FIRST WEATHER-WX CNTR

After seven straight days of highs in the 80s, cooler weather will be moving into Southwest Florida over the next few days and into the weekend. Yesterday's cold front didn't bring much rain with it, but it will bring a few more clouds to the area through today as it stalls out across the southern portion of our viewing area.

Through the mid day hours, we'll continue to see sunshine mixed in with some cloudy periods especially across Collier county. Temperatures today will be a bit cooler as they climb into the middle to upper 70s, along with the slightest drop in our humidity thanks to a light northerly breeze. Much of the area will stay dry through the afternoon, however with the stalled front to our south folks around Collier county have the best chance of seeing a few spotty showers through the evening hours.

Tonight, the clouds should begin to break up across Southwest Florida with partly cloudy skies overnight. Temperatures will also be a bit cooler as they drop into the upper 50s with a few spots reaching the middle 50s by morning.

By Thursday, a bit more sunshine will break out and daytime highs will remain on a cooling trend as they top out in the middle 70s. As another system passes across the state, Friday and into the weekend we'll notice our skies beginning to cloud up and temperatures will take a tumble. By Saturday we're looking at highs in the 60s with a pretty good chance of a few scattered showers to develop Saturday and into Sunday. Overnight lows will drop into the 40s through Monday morning with 30s deeper inland.

Through Tuesday temperatures will begin to warm back into the middle 70s, which is just a few degrees below the average for this time of year. Return to index of stories...

REVOLUTIONARY CAST FOR BROKEN BONES-OC

HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN A BONE?

OR HAVE A CHILD WHO'S BROKEN A BONE?

THIS STORY IS ABOUT NEW, REVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGY.

REVOLUTIONARY CAST FOR BROKEN BONES-PKG

FROM THE SKATE PARK.

TO THE PLAYING FIELD.

MANY OF US WILL BREAK BONES NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE DURING OUR LIVES.

"First time was roller skates, and I just slipped backward, landed under my wrist. Second time was monkey bars."

ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON ERIC STUFFMANN IS NO EXCEPTION, BUT HE IS PART OF A NEW SOLUTION, USING THIS EXOS BRACE, INSTEAD OF A CAST TO HELP HEAL BROKEN BONES.

"We already have it all molded right now. Okay it's all nice and warm, right now, so we can go ahead and fit it and mold it to your hands."

MANALI SHAH BROKE HER WRIST SNOWBOARDING.

"I was coming down hill and took an edge wrong and landed backwards on the backside of my hand."

FROM THE DOWNHILL TO THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE, SHE'S ONE OF THE FIRST TO GET THE CUSTOMIZED CAST. IT'S MADE OUT OF THREE LAYERS OF HIGH TECH POLYMERS AND FOAM THAT CREATE A LIGHTWEIGHT, ADJUSTABLE, EXTREMELY STRONG BRACE.

"The way this works, now that we have this all molded, is hum, with this pushed in, okay, click, and we're just gonna tighten this."

UNLIKE TRADITIONAL PLASTER AND FIBERGLASS CASTS, THIS ONE CAN BE REMOVED DAILY AND

"There's still one benefit and that's the Exos is waterproof."

MANALI HAD A TRADITIONAL CAST FIRST, THEN CHANGED TO THIS ONE.

"It was great, because I could finally take it off to get a shower, I didn't have to put a bag over my hand; and it just breathes really well."

NOW, SHE'S LOOKING FORWARD TO TACKLING THE MOUNTAIN ONCE AGAIN.

"Just to make it down a blue without falling…hahaha."

I'M ANDREW MCINTOSH REPORTING. Return to index of stories...

MIXED IN WITH MAZE OF NAMES, NUMBERS AND PASSWORDS WE'RE EXPECTED TO REMEMBER- HEALTH EXPERTS HOPE ONE SET WILL STAND OUT. WHEN THEY ASK 'DO YOU KNOW YOUR NUMBERS?' THE ANSWER SHOULD COME FROM THE HEART.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Someone, somewhere in the US has a heart attack every 34 seconds. A number will be fatal. Heart disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women. But it can often be prevented. It starts by knowing the Big Three.

DR. ELIZABETH COSMI-CINTRON/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:53 Everyone should have a baseline cholesterol check. You at least want to know your numbers in terms of the break down components. There is a thing called LDL which is your bad cholesterol. Good cholesterol is HDL and triglyceride.

IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT TO GET A GOOD READ ON HOW HARD YOUR HEART IS WORKING.

DR. ELIZABETH COSMI-CINTRON/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:53 What is your blood pressure on a day to day basis. In other words, if your blood pressure is running high all the time and you're not aware of it- that's going to be a potential risk for heart disease.

ROUNDING OUT THE TOP THREE IS WEIGHT.

DR. ELIZABETH COSMI-CINTRON/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:53 What is your body mass index. If your body mass index is over 25 you're considered overweight and certainly a body mass index over 30 is considered obese. Those tend to be risk factors to develop other medical problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure, which then could leave to cardiovascular disease.

THIS SET OF DATA MAY GIVE YOU AN EARLY INDICATION THAT TROUBLE IS BREWING. SO WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR HEART HEALTH, IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE NUMBERS THAT COUNT. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

SKECHERS SNEAKER CONTROVERSY-OC

NOW TO A STORY THAT HAS A LOT OF PEOPLE TALKING --

ESPECIALLY MOMS AND DADS.

MANY ARE ANGRY AT SKECHERS -- THE SHOE COMPANY. FOR ITS LATEST T-V AD.

THEY'RE MARKETING GIRLS SNEAKERS. THAT HAVE A HEEL. TO MAKE GIRLS LOOK TALLER.

AND THEY'RE CALLED "DADDY'S MONEY".

AS DIANA PEREZ REPORTS, THERE IS AN ARGUMENT WHETHER IT'S A CLEVER AD CAMPAIGN OR IF ITS SENDING A BAD MESSAGE. Return to index of stories...

SKECHERS SNEAKER CONTROVERSY-PKG

THIS MORNING-- CONTROVERSY IS MOST DEFINITELY *A-FOOT* FOR SKECHERS.

THE POPULAR SHOE BRAND-- UNDER FIRE FOR MARKETING IT'S NEW LINE OF BRIGHTLY

COLORED HIGH-HEELED WEDGE SNEAKERS -- CALLED "DADDY'S MONEY"-TO PRE-TEEN AND

TEENAGE GIRLS.

X058-763-3

1:05:17

THIS IS WHOLE CAMPAIGN THIS SHOE IS RIDICULOUS ON SO MANY LEVELS

THE TAG LINE? "Get spoiled with Daddy's Money, ultra-cool shoes that will

put you in the spotlight."

BUT NOW IT SEEMS -- THE ONLY THING IN THE SPOTLIGHT IS SKECHER'S ITSELF --

WITH MOMMY BLOGGERS LIKE ERICKA SOUTER EXPRESSING THEIR OUTRAGE.

X058-763-3

1:01:30

IT TEACHES YOUNG GIRLS THAT THEY CAN USE THEIR FEMININE WILES TO GET WHAT

THEY WANT EVEN FROM THEIR OWN FATHERS.

1:02:52

AND IT'S TOTALLY SEXIST.IN THIS DAY AND AGE ALOT OF MOMMIES ARE FOOTING

HALF THE BILLS IF NOT ALL OF THE BILLS.

COMMERCIALS FOR "DADDY'S MONEY" ARE NOW AIRING EVERYWHERE FROM MTV TO

CHILDREN'S CARTOON CHANNEL "THE HUB". PARENTING COACH AND PSYCHOTHERAPIST

TAMMY GOLD SAYS IT'S MORE THAN JUST SHOCKING-- IT'S SENDING A POTENTIALLY

DANGEROUS MESSAGE TO YOUNG AND IMPRESSIONABLE GIRLS.

X0058-736_6

2:02:56

THE WHOLE ASPECT OF SELF WORTH IS OFF IN THIS BECAUSE YOU WANT TO MOTIVATE

CHILDREN ESPECIALLY IN THIS DAY AND AGE TO DO FOR THEMSELVES, TO BE

INDEPENDENT, TO GET THINGS FROM THEMSELVES TO EARN ONE DAY AND ALL OF THIS

IS SAYING THE OPPOSITE.

BUT SKETCHERS IS PUTTING ITS CONSIDERABLE FOOT DOWN AND DEFENDING THE LINE--

TELLING ABC NEWS QUOTE:

"The Daddy's Money name and the collection's advertising are designed to be

fun and lighthearted, and we regret that some people have been offended by

the name. "

FASHIONABLE OR NOT-- THE DADDY'S AND MOMMY'S WE SPOKE TO SAY THEY WON'T BE
