COLD FRONT ON THE WAY

Another round of fog is possible again this evening. As temperatures cool before midnight we could see some areas in southwest Florida with reduced visibility for a time. This fog forecast for tonight is not quite the same as last night, because a cold front is moving down the peninsula and should help to break up the fog a little sooner. The front will arrive tomorrow and linger through Thursday. Our weather will likely be very different on Wednesday and Thursday versus what we saw today. Cloudy skies are expected, temperatures will be lower, wind picks up a little, and. some rain showers are possible. The best chance for showers to develop will be late in the day on Wednesday. There will likely be on / off showers on Thursday. Temperatures for the next 2 days will cool into the 60's during the day and into the low 50's at night.

But take heart. the long-range forecast looks just fine for the weekend! Sunshine will start to return on Friday and by Saturday/Sunday we will be back in the 80's with mostly sunny weather. Return to index of stories...

COLLIER EMERGENCY RESPONSE-trx OC

TWO FIRE DISTRICTS IN COLLIER COUNTY COULD MERGE INTO ONE.

NBC 2'S BRYAN ANDERSON UNCOVERED THAT TODAY -- ALONG WITH BIG CHANGES ON THE WAY TO EMERGENCY RESPONSE IN THE COUNTY. Return to index of stories...

COLLIER EMERGENCY RESPONSE-PKG

TRT-1:34

FEARS OF FRAGMENTATION AND SEGMENTATION CONTINUE TO DOMINATE COUNTY COMMISSION DISCUSSIONS ON EMERGENCY RESPONSE.

Vice Chairman Tim Nance, Collier County

19:48:41-:44

The people in the fire districts are great, but they're segmented in the county.

Commissioner Donna Fiala, Collier County

19:40:41-:46

It's going to continue to happen and all of a sudden we won't have a county-wide EMS system anymore.

COMMISSIONERS WANT TO ACHIEVE AN ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT RESPONSE TIME OF 8 MINUTES.

BUT THEY CAN'T AGREE HOW.

HILLER

19:54:20-:30

You know how various shows like Saturday Night Live make spoofs of the various tv stations repeating the same word over and over and over again? Well, it's the same thing. It's just propaganda.

DESPITE OTHER DISTRICTS PROVIDING ALS, BIG CORKSCREW'S REQUEST TO DO THE SAME HAS FAILED TWICE.

HILLER

19:52:03-:05

Why? It doesn't make any sense at all.

THIS MORNING COMMISSIONERS DECIDED THEY WILL PAY TO MAKE CHANGES.

BY APRIL, COLLIER EMS PLANS TO HIRE 6 MORE PARAMEDICS FOR THE NORTH NAPLES FIRE DISTRICT.

THEY'LL OPERATE A NEW AMBULANCE.

AND BIG CORKSCREW WILL GET 3 PARAMEDIC FIREFIGHTERS.

CAPTAIN ERIC WATSON CALLS THE VOTE HYPOCRITICAL.

19:55:53

Absolutely it is, yes.

BECAUSE SOME COMMISSIONERS VOTED AGAINST BIG CORKSCREW'S ALS REQUESTS FOR FUNDING CONCERNS.

WATSON

19:55:27-:32

I don't know if it's the most efficient and effective use of county tax dollars.

COUNTY OFFICIALS TELL US THEY WON'T HAVE TO DIP INTO RESERVES TO COME UP WITH MORE THAN 881 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

HILLER SAYS THAT DOESN'T MEAN THE COUNTY CAN AFFORD IT.

HILLER

19:52:37-:42

We still have substantial debt. We have over 500 million in debt.

HILLER

19:53:36-:42

It's the public that's paying for it, so partnerships are absolutely essential.

THE CONVERSATION DOESN'T END HERE.

COMMISSIONER HILLER WANTS TO REVISIT NORTH NAPLES AND BIG CORKSCREW'S CHANGES.

AND NEXT WEEK BOTH DISTRICTS WILL START MERGER TALKS.
