUING STRICTER LAWS ARE NEEDED TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN FROM GUN VIOLENCE.

GUN OWNERS TODAY SAY PROTECTION COMES FROM THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS--

AND THEYRE HOPING THIS LOCAL MOVE-- WILL SEND A MESSAGE NATIONALLY.

"I have a duty to protect me and my family. thankfully today I can continue to do that and send a strong message not only to the governor but to take it forward to the fed government and tell them enough with their tyranny 41 stop taking our rights away
