FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

COLD FRONT ON THE WAY

Another round of fog is possible again this evening. As temperatures cool before midnight we could see some areas in southwest Florida with reduced visibility for a time. This fog forecast for tonight is not quite the same as last night, because a cold front is moving down the peninsula and should help to break up the fog a little sooner. The front will arrive tomorrow and linger through Thursday. Our weather will likely be very different on Wednesday and Thursday versus what we saw today. Cloudy skies are expected, temperatures will be lower, wind picks up a little, and. some rain showers are possible. The best chance for showers to develop will be late in the day on Wednesday. There will likely be on / off showers on Thursday. Temperatures for the next 2 days will cool into the 60's during the day and into the low 50's at night.

But take heart. the long-range forecast looks just fine for the weekend! Sunshine will start to return on Friday and by Saturday/Sunday we will be back in the 80's with mostly sunny weather. Return to index of stories...

WHO ARE THEY.HOW DID THEY DIE. AND HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN BURIED IN UNMARKED GRAVES.

It's part of all of our history in Florida.

DR. ERIN KIMMERLE IS THE HEAD OF A TEAM OF U.S.F. RESEARCHERS. LOOKING FOR THE ANSWERS.

FOR MORE THAN 100 YEARS. THIS LOCATION WAS USED A REFORM SCHOOL. OR DETENTION FACILITY FOR BOYS. BUT MANY MEN NOW GROWN AND GRAY SAY THEY WERE ABUSED HERE AS CHILDREN. SEVERELY BEATEN FOR PUNISHMENT.

TWO YEARS AGO THE U.S.F. TEAM USED GROUND PENETRATING RADAR TO LOCATE 50 SUSPECTED GRAVE SITES.

AFTER FINALLY OBTAINING PERMISSION TO EXCAVATE. THEY FOUND 55 GRAVES. THAT'S 24 MORE BURIALS THAT OFFICIAL RECORDS INDICATE.

This is precisely why excavation was necessary. The only way to fully establish the facts about the deaths and burials at the school is to follow a scientific process which we've been using.

THE TEAM SPENT FOUR MONTH PAINSTAKINGLY EXCAVATING THE SITE. AND DOCUMENTING WHAT THEY FOUND.

IN THE GRAVES THEY DISCOVERED BONES. TEETH AND PART OF CASKETS. AND A FEW ARTIFACTS THAT MAKE IT ALL VERY REAL.

We also brought with a small stone marble that was found in one of the boys pockets.

OVELL KRELL BELIEVE HER BROTHER IS BURIED AT THE SCHOOL.

SHE SAYS HE WAS SENT THERE IN 1940. AND HER FAMILY NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN.

Like me, I can't even get a death certificate for my brother, because they never even reported him dead.

SHE HOPES THE U.S.F. TEAM WILL FIND AND IDENTIFY HER BROTHER.

ROBERT STRAYLEY WAS SENT TO THE SCHOOL IN 1963. AND HE BELIEVES MORE GRAVES WILL BE FOUND.

In those early years between 1900 and 1920 when nobody's life was worth anything if you were a prisoner, I don't think they bothered with a cemetary at all. I think they just threw em in a hole. Return to index of stories...

MOST STUDENTS AT DUNBAR HIGH USE A COMPUTER AT SCHOOL EVERYDAY.

Kira Mieles, Dunbar HS Student

17:07:34 not enough for everyone to use of course, but yes. 17:07:36

KIRA MIELES SAYS SOME CLASSES HAVE MORE DESKTOPS THAN OTHERS.

NOW A PROPOSED POLICY WOULD GIVE EVERY STUDENT THE CHANCE TO ACCESS THE WORLD WIDE WEB IN ANY CLASSROOM.

Nats We used to talk about bringing pencils to school, now we're talking about bringing technology to schools

THE LEE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD IS CONSIDERING ALLOWING STUDENTS TO BRING AND USE THEIR OWN ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT SCHOOL.

Roger Burns, Dunbar HS Student

17:04:34 if you're working on a project or something you could do research or you could contact someone who can help you. 17:04:39

ROGER BURNS LIKES THE IDEA. HE ALREADY USES HIS KINDLE IN CERTAIN CLASSES WITH THE TEACHER'S APPROVAL.

DISTRICT LEADERS KNOW OTHER STUDENTS ARE USING THEIR DEVICES, TOO - NOW IT'S TIME TO LAY OUT GUIDELINES FOR THEIR USE.

nats- dr graham This is beginning of us saying we know they are there and kids are

going to use them and work with them to be responsible.

THE SUPERINTENDENT ADMITS THEY CAN'T KEEP AN EYE ON EVERYONE'S SCREEN - BUT STUDENTS WILL BE FORCED TO USE THE SCHOOL'S INTERNET WHICH BLOCKS CERTAIN WEBSITES.

PLUS NOT EVERY STUDENT HAS AN IPAD OR SMARTPHONE.

SOMETHING THE SUPERINTEDNET SAYS MAY CHANGE WITH A BIG DONATION CHICOS IS PLANNING.
