We see these signs at every security entrance, but soon they will be changing. Come April 25th you will be able to carry on some sporting equipment like golf clubs and also knives less than 2.36 inches long like small pocket knives.
Return to index of stories...
Larger knives like box cutters and those with locking blades are still banned, but the TSA is easing up on its policy since the 9-11 terror attacks. The reasoning behind this? The TSA says the changes will allow officers to better focus on finding higher threat items like explosives. It also helps align the TSA's list with international standards and possibly cut down the time you spend waiting in line. So next month, passengers will be able to carry on sporting equipment--no more than two golf clubs, hockey sticks, and a wiffle ball bat---and a small pocket knife. Some passengers we spoke with this afternoon had mixed reactions about the change.

Jim Green, Minnesota
"If they can relax it a little but so we can move things along quicker I mean, I don't think someone is going to take over our plane with a little pocket knife. I think some of the stuff they've done in the past is a little over the top so it would be nice to have them relax it a bit."
Susie Debrun, Naples
"I just think its a really bad idea, even a pair of tweezers can do damage to someone."
Sherry Heideman, Minnesota
"I travel all the time for work so I guess for me it seems pretty safe, I'm not too concerned about it."
The TSA says there are other policies in place like hardened cockpit doors, federal Air Marshals and crew members with self defense training that can reduce the risk of someone getting into the cockpit.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
BRIEF COOL DOWN TOMORROW
Just like we anticipated Tuesday was sunny, dry, and warmer. That explains our week ahead pretty well, but there will be a couple speed bumps along the way.
The main speed bump will be felt by early Wednesday, as a few light showers will be possible as our next cool front slides through Southwest Florida around 7:30 AM.
The timing of the rain will be close to sunrise Wednesday, but the showers should be gone by the mid-morning hours, leaving us with sunny skies for the remainder of the day. Once the front clears the area, temperatures will stay fairly cool through the day as winds become more northerly behind the front; most areas should only reach the low 70s for daytime highs.
By Wednesday night into Thursday morning, we'll have another round of temperatures in the mid 40s across the urban corridor and even some mid to upper 30s deeper inland.
Thursday will be another cool day with highs only reaching the low 70s under full sunshine, and then we'll spend another night in the 40s and 50s as we head into your Friday morning.
Temperatures will be on the rebound again as we approach the upcoming weekend, and by Sunday afternoon, daytime highs will be back in the 80s. The weekend outlook looks phenomenal, too, with comfortable humidity and rain staying out of our forecast.

The tribe is not trying to make things difficult for theses park mutuals, they agreed to give additional type sot gaming to the pari mutuals, like card games, historic reaching games."
Thats why he says the dog track and poker room are ok,
But slot machines are not.
The agreement gives the tribe " partial but substantial exclusivity,"
Which Bonita springs leaders say can be interpreted differently.

PROTECTING ANIMALS IN COLLIER COUNTY.
IT'S THE COMMON MESSAGE THAT BROUGHT THE ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD AND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TOGETHER ON TUESDAY - DISCUSSING POTENTIAL CHANGES TO COLLIER'S ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE.
Amanda Townsend, Director, Collier County Domestic Animal Services/2:17:25 "Many of them we have a consensus on and would really help move our enforcement side of things forward."
THESE TALKS ALL STEM FROM A CASE OF BREEDER NEGLECT BACK IN 2011 - WHERE GOLDEN GATE ESTATES RESIDENT ARTHUR PERKINS SURRENDERED 45 DOGS TO DOMESTIC ANIMAL SERVICES BECAUSE OF CRUELTY.
TODAY'S TOPICS RANGED FROM THE PERMITTING OF KENNELS AND PET SHOPS - TO OUTLINING SEVERAL COUNTY DEFINITIONS.
Amanda Townsend/2:17:35 "Making sure we have definitions of commercial and no commercial breeders and that we can add those to our permitting process and routine inspections."
Dan Martin/21:21:38 "Cruelty and torture is decided by state law, the neglect is where the grey area is but we're going to work on that."
ANOTHER QUESTION IS WHAT TO DO WITH FIRST TIME OFFENDERS WHO BREAK THE LAW?
THE COUNTY'S VERSION OF THE ORDINANCE WOULD ALLOW SOME CITED PET OWNERS TO TAKE A PET OWNERSHIP CLASS.
BUT OTHERS BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE HANDED A CITATION ON THE SPOT.
Dan Martin/21:22:05 "Either it's going to be a law and obeyed or it's not. Why bother writing it if you're not going to enforce it?"
WHILE THE WORKSHOP LASTED NEARLY THREE HOURS - BOTH SIDES SAY IT PROVIDED A MUCH NEEDED SENSE OF "CLOSURE" - BRINGING THE COUNTY ONE STEP CLOSER TO TIGHTENING THE RULES FOR THOSE WORKING WITH ANIMALS.
Dan Martin/21:21:22 "I'm going to count this as a win, I think there's going to be a good ordinance to come out of this.
Amanda Townsend/2:18:33 "these changes are important will really help move the department forward."
