SEARCHING FOR THAT PERFECT PET

we come here a few times a week and see what dogs are available.

ROBERT PEARSON MAY HAVE MET HIS MATCH.

he wants out of here bad.

BUT IF ROBERT BRINGS THIS DOG HOME TODAY -

HE COULD FACE A NUMBER OF NEW RULES WHEN IT COMES TO RAISING IT TOMORROW.

THAT'S WHEN ANIMAL SERVICES WILL PITCH A SLEW OF ORDINANCE CHANGES TO LEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

only healthy animals are being bred and sold to consumers, and an anti-tethering component to get animals off chains.

DIRECTOR DONNA WARD ALSO WANTS ALL DOGS SPAYED OR NEUTERED UNLESS THE OWNER IS A PROPERLY LICENSED BREEDER.

OR THE DOGS BELONG TO HUNTERS OR CATTLEMEN.

SHE CLAIMS THE NEW RULES WILL SAVE TAXPAYERS.

in the past five years, Lee Coutny Animal Services had to euthanize close to 40 thousand pets at a cost of nearly 20 million dollars to taxpayers. Last Monday alone they had to put down 40 dogs.

IF THAT COST SEEMS UNREASONABLE -

DIRECTOR DONNA WARD SAYS IT IS SPOT ON.

animal care, medical issues, housing, cleaning.

IT ALL ADDS UP.

STILL THESE NEW RULES, IF APPROVED, ARE PUTTING PET PEOPLE LIKE PEARSON, ON EDGE.

there's a fine mix between overbearing government and good pet owners. if they want to come see my dog running around a yard and criticize me, that's crazy Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

NEAR RECORD HEAT TOMORROW

In February, our high temperatures are usually in the pleasant mid-70's each afternoon as our version of "winter" settles in. But this week we have warmer than normal weather to look forward to each day. Wind from a southerly direction will continue to push plenty of humidity over the area tonight and there will likely be a lot of fog to start the day on Tuesday. That south/southwest wind during the day on Tuesday will keep the humidity high and push the temperatures well into the 80's in the afternoon. The record high temperature for tomorrow is 87 and my forecast high is 86. As you can see, we will be 'flirting' with record temperatures on Tuesday. A few showers will fire up along the sea breeze boundary and prevailing winds will push the showers inland.

Looking forward to the rest of the week. it will continue to be warm and rather humid. Another cold front on Wednesday evening could trigger a few showers overnight and into Thursday morning. This front doesn't look set up to bring a cooler weather pattern, but another front this Sunday has a better chance to cool us off next week.
