FORECAST OPEN Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"A sunny and cool afternoon"

The cold front that brought yesterday's clouds and light rain is long gone. As a result we're in store for a couple of chilly mornings and mild afternoons with comfortable humidity levels.

Despite wall to wall sunshine this afternoon, daytime highs will continue to run 8-10° below the average as they climb into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Also, with a breeze out of the northwest for much of the day around 10mph, this will make it feel a touch cooler outside.

Tonight, skies will stay clear and winds will begin to lighten as cool high pressure continues to dry our atmosphere out. This will set the stage for another chilly night, although temperatures won't be quite as cold. Most locations will bottom out in the upper 40s with a few readings in the lower to middle 40s east of I-75.

Our warming trend will commence on Friday afternoon with highs peaking in the middle 70s. Each and every day will add a few degrees to the overnight lows and afternoon highs. In fact, by Saturday we'll be back in the 70s with lower 80s in the forecast by Sunday under partly sunny skies.

As winds begin to shift to the east and southeast, afternoon temperatures will warm into the middle 80s by the first of the week with a mainly dry pattern across our part of the state. By Tuesday, we'll be tracking another weak front sliding down the state with a few showers late in the day Return to index of stories...

ANOTHER RECORD-BREAKING DAY ON WALL STREET.

THE DOW HIT YET ANOTHER ALL TIME HIGH TODAY FOR THE THIRD DAY IN A ROW AS INVESTORS CHEER ON RECENT POSITIVE ECONOMIC AND JOBS DATA.

NICK KLUMSKY WHAT CONTINUES TO DRIVE THE MARKETS HIGHER AND WHEN CAN INVESTORS EXPECT A PULLBACK OR CORRECTION.

NICK - Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA

i'll tell you, it's hard to believe that the stock market as measured by the s&p500 is already up over 8% year to date.

and that's on top of the 11.5% the s&p returned last year in 2012.

so i think the markets are ready to take a breather and a pullback in the area of 6 to 8% might be a healthy thing for a longer extension of this bull market rally. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-CG

· Of course when will this happen or what will trigger a selloff is anyone's guess right now. But let's first answer the question of why markets are moving higher and then talk about possible events that could trigger a selloff and then some historical data that might point to when the best time to invest in the markets might be.

· So right now, I would say the primary driver pushing markets higher is the Federal Reserve's very loose monetary policy of maintaining interest rates at zero percent. And basically, the zero interest rate environment we've been experiencing now for the past several years has forced savers and fixed income investors who are now earning very little on their assets to take on riskier assets like high dividend paying stocks and real estate in order to generate a better return.

· Another driver of the stock market is the basic fundamentals of the economy. Several economic indicators including manufacturing, housing, and employment data suggest that the US economy is further strengthening. A stronger economy would point to stronger consumer demand which would drive higher revenues for American Corporations which in turn leads to higher profits thus a lift in stocks.

· One last driver is current investor sentiment and the fact that many investors who have been sitting on the sidelines in cash up until this point are scared that they are missing out the bull market rally.

· Regardless of what extent each of these drivers has played in the recent bull market rally, we're probably due for a pullback. And there are several things that could trigger that pullback or consolidation in the marketplace. First, and right around the corner, we have the big unemployment number being released tomorrow and if for some reason, that number doesn't look good, it could give the markets reason to pause and take a breather.

· Second, if the issues surrounding the debt ceiling and the budget are not resolved in Washington there will be the threat to a government shutdown in May, which could spook the markets sending stocks lower. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA

· And third, looking at what stocks generally do in the month of May, and after such a healthy run in stocks in the first quarter of 2013, investors might just be ready to take some chips off the table and book profits in April and May which could also send markets lower. Regardless of the triggers a pullback, we feel that some consolidation in the markets right now will help stocks to further extend their rally in the future. Return to index of stories...

i would like to go for another 12 hours to try and break strom thurmond's record I have discovered there are limits to filibustering and i'm going to have to take care of one of those in a few minutes here.laugh

IT WAS AN ATTEMPT TO BLOCK THE CONFIRMATION OF JOHN BRENNAN AS PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA'S NEXT C-I-A DIRECTOR.

HIS PRIMARY CONCERN: THE ADMINISTRATION'S POLICY OF USING DRONES IN TARGETED KILLINGS.

AFTER PAUL FINISHED, SENATOR DICK DURBIN, THE NUMBER TWO DEMOCRAT IN THE SENATE, ENTERED MOTIONS TO CLEAR THE WAY FOR THE CONFIRMATION TO MOVE AHEAD. Return to index of stories...

RAND PAUL REAX-OC SOT OC

TODAY THE SENATOR IS OPENING UP ABOUT HIS MARATHON FILIBUSTER AND THE TOLL IT TOOK ON HIS BODY.

Bash How is your voice"

Paul: Voice is recovering and I think I lost a few pounds so there are some advantages to not eating all day though I was sneaking candy bars. There is a candy drawer and if you go to the candy drawer you can sneak around and get a candy bar. But I see that you all caught me with half the candy bar in and half out. My wife said can't you chew with your mouth closed when you are on the floor?

REPUBLICANS JOHN MCCAIN AND LINDSEY GRAHAM SAID THURSDAY THAT PAUL'S CLAIMS WERE UNFOUNDED, AND SAID THE DEBATE UNNECESSARILY CREATED FEAR AMONG AMERICANS.

THE WHITE HOUSE SAYS PRESIDENT OBAMA DOES NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO USE A DRONE TO KILL A U.S. CITIZEN ON AMERICAN SOIL IF THE CITIZEN IS NOT ENGAGED IN COMBAT. Return to index of stories...

YOU HEAR THE TERM HOLIDAY HEART SYNDROME AND YOU MIGHT MISTAKE IT FOR SOMETHING GOOD, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY SOMETHING YOU WANT TO AVOID.

RESEARCHERS BELIEVE EXCESSIVE DRINKING INCREASES HEART ACTIVITY AND MAY MAKE A HEART CONDITION WORSE.

AMY OSHIER REPORTS IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS-PKG

WHEN A HEARTBEAT GETS OUT OF RHYTHM, IT MAY BE A SYMPTOM OF AFIB, SHORT FOR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION. IT'S A COMMON HEART CONDITION THAT CREATES AN INCREASED RISK FOR STROKE.

DR. ROSHAN VATTHYAM/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

:36: It's the most common cardiac arrhythmia that we see in the population. There's abnormal progression of the electricity of the heart and through certain triggers and electrical reasons and anatomy and things like that, the top part of the heart actually fires off at quite a rapid rate.

A RANGE OF FACTORS CAN INFLUENCE HEART RHYTHMS, INCLUDING AGING. THE PALPITATIONS OR RACING HEART COULD ALSO BE A SIGN OF HEALTH CONDITION LIKE THYROID ISSUES. BUT DOCTORS ARE FINDING LIFESTYLE CHOICES RAISE THE RISK OF AFIB.

DR. ROSHAN VATTHYAM/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

3:57 Heightened exercise can cause some triggers. The other thing we try to look for is excess caffeine, sometimes dark chocolate.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Another contributor: Alcohol. For years now, studies found that booze can have a disturbing effect on the heart. It maybe because heavy drinking can lead to dehydration- which is a known trigger. Doctors see a spike in Afib around the holidays.

DR. ROSHAN VATTHYAM/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

3:57 There's this kind of strange phenomenon called the Holiday Heart when you know everyone eats their salted pork, drink their beer, then they kind of just go into this rhythm heart failure atrial fib for awhile.

THE ALCOHOL-AFIB LINK IS ALSO FOUND AMONG BINGE DRINKERS. IF IT'S COMBINED WITH SLEEP DEPRIVATION, EXHAUSTION OR DEHYDRATION- THE RISK INCREASES.

DR. ROSHAN VATTHYAM/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

3:57 So there's certainly things you can try to do to prevent it from happening. It's one of those tough things to deal with sometimes.

MODERATING ALCOHOL INTAKE MAY BE ONE WAY TO SLOW A RACING HEART. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
