THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Showers today, followed by a cool down"

After a warm Tuesday with highs in the lower 80s, we'll be tracking a few changes over the next couple of days as a weather system moves across the Florida peninsula. This will increase our rain prospects through Thursday, along with a brief cool down.

Mainly cloudy skies will remain overhead during the late morning and early afternoon hours, with a few passing showers from time to time. Now that the cold front has swept through the area, our winds have shifted to the north with gusts around 20mph. This chilly breeze will allow cooler air to filter down the state beginning this afternoon. Daytime highs will be significantly cooler as they top out in the upper 60s.

Tonight, cloudy to overcast skies will give way to scattered showers across the area. Overnight lows will also be about 15° cooler as they dip into the upper 40s to lower 50s by early Thursday morning.

The clouds will stay pretty thick through Thursday afternoon, even after the rain fades away. A northerly breeze will keep temperatures in the middle 60s north of the Caloosahatchee, with upper 60s to the south. Clouds look to linger through the first half of our Friday, but as high pressure builds in more sunshine should break out during the afternoon hours. This pattern will stay in place through the upcoming weekend with mainly dry weather under partly sunny skies. Winds will begin to take more of an east and southeasterly turn sending our daytime highs into the lower to middle 80s. Return to index of stories...

NBC2 HAS CONFIRMED CONNIE MACK WILL NOT RUN FOR HIS OLD SEAT IN CONGRESS.

THE MIAMI HERALD'S MARC CAPUTO SAYS BEATING CONNIE MACK MAY HAVE BEEN TOUGH FOR SOME OF HIS PROSPECTIVE OPPONENTS.BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

IN FACT -- THERE'S STILL ONE PERSON HE THINKS COULD TAKE THE WHOLE RACE -- AND THAT PERSON HASN'T EVEN OFFICIALLY TOSSED A HAT INTO THE RING YET. Return to index of stories...

CONNIE MACK NOT RUNNING-PKG

this is not a sad moment

SINCE HIS LOSS FOR U-S SENATE AGAINST BILL NELSON IN 2012.IN THE SEAT HIS DAD ONCE HELD.

WE HAVEN'T HEARD MUCH FROM SOUTHWEST FLORIDA'S FORMER CONGRESSMAN CONNIE MACK IV.

NATS --

BUT WHEN TREY RADEL GOT CAUGHT UP IN A COCAINE CONTROVERSY LATE LAST YEAR.

RUMORS STARTED SWIRLING MACK WOULD ONCE AGAIN MAKE A MOVE FOR CONGRESS.

TODAY -- WE CONFIRMED THOSE WERE JUST RUMORS.

MACK'S CAMP SENT US THIS STATEMENT.

SAYING IN PART, "I will continue to advocate for our shared principles, not as a candidate or Member of Congress, but rather as a private citizen."

6:43 - 6:53

The idea that the "magic" Connie Mack name would have instantly guarenteed him election to office is false.

MARC CAPUTO IS A POLITICAL WRITER WITH THE MIAMI HERALD.

HE SAYS MACK'S NAME RECOGNITION AND EXPERIENCE WOULD HAVE MADE HIM A TOUGH OPPONENT.

BUT EXPLAINS A WIN FOR MACK WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A SLAM DUNK, ESPECIALLY IF STATE SENATOR LIZBETH BENAQUISTO ENTERS THE RACE.

2:10 - 2:25

I think if Connie Mack had run against LB in a straight-up race in the GOP primary, he still could have lost. She's got good institutional support in Tallahassee, that could lead to more soft money support for her behind the scenes, which can translate into more ads

ALTHOUGH BENAQUISTO HASN'T OFFICIALLY DECLARDED SHE'S RUNNING.

THERE'S A LOT OF SPECULATION SHE WILL.

AND IF THAT HAPPENS.

CAPUTO EXPLAINS SHE COULD BE A POLITICAL FORCE TO RECKON WITH.

3:20 - 3:46

She has good relationships with people in Tallahassee, not only the reining power structure, but also fellow Democrats as well.I don't want to say she's going to be coronated though. Paige Kreegel and a so called super PAC are already starting to bombard her with negative ads. That will show this is going to be no cake-walk; she's going to have to earn it. NINTENDO TROUBLES-PKG

AT THE SUPER POTATO RETRO GAMING CENTER, FANS OF THE CLASSIC NINTENDO GAMES CAN SPEND HOURS PLAYING THEIR OLD FAVORITES.

KEITA FURUYAMA REMEMBERS WHAT IT WAS LIKE OWNING AN EARLY Nintendo CONSOLE.

When I first bought a Nintendo, I was the envy of my friends, they all wanted to come over to my house to play.

SINCE THE LAUNCH OF ITS WIIU IN NOVEMBER 2012, NINTENDO HAS SOLD MORE THAN 3.5 million UNITS WORLDWIDE.

IT ORGINALLY SAID IT EXPECTED TO SELL 9 MILLION CONSOLES IN FISCAL YEAR 2013 BUT IT LAST WEEK, THEY REVISED THAT FORECAST TO 2.8 MILLION.

BY CONTRAST, SONY'S PLAYSTATION FOUR - LAUNCHED IN november - HAS ALREADY MOVED MORE THAN 4 MILLION UNITS. AND MICROSOFT'S LATEST OFFERING THE XBOX ONE, HAS SOLD 3 MILLION SINCE IT'S LAUNCH IN NOVEMBER.

MANY GAMERS SAY, THE WIIU CAN'T COMPETE WITH THE GRAPHICS AND TITLES OFFERED BY THE COMPETITION.

I just find Sony more attractive as a gaming platform, even when you play a game that is available on both consoles, the Sony version is more fun than Nintendo.

MASARU SUGIYAMA - A GAMING ANALYST FOR GOLDMAN SACHS WHICH HAS CUT THEIR 12-MONTH TARGET PRICE BY 8% AND DOWNGRADED THE STOCK TO A SELL - AGREES.

A lot of people who are buying PlayStations and xbox one's are really dedicated hardcore gamers who are willing to spend large amounts of money to gaming. They spend more time and they care about the graphics and they care about the quality or the spec of the machine. However, people who conventionally play the Nintendo Wii games, were families or casual gamers.

BUT IT APPEARS THE COMPANY'S SHARE OF THE MARKET IS SHRINKING. EVEN MAKING IT MORE AFFORDABLE, HASN'T HELPED.

The Wii U priced at 100 dollars below the competitionthe hardware specifications were below the xbox one and PS4's so those populations also went for the PS4 and Xbox one, so Wii U was left with not many people left to buy.

THE NEWS IS NOT ALL GRIM. NINTENDO reportedly HAS 62 BILLION YEN ON CASH-- that's over 600 million-- & SALES OF ITS HANDHELD 3DS REMAIN STRONG.

AND, SUGIYAMA SAYS ,THE COMPANY IS WORKING THROUGH SEVERAL STRATEGIES THAT COULD GIVE IT A COMPETETIVE EDGE. LIKE GOING AFTER LESS DEVELOPED MARKETS.

Console companies around the world have not really tackled the emerging markets in the past two decades or so, maybe 3 for the reasons such as piracy or low discretionary spending. But all of these issues are getting solved.

ANALYSTS SAY PROFITS COULD ALSO BE BOOSTED BY DEVELOPING MOBILE SOFTWARE & SELLING GAMES ONLINE Return to index of stories...

SICK CRUISE LATEST-TRX PKG

ROYAL CARIBBEAN'S CRUISE SHIP IS DUE HOME TO NEW JERSEY LATER TODAY, AND FOR SOME PASSENGERS, IT COULDN'T BE SOON ENOUGH.

THE C-D-C ADVISED "EXPLORER OF THE SEAS" TO CUT ITS VOYAGE SHORT AFTER A STOMACH VIRUS SICKENED AT LEAST 629 PASSENGERS AND 54 CREW MEMBERS ON BOARD.

ACCORDING TO DATA FROM THE C-D-C WEBSITE, THAT'S THE MOST SICK PATIENTS REPORTED ON A SINGLE CRUISE SHIP IN THE LAST TWENTY YEARS.

TO STEM THE TIDE OF ILLNESSES.STAFF ARE SANITIZING SURFACES AND ISOLATING SICK PATIENTS.EVEN ENDING SELF-SERVICE AT THE BUFFET LINES. SO PASSENGERS DON'T CONTAMINATE THE FOOD.

AFTER VISITING THE INFIRMARY, ILL PASSENGERS WERE ENCOURAGED TO STAY IN THEIR CABINS.

"All of us who were quarantined had labeled cabins so they knew who was quarantined and they told us call room service every few hours and everything is complimentary from here on in for you."

NOW ROYAL CARIBBEAN IS ADDING ON EVEN MORE PERKS TO COMPENSATE PASSENGERS.

"In addition to a 50% refund on their trip.and a 50% credit toward a future booking. passengers report they've received $400 to spend on board. Free Wifi.reimbursed parking at the port.even free wine and rum."

"There are definitely disgruntled people on this ship, there's no doubt about it. However I think most people on this ship feel we've been more than compensated. They are going out of their way to make everyone happy on this ship.

AFTER THE SHIP PULLS INTO PORT, AND PASSENGERS GO HOME.THE C-D-C WILL CONTINUE INVESTIGATING HOW THIS HAPPENED. Return to index of stories...

New Row 1 Jason Lewis

Five people have died, and 23 people have been injured because of Tuesday's wintry weather in Alabama, the state Emergency Management Agency said Wednesday.

ATLANTA - Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal says there are no more students stranded on buses in the winter storm gridlock, but there are still thousands of kids who spent the night at schools.

Deal said Wednesday those children will get escorts home from National Guard vehicles or police. Authorities are also going out to give people stranded on the icy highways food, water, blankets and gas.

It's still not clear exactly how many people are stranded or when the clogged highways might clear. The city, along with much of the Deep South, became paralyzed Tuesday when a winter storm dumped snow, sleet and rain on the roads and they froze over. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

SOME HOMEOWNERS ARE STILL DIGGING OUT. Return to index of stories...

NM TUMBLEWEEDS-PKG

WHILE PEOPLE IN THE NORTH ARE SHOVELING FEET OF SNOW, PEOPLE IN *CLOVIS* ARE SHOVELING FEET OF TUMBLE WEEDS.

A STORM SUNDAY CARRIED THOUSANDS OF TUMBLEWEEDS INTO TOWN, COVERING STREETS AND FILLING BACKYARDS TO THE BRIM.

"This is a pile of tumble weeds between 2 homes. As you can see the tumble weeds are so high, the windows on the side of the home are completely covered."

"We tried to get out of the house and front door and back door was both covered with tumble weeds and we couldn't get out."

WILFORD RANSOM SAYS THE PROBLEM WAS SO BAD --- HE COULDN'T GET OUT OF HIS HOUSE.

HE CALLED 911 FOR HELP.

"They asked what was the emergency and i told them we were covered with tumble weeds and we couldn't get out of the house."

THIS IS A WINDOW INTO RANSOM'S BACKYARD.

AS YOU CAN SEE, HIS BACKYARD IS COVERED IN 3 TO 4 FEET OF TUMBLEWEEDS

"It was like a whirlwind of tumble weeds moving across the road as well as in the air. it was like masses of tumble weeds almost like ocean waves."

GEORGE COBB SAW THE STORM.

"Tumble weeds were spinning in the air."

AND LIKE MANY IN CLOVIS--- HE'S DIGGING OUT OF TUMBLEWEEDS.

BUT IT'S NOT JUST NEIGHBORS WHO NEED HELP--- THE CITY HAS BEEN CLEARING TUMBLEWEEDS.

BUT THEY HAD TO BRING IN REINFORCEMENTS FROM CANON AIR FORCE BASE.

"It's a big mess. It's going to blow tumbleweed stubs for awhile."

SO WHERE DO YOU PUT ALL THE TUMBLEWEEDS?

THEY'LL END UP IN THIS LANDFILL.

THEY'LL BE SMASHED DOWN-- TO KEEP THEM FROM BLOWING BACK INTO TOWN. Return to index of stories...
