FIRST WX JIM-ANIBOX TOPS WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

The pipeline of tropical moisture that's produced a couple cloudy, rainy days continues to dump moisture into Southwest Florida today, but we are tracking a couple improvements from yesterday's gloomy forecast.

First, the rain won't be as widespread, and second, temperatures will be warmer.

Rain will still be possible at any time and any place today, but the overall coverage of rain won't be as widespread as what we saw yesterday. Our rain chance today will be near 60%, so chances are good you'll encounter some passing showers at some point during the day.

With respect to temperatures, yesterday most of us didn't even warm into the 60s. Today, the cool air will start retreating to the north, and slightly warmer air will take its place. After starting this morning with temperatures in the 50s, we'll warm into the mid 60s by noon and most likely the low to mid 70s during the afternoon--about a 15 degree warm up from yesterday.

For those wanting some sunnier weather, there are improvements coming just in time for the weekend. Saturday will remain fairly cloudy, but we should manage partial sunshine from time to time. Some isolated showers will be possible tomorrow, but our rain prospects will be considerably low with the chance of rain around 30%.

Sunday's forecast looks even better with a partly cloudy sky and rain pretty much out of the forecast.

For the warm weather fans, you'll love this weekend. High temperatures will make the low to mid 80s Saturday and Sunday with overnight temperatures only cooling into the mid 60s.

The warm weather rolls along into next week, too, with highs in the mid 80s through mid week along with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Return to index of stories...

FUGITIVE FRIDAY-5 SS

We're starting off our list with a man who's got a history of committing violent

crimes since he was a young teenager. Alphonso James, now 20, is currently

wanted by the law for violating his probation following an arrest for grand theft.

This Lehigh Acres resident was first arrested at age 12 for felony theft charges,

then at 13 for child molestation. By age 16, he'd racked up a string of burglary

and grand theft charges and then, as an adult, he's continued on that broken

path, with jail time for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, grand

theft auto and resisting arrest, among other charges. James also goes by the

street name of "Scoop" and has numerous tattoos, including the name Joel on

his right arm and the phrase "Made with flames" on his left arm. Upon his arrest,

Alphonso James will be held without bond in the Lee County Jail.

Next up is Bryan Ross, a registered convicted felon wanted for failing to show

back up in court after being arrested for the possession and sale of cocaine.

This 25 year old fugitive has already amassed a lengthy rap sheet, with 21

bookings to his name. Among his legal malfunctions are charges of child

neglect, grand theft auto, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing and

eluding officers, a shooting, multiple counts of battery and a long list of drug

related charges - and that's just in Lee County. He's also been incarcerated in

Alachua County for larceny theft and trafficking in stolen property. Ross was last

known to be living in Dunbar, and has numerous tattoos, including a tear drop

and five stars on his face, a rosary with the phrase "only God can judge me" on

his neck,

"Shores Boy" on his left arm, and the word "hate" on his right hand.

Also going to lengthy measures to avoid contact with law enforcement is Luis

Raul Sanchez, who turns 18 years old today. Sanchez is very high up on

law enforcement's radar, and is a person of interest in several active robbery

investigations. Despite his young age, Sanchez is already a familiar face to

deputies, and is believed to be armed, dangerous and affiliating himself with a

less than law abiding crowd. He's known on the streets as "Wicho" and could be

hiding out in the San Carlos Park area.

And finally, Crime Stoppers is hoping someone can put a name to the face of

this woman, who robbed an 80 year old woman at a Publix parking lot earlier this

month. According to the victim, the woman was behind her in line, then followed

her out to the parking lot. After the suspect got into her car, she motioned to

the victim to come over as if she needed help. At that point, the suspect tried

to grab the senior citizens purse. The spry victim didn't give up easily, and tried

to hold onto what was hers, however the suspect ended up pushing her to the

ground, causing some minor injuries. She then took off at a high rate of speed

and quickly starting making fraudulent charges with the cards she'd just stolen.

Deputies are looking for any information on who this woman is, and where she

can be found, to ensure that she can't target any more unsuspecting victims. Return to index of stories...

SOT LUCIANO GHIRGA

THE COMMUNICATION WAS VERY BRIEF. IT WAS BRUSQUELY INTERRUPTED SINCE AMANDA WAS REALLY UPSET.

ON EDGE … UNABLE TO EAT ALL WEEK KNOX CALLED A POSSIBLE GUITLY VERDICT A TRAIN WRECK.

SENTENCED TO 28 AND A HALF YEARS KNOX WILL BE FREE TO REMAIN IN SEATTLE WHILE THE APPEAL PROCESS CONTINUES.

SOLLECITO GOT 25 YEARS BUT IS FORBIDDEN TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY.

IT IS SIMPLY BEYOND COMPREHENSION TO UNDERSTANDING HOW THIS COULD BE AND HOW THERE COULD BE ANY OTHER VERDICT OTHER THAN ONE OF NOT GUILTY. THE SAME TYPE OF VERDICT THAT OCCURRED LAST TIME.

THE JUDGES HAVE 90 DAYS TO SUBMIT A WRITTEN EXPLANATION OF HOW THEY REACHED THEIR VERDICT.

SPEAKING TO REPORTERS THIS MORNING THE VICTIM'S FAMILY SAID NO VERDICT WILL BRING BACK THEIR SISTER.

SOT

"Nothing will ever take away the horror of what happened to her."

BUT SEVEN YEARS SINCE MEREDITH KERCHER WAS MURDERED AND JUSTICE HAS NOT RUN ITS COURSE.

LIVE TAG:

KNOX'S LAWYERS SAY THE VERDICT HAS NOT SHAKEN THEIR FAITH THAT KNOX IS INNOCENT. AN APPEAL TO ITALY'S SUPREME COURT, THEY SAY, WILL COME NEXT.

KNOX'S LAWYERS SAY THEY HAVE FAITH THAT THEIR CLIENT IS INNOCENT BUT THE KERCHER FAMILY SAY IF THE VERDICT IS UPHELD THEY WANT KNOX EXTRADITED BACK TO ITALY TO SERVE HER TIME IN PRISON.

FIRE CREWS REFUSE TO HELP DYING MAN-PKG

WHEN 77-YEAR-OLD CECIL MILLS COLLAPSED OUTSIDE THIS SHOPPING CENTER - HIS DAUGHTER MARIE SAW ONE SILVER LINING - THEY WERE JUST ACROSS THE STREET FROM A FIRE STATION.

HELP WOULD SURELY BE ON THE WAY QUICKLY.

BUT SHOCKINGLY- FIREFIGHTERS REFUSED SEVERAL DESPERATE REQUESTS FROM THE DYING MAN'S DAUGHTER AND WITNESSES.

MARIE SAYS A FIREFIGHTER WATCHING DIDN'T HELP.

"I even ran to the curb and said are you going to help me, or are you going to let my dad die?"

MARIE SAYS FIREFIGHTERS TOLD PEOPLE TRYING TO GET HELP THEY HAD TO CALL 9-1-1 BEFORE ANYONE COULD RESPOND.

"Protocol is heartless. It is heartless. That's how I felt."

SOMEONE DID CALL 9-1-1 LATER, BUT TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE,

THAT AMBULANCE WENT TO THE WRONG LOCATION -- TWENTY-SIX BLOCKS AWAY.

CECIL MILLS DIED LATER THAT DAY- LEAVING HIS DAUGHTER HEARTBROKEN AND DC OFFICIALS OUTRAGED.

THEY'RE NOW INVESTIGATING - QUESTIONING FIFTEEN PEOPLE, INCLUDING THREE FIREFIGHTERS BELIEVED TO BE INVOLVED DIRECTLY.

WE TRIED TO TALK TO THEM TOO.

"Was anyone who is here today there on Saturday?"

"No."

THE DEPUTY MAYOR WHO OVERSEES THE DEPARTMENT SAYS NOTHING SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED HELPING MILLS.

"Firefighters routinely go into danger. They don't wait to be called. They respond. That's what's troubling about this. This goes against what firefighting is all about."

DO SUPER BOWL ADS WORK-2 SHOT

FOUR IN TEN VIEWERS OF THE SUPER BOWL WON'T WATCH FOR THE FOOTBALL BUT FOR THE COMMERCIALS.

BUT IN THE END,

DO THOSE ADS MAKE PEOPLE WANT TO BUY WHAT THEY'RE SELLING?

NICHELLE TURNER TAKES A LOOK. Return to index of stories...

DO SUPER BOWL ADS WORK-PKG

DO YOU REMEMBER LAUGHING AT THIS??

FEELING REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE DURING THIS??

OR ROOTING FOR THIS ADORABLE LITTLE KID?

YOU KNOW YOU LIKED *WATCHING* THEM. BUT DO YOU EVEN REMEMBER WHAT THOSE COMMERCIALS WERE FOR?

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, DESPITE ALL THE BUZZ, A RECENT SHOWS 80-PERCENT OF THOSE ADS DON'T MAKE PEOPLE TO BUY THE STUFF THEY'RE SELLING.

SO WHY ARE COMPANIES SPENDING BIG BUCKS ON ADS YEAR AFTER YEAR?

IF DOING THIS AD DURING THE SUPER BOWL DOES NOT INCREASE SALES AND DOESN'T UP THEIR PROFIT, WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

They do it because if it is successful, the gain is tremendous.

SOME EXPERTS SAY THE SUPER BOWL AD CRAZE STARTED 30 YEARS AGO. WHEN STEVE JOBS TOOK A CHANCE BY AIRING A CONTROVERSIAL AD FOR APPLE'S DEBUT OF THE MACINTOSH - COMPUTER. DRAWING PARALLELS BETWEEN IBM COMPUTERS, AND THE CONFORMIST SOCIETY IN GEORGE ORWELL'S NOVEL "1984."

Apple saw a huge spike in Macintosh sales. It was incredibly effective, it was emotional and I think ever since then, that was the benchmark and is still the benchmark today that people use to decide whether or not a super bowl ad is effective.

THAT AD COST HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO PRODUCE… SINCE THEN THE cost TO PRODUCE AND AIR THE COMMERCIALS HAS SKYROCKETED.

IN THE PAST DECADE, FORBES MAGAZINE SAYS MONEY SPENT ON ADVERTISING DURING THE SUPER BOWL HAS DOUBLED FROM $150-MILLION DOLLARS TO MORE THAN $300-MILLION… BECAUSE IT'S ONE OF THE FEW T-V EVENTS OF THE YEAR THAT'S EVIDENTLY DVR-PROOF.

You and I don't want to show up to work on Monday and say, I want to watch the Super bowl on tape tonight. We want to watch it live. And that is the main reason why the Super Bowl, which is going to have more than 100 million people watching it live, commands the price for advertising that it does.

SINCE COMPANIES ARE SPENDING ALL THAT MONEY ON JUST A FEW HOURS OF T-V BROADCASTING, SOME NOW RELEASE TEASERS WEEKS AHEAD OF THE BIG GAME TO GARNER BUZZ ONLINE.

DAVID BECKHAM'S H&M AD MAY SCORE POINTS WITH AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION.

So what happens? You can go there, you can even vote for the end of his commercial.

Everybody loves David Beckham for one reason or another.

WHILE OTHERS MAY FALL SHORT OF THE GOAL LINE.

I think that's a flop. I don't think Wonderful Pistachios will see a bounce in sales because of that commercial. Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

COP CUTS WOMANS WEAVE-VO PLASMA

CAUGHT ON CAMERA IN MICHIGAN.

A POLICE OFFICER IS OUT OF A JOB AFTER SHE WAS SEEN ON VIDEO,

ALLEGEDLY YANKING A YOUNG MOTHER'S HEAD BACK,

AND CUTTING OFF HER HAIR WEAVE.

HEATHER CATALLO HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

COP CUTS WOMANS WEAVE-PKG

THIS IS CHARDA GREGORY, A YOUNG MOTHER WHO LOVES HER HAIR. THIS 22-YEAR-OLD HAIR DRESSER LOVES CHANGING HER STYLE OFTEN BY USING WEAVE.

But LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO GREGORY'S HAIR AFTER AN ENCOUNTER with a Warren Police Officer.

EVEN THOUGH THERE'S NO AUDIO ON THE VIDEO FROM INSIDE THE WARREN JAIL, YOU CAN SEE GREGORY IS KICKING HER LEGS, WRITHING IN PAIN AS THE OFFICER PLUNGES SCISSORS INTO HER HAIR, HACKING AWAY AT THE WEAVE THAT WAS SEWN INTO BRAIDS ON HER SCALP.

SO HOW DID THIS ALL BEGIN?

"I was confused. I didn't know what happened and what was going on."

GREGORY SAYS BACK IN NOVEMBER SHE WENT TO A PARTY IN DETROIT, WHERE SHE BELIEVES SOMEONE DRUGGED HER.

PAUL MISUKEWICZ IS HER LAWYER:

"She had a couple of drinks, then woke up in a strange place. Didn't know how she got there.

THAT STRANGE PLACE WAS THE SUEZ MOTEL ON 8 MILE IN WARREN, WHERE GREGORY GOT ARRESTED FOR TRASHING A ROOM.

BY THE TIME SHE WAS BROUGHT IN TO THE JAIL LOCK-UP ON THE TOP FLOOR OF THE WARREN POLICE DEPARTMENT, GREGORY HAD BEEN PEPPER SPRAYED, BUT SHE APPEARS CALM.

IT'S CLEAR IN THE VIDEO THAT GREGORY CAN BARELY STAND AS SHE COMES FACE TO FACE WITH OFFICER BERNADETTE NAJOR.

"She took it upon herself to get the scissors. And for whatever reason, decided that she was going to butcher my client."

AS OFFICER NAJOR PATS GREGORY DOWN, THE OFFICER PUSHES GREGORY AGAINST THE WALL TWICE.

SUDDENLY NAJOR STARTS GOING FOR GREGORY'S HAIR. THE OFFICERS STRUGGLE WITH GREGORY, DRAGGING HER OVER TO A RESTRAINING CHAIR TO TIE DOWN HER ARMS AND LEGS.

OFFICER NAJOR STARTS YANKING GREGORY'S HEAD FROM SIDE TO SIDE, CHOPPING OUT CHUNKS OF HAIR. IT TAKES 3 FULL MINUTES BEFORE NAJOR GIVES ONE FINAL YANK AND REMOVES WHAT'S LEFT OF GREGORY'S WEAVE.

GREGORY TELLS US IN SOME PLACES SHE NOW HAS BALD SPOTS BECAUSE NAJOR RIPPED HER REAL HAIR OUT BY THE ROOTS.

"She's a very horrible person."

"There's a real simple thing: it's called right and wrong. And to me this is something that I won't tolerate, I don't think the citizens of Warren will tolerate it."

COMMISSIONER JERE GREEN SAYS NAJOR'S EXPLANATION THAT SHE HAD TO REMOVE GREGORY'S WEAVE BECAUSE OF ALLEGED THREATS OF SUICIDE MAKES NO SENSE.

"I don't buy that's the proper way to treat a human being. I don't think it's decent, I don't think there was any reason to do it, and when I look at it, that bothers me."

GREEN SAYS AS SOON AS HE LEARNED ABOUT THE INCIDENT, HE PLACED NAJOR ON LEAVE AND SHE HAS SINCE BEEN FIRED. Return to index of stories...
