AFTER FALLING 700 POINTS IN THE PAST WEEK AND A HALF, THE DOW HAD A PRETTY GOOD DAY TODAY.

ALONG WITH STOCKS, INTEREST RATES ALSO FELL, PUSHING BOND PRICES UP.

NICK CLUMSKY FROM WELLS FARGO JOINS US NOW WITH YOU CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE RECENT DECLINE IN BOTH STOCKS AND INTEREST RATES. Return to index of stories...

WELLS FARGO-PLASMA CG

· The last week or so hasn't been too much fun to watch and a 700 point pullback in the Dow seems like a pretty big drop. But I think it's important to note that the 700 point drop only translated into a 4% pullback in stocks which really isn't that big of a move considering the S&P500 was up about 45% in the last two years. And like Jim talked about on Tuesday, these little dips and bumps in the market are a normal part of a stock market cycle. As of today, the market is only down about 3.5%

So the question is, what should you do now and how can you take advantage of the recent pullback in both stocks and interest rates. Let's first start with the recent drop in interest rates and what that means for you fixed income investors.

As most of you know, there's a negative correlation between interest rates and the prices of bonds, that is when interest rates rise, bond prices fall, and when interest rates fall, like they have recently, bond prices rise. So if you missed the opportunity several months ago to sell some of your intermediate or longer-term bonds, and to reposition your portfolio in preparation for a rising rate environment, now would be a great time to review your asset allocation knowing that bond prices will be challenged as interest rates continue to climb higher in the future.

And what we're advising is to rethink how you generate income in your retirement plan. In the past, you might have been able to generate nearly all of your retirement income by investing in traditional fixed income products like CDs, corporate bonds, or municipal bonds. In today's low interest rate environment, it would be challenging if not impossible for you to do that.

Additionally, you are unlikely to see the prices of your fixed income products to go up like you've seen them do in the past three decades. In fact, you're likely to see bond prices fall over the next several years as interest rates climb higher. So we are recommending that you consider a different approach to generating retirement income through what we call a mutli-asset income strategy. And really all this means is that instead of generating income solely from cash and bonds, consider diversifying your investments to include asset classes like high dividend paying stocks, preferred stock, real estate investment trusts and master limited partnerships. And with the recent pullback in the stock market, now might be a good time to purchase these investments at a lower price.

By diversifying away from traditional fixed income products as the main source of your retirement income you may also be reducing your interest rate risk and at the same time increasing the potential or opportunity to grow your investments over time. Contact your financial advisor to review the downside risk of your bond portfolio and the advantages of transitioning to an income plan that includes more than just bonds. some upwards of one 1 in 7, 1 in 8 individuals can have an acl tear in skiing.

THE ACL CONNECTS THE FEMUR, OR THIGH BONE, TO THE TIBIA, OR SHIN BONE AND PROVIDES STABILITY TO THE KNEE. BECAUSE THE ACL CAN'T HEAL ON ITS OWN, IT MUST BE SURGICALLY RECONSTRUCTED WITH BIOLOGICAL TISSUE FROM THE PATIENT'S OWN BODY OR FROM A CADAVER. FULL REHABILITATION CAN BE SIX MONTHS TO A YEAR OR MORE.

by one estimate, 80 PERCENT of us complain of back pain.

IF THERE'S ONE THING WE'RE PROTECTIVE OF, IT'S OUR SPINE. BUT WHEN PAIN BECOMES A CHRONIC, DEBILITATING CONDITION, PEOPLE WILL GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO BEAT BACK PAIN.

DR. GENE MAHANEY/PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

RUNS:

:20 Spinal stimulation is a modality that's been around about 20 years. To help people with failed back syndromes, patients with failed back surgeries particularly, patients with neuralgias, spinal stenosis neuropathies of the lower extremities mostly.

SPINAL STIMULATION INVOLVES A SURGICALLY-IMPLANTED DEVICE WHICH EMITS AN ELECTRICAL PULSE THAT DISRUPTS PAIN SIGNALS TO THE BRAIN.

DR. GENE MAHANEY/PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

RUNS:

1:14 What we're doing is stimulating the dorsal column of the spinal cord, which is where the nerves extend and travel into the body and the legs predominantly. And the cervical spinal it will extend into the arms. These nerves are in a location where we can very efficiently block pain signals and prevent patients from experiencing daily chronic pain.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

The goal is to relieve pain and reduce dependency on powerful painkillers. These neuro-stimulators, sometimes called a pacemaker for pain- are gaining in popularity, as a permanent solution.

DR. GENE MAHANEY/PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

RUNS:

1:44 The generator is roughly the same size as the pacemaker you may see on someone's chest. The leads are extended typically into the spine into about the mid-back level and do a great job of controlling pain.

THE LATEST ADDITION TO THE SPINE STIM LINEUP IS AN MRI-FRIENDLY VERSION. ALLOWING PATIENTS NOT ONLY THE FREEDOM TO MOVE, BUT THE FLEXIBILITY TO UNDERGO FUTURE MEDICAL PROCEDURES.

DR. GENE MAHANEY/PAIN MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

RUNS:

2:53 We can actually put these in and actually allow people to obtain an MRI down the road without any risk of their well-being.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

CLOUDY, COOL, DAMP AND DREARY

The morning starts with temperatures in the upper 40s to mid 50s along with cloudy skies and showers on the radar. Today, we'll stay cloudy and damp with showers off and on throughout the day. At times there will be pockets of heavier rain, but of what we get will be of the light to moderate shower activity. When you add it up, we're looking at around 0.5" to 0.75" in many place with some places getting 1"-1.5". This is going to be a rather gloomy day. With the cloud cover and shower activity, we'll only be able to warm into the mid 60s at best. Winds from the north around 15 mph will gust around 20-25 mph.

Clouds will stick around tonight on into tomorrow, but the coverage of rain will be going down. Temperatures will be more mild tonight with lows in the mid and upper 50s. We could still see just a spotty shower as we head through the day Friday with temperatures rebounding into the upper 70s.

As we look ahead toward the weekend, we'll slowly see more sunshine and temperatures will warm back into the lower 80s. Into the first half of next week, we'll keep those highs in the lower 80s under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Return to index of stories...

SOCHI SECURITY-PKG

A TOP US OFFICIAL SAID YESTERDAY THERE'S BEEN AN INCREASE IN REPORTS OF

THREATS AGAINST THE OLYMPICS.

BUT THE REAL WORRY ISN'T ABOUT THE SPORTS VENUES.

Matthew Olsen, Director of the National Counter-terrorism Center:

The greater threat is to softer targets in the greater Sochi area, and in

the outskirts, beyond Sochi, where there is a substantial potential for a

terrorist attack.

RUSSIAN OFFICIALS SAID TODAY THEY DETAINED TWO BROTHERS WHO ALLEGEDLY

TRANSPORTED THE SUICIDE BOMBERS RESPONSIBLE FOR ATTACKS LAST MONTH IN

VOLGOGRAD, ABOUT 400 MILES FROM SOCHI.

THE BOMBINGS AT A TRAIN STATION AND ON A BUS KILLED 34 PEOPLE AND WOUNDED

MANY MORE.

EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE GROUP THAT TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ATTACKS

RELEASED THIS VIDEO, ALLEGEDLY SHOWING THE TWO BOMBERS BUILDING THEIR

BOMBSWIRING THEMSELVESAND TRAVELING TO THEIR TARGETS.

THE MEN SAID THEIR GROUP HAD MORE OF WHAT THEY CALLED "SURPRISE PACKAGES"

FOR SOCHI AND THE TOURISTS WHO WILL ATTEND THE OLYMPICS.

ABC NEWS SPENT DAYS MAPPING OUT THE SECURITY IN AND AROUND SOCHI.

THE RUSSIAN MILITARY AND ITS ANTI-MISSILE DEFENSE STYEM ARE TUCKED AWAY IN

THE HILLS. CLOSED CIRCUIT CAMERAS ARE EVERYWHERE.

BUT THERE'S A HIGHLY VISIBLE POLICE PRESENCE DOWNTOWN AND IN THE AREAS

NEAREST TO THE OLYMPIC VENUES.

A SECURITY BLIMP FLIES OVER OLYMPIC PARK WHERE THE INDOOR EVENTS WILL TAKE

PLACE AND ARMED NAVY SHIPS PATROL THE NEARBY WATERS.

Daniel Merkley, Director of Olympic Village

order to keep the venue secure we've closed off actual access to the
