5:02 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

Today's Weather Story

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Chilly morning, mild afternoon"

The cold that front that brought yesterday's clouds and light rain is long gone. As a result we're in store for a couple of chilly mornings and mild afternoons with comfortable humidity levels.

Temperatures will start off in the mid 40s in town, while some of our colder inland spots will hold in the upper 30s. Lots of sun will fill our skies throughout the morning hours, and this should help to melt away the chill in the air. Despite wall to wall sunshine this afternoon, daytime highs will continue to run 8-10° below the average as they climb into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Also, with a breeze out of the northwest for much of the day around 10-15 mph, this will make it feel a touch cooler outside.

Tonight, skies will stay clear and winds will begin to lighten as cool high pressure continues to dry our atmosphere out. This will set the stage for another chilly night, although temperatures won't be quite as cold. Most locations will bottom out in the upper 40s with a few readings in the lower to middle 40s east of I-75.

Our warming trend will commence on Friday afternoon with highs peaking in the middle 70s. Each and every day will add a few degrees to the overnight lows and afternoon highs. In fact, by Saturday we'll be back in the 70s with lower 80s in the forecast by Sunday under partly sunny skies.

As winds begin to shift to the east and southeast, afternoon temperatures will warm into the middle 80s by the first of the week with a mainly dry pattern across our part of the state. By Tuesday, we'll be tracking another weak front sliding down the state with a few showers late in the day. Return to index of stories...

5:42 FORECAST ON THE 2'S-WX WALL

Weather Trends

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Chilly morning, mild afternoon"

SMARTPHONE PRINTS-PKG

I'M TAKING PICTURES AT THE PARK THE WAY MOST PEOPLE SEEM TO BE DOING IT THESE DAYS. WITH A SMARTPHONE.

"I usually use my phone just because I always have it with me."

"Because it's so much easier, a lot lighter."

BUT WHILE PHONES ARE REPLACING TRADITIONAL CAMERAS. THEY ARE ALSO CUTTING INTO THE NUMBER OF TRADITIONAL PRINTS PEOPLE ARE MAKING.

"No."

"DO YOU MAKE PRINTS ANYMORE?"

"not very often, put 'em on the computer."

THAT WORRIES PEOPLE IN THE PHOTO FINISHING BUSINESS, NOT JUST BECAUSE IT MEANS LESS MONEY. BUT ALSO BECAUSE IT COULD MEAN FEWER MEMORIES.

"There's billions of pictures now instead of just millions of pictures."

"BUT ARE THEY GETTING PRINTED?"

"no, not at all."

AND A LOST PHONE, A CRASHED COMPUTER, THE DEMISE OF AN ONLINE WEBSITE. AND THOSE DIGITAL PICTURES COULD BE LOST FOREVER.

"think of the family photos we can still look at from our parents and grandparents, but will this digital generation be able to look at their pictures 50 years from now?"

"the number one issue that folks had with their smartphones was the ability to print."

SO HEWLETT PACKARD AND OTHERS ARE TRYING TO MAKE IT EASIER TO PRODUCE PHOTO QUALITY PRINTS FROM SMARTPHONES. H-P HAS THEIR OWN EPRINT SERVICE THAT SENDS PICTURES FROM YOUR PHONE TO YOUR CLOSEST PHOTOFINISHER.

"There's something to the permanence of having that printed photograph that you can use that's really great. Right now the best archival is a print."

NELSON PHOTO USES AN APP FROM LIFEPICS TO SEND DIGITAL PHOTOS TO IT'S STORE PRINTERS.

THAT'S WHAT I DID WITH THE PICTURES I TOOK AT THE PARK. TODAY, THE QUESTION ISN'T WHETHER SMARTPHONES TAKE GOOD PICTURES. BUT WHETHER THOSE PICTURES WILL BE AROUND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

"for our children, for our memories. we make scrapbooks and we keep them all in albums so we can flip through them easily."

"SO YOU MISS HAVING PICTURES IN YOUR ACTUAL HAND?"

"yes I do, the hard copy." Return to index of stories...
