FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Increasing rain chances"

It certainly was a hot one yesterday as our afternoon high climbed to 88° in Fort Myers. This broke our record high of 87° at Page Field, which was set back in 1997. Over the next few days, temperatures won't be quite as warm as rain prospects increase. We'll finally track some cooler air set to arrive early next week with the passage of a cold front.

A mix of clouds and some sun will take us into the late morning hours as temperatures begin their climb into the middle to upper 70s. Daytime highs will max out in the lower half of the 80s today with increasing clouds during the afternoon. As a front works its way across central Florida and stalls, a few showers will be possible through the afternoon, especially along and east of I-75 as steering winds remain from the south/southwest.

Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the middle 60s. Rain chances will continue to run near 30% with a few widely scattered showers during the evening and overnight period.

Clouds will stick around through Thursday and Friday along with a slight rain chance, before more sunshine breaks out for the first half of the weekend. Temperatures will run several degrees above average for this time of year as highs return to the 80s for Saturday. A stronger cold front will approach the area late Saturday and into early Sunday bringing scattered showers to Southwest Florida. In the wake of this front, a cooler airmass will move in with highs in the middle 70s along with lower humidity. Return to index of stories...

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

IT WAS DARK BY THE TIME COURT WAS ADJOURNED TODAY.

WIDOW NICOLE OULSON LEAVING WITH HER ATTORNEY'S AFTER EIGHT GRUELING HOURS OF TESTIMONY.

"I think everyone can understand what tremendous pain she was going through today and to have to put her through this three days, it's just not fair to anyone."

WHICH IS WHY THE JUDGE TOLD BOTH SIDES THEY *MUST* FINISH THE REST OF THE HEARING ON FRIDAY.

WHAT'S LEFT?

THE MOVIE THEATER SURVEILLANCE VIDEO-

AS WELL AS A VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENT FROM OULSON.

AND THREE MORE WITNESSES FOR THE STATE.

ON TOP OF THE FOUR WE HEARD FROM TODAY.

"As Oulson started to go past us, as he reached my left shoulder I heard him say I can't believe he shot me. He took another step and a half and collapsed on my son. And then he collapsed on my son."

THE STATE SAYS 71-YEAR-OLD CURTIS REEVES SHOT CHAD OULSON AFTER AN ARGUMENT OVER TEXTING DURING THE PREVIEWS.

WITNESS CHARLES CUMMINGS TOLD THE COURT HE OVERHEARD SOME OF THAT EXCHANGE AND COULD TELL REEVES WAS ANGRY WHEN OULSON WOULDN'T PUT HIS CELL PHONE DOWN.

CUMMINGS ALSO ADDED THAT IN NO WAY, DID OULSON THREATEN REEVES BEFORE THE SHOOTING.

"Did you at anytime see Mr. Oulson strike Mr. Reeves?"

"I did not."

"Did you at anytime see Mr. Oulson punch Mr. Reeves?"

"I did not."

THE STATE MAINTAINS REEVES WAS UNPROVOKED WHEN HE TOOK OUT HIS GUN.

BUT THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THE MAN THEY KNOW.

SAY WITNESSES FOR THE DEFENSE.

ONE BY ONE, EACH TOLD THE COURT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN REEVES LOSE HIS TEMPER.

THOUGH HE *DID* LOSE HIS COMPOSURE TODAY WHEN HIS DAUGHTER MENTIONED HER OWN CHILD.

"I never thought that I would be able to have kids. And so my brothers never married and so I guess they thought they were never going to be able to have grand children and it was quite the blessing when my daughter was born." Return to index of stories...

carry-on luggage on domestic flights into Sochi.

Rep. Mike McCaul: I think you're going to see a tightening of the screening

procedures on these types of items that could contain explosive devices,

that could either be used to blow up an airplane going into Russia or be

smuggled into the Sochi area for the Olympics.

Bomb experts say a few tubes of toothpaste could contain as much explosive

power as the amount used in this FBI demonstration test of the so-called

underwear bomb built by al Qaeda.

Frank Cilluffo: A small amount of certain explosives can in fact have grave

damage and can do grave damage on an aircraft.

US authorities briefed on the investigation tell ABC News that the arrests

this week of two women in France are directly connected to the warnings

about toothpaste tube bombs.

And while the initial warning is connected to the Olympics, US officials say

the TSA may soon announce additional security precautions at American

airports out of an abundance of caution. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

"How long did it take, or was it that first night, that the show truly felt it was yours?"

"I would say, probably last Thursday, when I was just getting my groove. Probably last Thursday, yeah."

WHEN IT COMES TO OSTEOPOROSIS, MANY WOMEN ARE UNAWARE THE RISK OF THIN BONES GOES UP AFTER MENOPAUSE.

IT COULD TAKE A BROKEN BONE OR CURVED SPINE BEFORE THEY REALIZE SOMETHING IS

WRONG.

IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS, AMY OSHIER BREAKS DOWN THE BASIS OF THIS DISEASE. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS( osteo )-PKG

PKG:

AS THE POPULATION AGES, EXPERTS EXPECT THE NUMBER OF WOMEN WITH

BONE-THINNING OSTEOPOROSIS TO SURGE. THE MOST VULNERABLE TIME

FOR WOMEN IS AFTER MENOPAUSE.

DR. FLETCHER REYNOLDS/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

9:14 We usually recommend right around the time of menopause, perhaps about 50

years old, that women get a baseline bone density. If it's fine at that time then women

should probably repeat it in about two years and make sure if they're not going to be on

any hormone replacement, that they're not having a rapid decline in their bone density.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Osteoporosis can go under the radar for years. People don't feel their bones

weakening, but may feel the affects- or notice what it's done to their body.

DR. FLETCHER REYNOLDS/ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

RUNS:

:52: There's no pain associated with osteoporosis unless there's a fracture. The classic

example of osteoporosis is kind of the 'humpback' elderly women use to get. Those are

from compression fractures from the spine that cause the spine to curve.

WHILE HORMONES IMPACT THE BODY'S ABILITY TO ABSORB CALCIUM,

THERE ARE OTHER RISK FACTORS. INCLUDING RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS,

MALABSORPTION DISORDERS, LIKE CELIAC OR CROHN'S DISEASE AND

CERTAIN MEDICATIONS. THAT SAID, SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T GET IT.

STAR COLE/WATCHES HER BONE HEALTH

RUNS:

:42: Well I think it's because how active I am at the gym.

AT 75 YEARS OLD, STAR COLE'S BONES ARE STILL GOING STRONG. SHE

PRACTICES WHAT EXPERTS SAY IS A TOP FORM OF PREVENTION: EXERCISE.

STAR COLE/WATCHES HER BONE HEALTH

RUNS:

:42 I come six days a week, I do Zumba four days a week, I swim for two. So I do a variety of

things- I do it for my bones got to keep them strong.

THE BASICS OF OSTEOPOROSIS, ARE TO MONITOR BONE DENSITY, BE AWARE OF

RISK FACTORS AND 'EXERCISE' PREVENTIVE MEASURES- TO KEEP YOU IN THE

BEST BONE HEALTH. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...
