Return to index of stories...

FIRST ALERT FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

A cool front is teasing Southwest Florida this morning, bringing some of us a taste of slightly cooler, less humid weather. The cool front will eventually move through the area late this weekend, but until then, our weather stays fairly warm and humid.

We've got a big spread in temperatures this morning with the front in close proximity; the Naples area is starting out mild and muggy with temperatures in the upper 60s while locations to the north are starting with temperatures as low as the 50s.

The refreshing feel to the air this morning will be brief. As the front drifts back to the north today, temperatures are set to warm back into the low 80s during the afternoon. We'll likely have some cloudier periods during the day, but the clouds should break up enough to give us partial sunshine at times. Winds will come in from the northeast today from 5-15 mph.

A few passing showers will be possible across Southwest Florida today, but our rain chances will stay relatively low at 30%.

As we head into the weekend, we'll likely start off Saturday morning with some fog and low clouds followed by partly cloudy and warm conditions in the afternoon with highs in the low 80s. Some isolated rain will be possible Saturday evening into Sunday morning as a cold front finally pushes through Southwest Florida, bringing us a drop in humidity along with slightly cooler temperatures by Sunday.

Sunday should end up being a very nice day with plenty of sunshine, lower humidity and highs in the upper 70s.

Our forecast looks pretty delightful to start the week as well. Morning temperatures Monday will be in the mid to upper 50s, and we'll warm back into the upper 70s during the afternoon with a mostly sunny sky.

Temperatures start to rebound by midweek with highs back in the 80s, but another cold front will approach the area Wednesday, potentially giving us another stretch of cooler weather for the second half of next week. Return to index of stories...

"We are exposed to more blue light today than at any other point in history"

IT'S CALLED BLUE LIGHT AND YOU CAN'T SEE IT, BUT IT'S THERE.

"Of all the colors blue light has the highest energy and can do the greatest damage to our eyes. Over a lifetime of exposure to blue light we can start to see these oxidative changes occur."

NEW DETAILS AT ELEVEN ABOUT A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FIREFIGHTER WHO WAS PUT IN HANDCUFFS BY POLICE WHILE TRYING TO HELP VICTIMS OF A CAR CRASH.

THE BIZARRE INCIDENT WAS CAPTURED ON CAMERA - NOW MANY ARE WONDERING HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN.

RYAN OWENS REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

GMA CUFFS RESCUE-PKG

SCRIPT:

SOT Dispatch tape: "I don't have time for a cell phone-this is ridiculous"

A firefighter in the back of police cruiser. How'd he end up in handcuffs?

He says just doing his job---stopping to rescue two people in a flipped car

on a California interstate. His firefighting colleagues can't believe it.

SOT more tape: "We're in the middle of patient care with patients on the

freeway and we're trying to protect our scene. And they're putting him in

handcuffs at this time and walking him away."

12 year veteran Jacob Gregoire parked his fire engine so it blocked traffic

on Interstate 805 near San Diego--making sure no cars came close to the

flipped one or to the ambulance the driver and passenger were being loaded

into. As their radio traffic makes clear, the California Highway Patrol

wanted him to move his truck.

SOT Police Radio: "Everything's in the median, fire blocking for no reason

here. One and two lanes, we're trying to get them to move right now."

The firefighter refused--and spent a half hour in the back of that police

cruiser---when he says he should have been helping the injured.

Gregoire was never actually arrested and was released.but his boss, the

fire chief, remains outraged.

SOT Dave Hanneman, Chula Vista Fire Chief

"My engineer followed protocol and did exactly what he was supposed to do.

The fire chief met with the head of the highway patrol and the two released

this statement making nice with each other:

GFX:

"Both of our agencies have the utmost respect for each other and our

respective missions. This was an isolated incident."

An incident some believe has caused a rift between the rescuers we all

depend on in an emergency. Return to index of stories...

NEW RIGHT NOW.

A GRIEVING FATHER'S PLEA TO FACEBOOK TO SEE SOME OF HIS LATE SON'S BIGGEST MOMENTS IN LIFE HAS BEEN ANSWERED.

MELANIE MOON HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

FACEBOOK ANSWERS DAD'S PLEA-PKG

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

I'm calling out to Mark Zuckerburg and Facebook.

IT ALL STARTED WITH A VERY EMOTIONAL PLEA ON YOUTUBE.

MY son passed away on A January 28, 2012 and we can't access his Facebook account.

21 YEAR OLD JESSE BERLIN WAS AN ASPIRING MUSICIAN WHEN HE PASSED AWAY IN HIS SLEEP AT THE AGE OF 21. THE CAUSE OF DEATH RULED INCONCLUSIVE.

WHAT HIS FATHER WANTED TO SEE FROM JESSE'S FACEBOOK ACCOUNT WAS THE NEW LOOKBACK VIDEO.

A QUICK, MUSIC-LADEN WALK DOWN FACEBOOK MEMORY LANE HIGHLIGHTING A USERS BIGGEST MOMENTS ON THE SOCIAL NETWORK.

I sent out a couple of emails, I didn't get a response and I thought, you know I'll just make a video.

THAT YOUTUBE VIDEO WENT VIRAL WITH OVER A MILLION VIEWS.

IT ALSO CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF NEW YORK TV STATION THAT CONTACTED FACEBOOK.

AND LAST NIGHT A REPRESENTATIVE FROM FACEBOOK CALLED BERLIN TO TELL HIM HE WOULD BE GIVEN ACCESS JESSE'S ACCOUNT AND A LOOKBACK VIDEO WOULD BE READY IN JUST A FEW DAYS.

And they also said they're going to look at possibly changing their policy a little bit for family members who have loved who have passed away so they can memorialize their page and make it an easier process.

FOR THE BERLIN'S THIS 62 SECOND VIDEO WILL MEAN THE WORLD TO THEM AS THEY STILL TRY COPE WITH THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF THEIR SON.

It brings just a little more closure to us. We just want a little piece of everything. We can access his account, the most popular post, just little things like that would mean a lot to us. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-CLIP

Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX WALL

JAY LENO LAST NIGHT-PKG

LENO'S FINAL SHOW KICKED OFF WITH SOME CAREER ADVICE FROM JAY'S CELEBRITY FRIENDS AND FORMER GUESTS INCLUDING MATT DAMON, CHARLIE SHEEN, AND EVEN PRESIDENT OBAMA.

"I've decided to make you our new ambassador for Antarctica. Hope you've got a warm coat funny man."

NEXT, JAY'S VERY FIRST GUEST FROM 1992. BILLY CRYSTAL LED A MUSICAL TRIBUTE WITH SOME FAMOUS FACES SINGING AN ODE TO LENO.

"If you were me, you'd buy them all a care."

AND MORE MUSIC FROM COUNTRY SINGER GARTH BROOKS WHO IS ONE OF LENO'S FAVORITE ARTISTS.

"Love you to death."

AFTERWARD OUTSIDE, BROOKS STOPPED TO TALK TO FANS ABOUT THE FINALE.

"I was really proud of him. I think I would have bawled like a baby if I was him."

AND IN THE END, JAY DID BREAKDOWN AS HE THANKED HIS FANS AND HIS STAFF.

"This has been the greatest 22 years of my life."

GIVING A SEND OFF FROM HIS PREDECESSOR, THE LATE JOHNNY CARSON.

"And he said, I bid you all a heartfelt goodnight"

So what's next for Jay Leno? Well we do know that Leno says he does not plan to do another late night show, at least not anytime soon. Others have speculated he may do some specials for NBC, perhaps maybe a car show, but nothing's been confirmed. What we can tell you is Jay Leno is going out on top. In Burbank, Stephanie Stanton NBC News." Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS (natural birth at the hospital)-ON

HAVING A NATURAL BIRTH IS A GOAL MANY WOMEN ARE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE WITHOUT MEDICAL INTERVENTION - BUT MOST STILL WANT THE REASSURANCE OF HAVING EXPERT MEDICAL CARE, NEARBY.

PKG:

GIVING BIRTH- IT'S ONE OF THE MOST NATURAL THINGS IN THE WORLD-

BUT IN A HOSPITAL SETTING, THE NATURAL EXPERIENCE WAS SOMETIMES

LACKING.

NANCY TRAVIS/DIR. WOMEN'S CARE BIRTH SUITES

RUNS:

:30 A typical labor and delivery process- long time ago- is the fathers had to be granted

special permission to even come into the labor room. And the babies went to a central

nursery, which was far away from the mothers.

BY THE 60s AND 70s, MOMS WERE EXPECTING MORE. A NATURAL, FAMILY

CENTERED ENVIRONMENT. IT WAS THE AGE OF LAMAZE CLASSES WITH DADS

AS COACHES. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY- AND HOME-LIKE BIRTHING SUITES.

NANCY TRAVIS/DIR. WOMEN'S CARE BIRTH SUITES

RUNS:

2:30 There's a whole cast of characters that can come to births now. We have doula's

who are labor support persons that the mom will actually hire to bring with her during

her birth. In addition to the husband or father of the baby or her mom or any other

person.

BIRTHING SUITES ARE A COMFORTABLE SPACE FOR MOM'S TO RELAX AND

LET NATURE TAKE IT'S COURSE. ALONG WITH THE COMFORTS OF HOME- ARE

ITEMS TO HELP MOM SPEED DELIVERY.

NANCY TRAVIS/DIR. WOMEN'S CARE BIRTH SUITES

RUNS:

4:13 We encourage her to be upright, walking around, getting in the tub- water does

seem to speed labor, we also have birth balls that we will put mom's on so they will

rock, to make her more comfortable and actually get the baby in the right, optimal

position to be born quicker.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

At Cape Coral Hospital, they observe not only a moment of silence with each new

arrival- but the medical staff observes the Golden Hour, giving families space and

silence. Everyone works quietly, so the family can enjoy a personal experience.

LIZ FINN/RN LABOR & DELIVERY

RUNS:

:39 We try to just step back and let them enjoy their time with their baby.

5:36 There are certain things we need to do in the first hour according to the

pediatricians, but we do those on the mom's stomach.

BEING WITHIN THE HOSPITAL CREATES AN EXTRA LAYER OF COMFORT- MOM

AND BABY ARE MONITORED THROUGHOUT. HELP IS ONLY STEPS AWAY, BUT

SEEMS A WORLD APART TO THE NEW FAMILY. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH

SYSTEM, I'M AMY OSHIER. Return to index of stories...

RAILS WERE PULLED OFF THEIR FOUNDATION.

THE TRAIN NOW RESTING AT ODD ANGLES AND ON THE GROUND WAS LUCKILY EMPTY.

NO ONE WAS HURT.

NOT EVEN WITH THE DEBRIS FINALLY SCATTERED.

"It was kind of zigzagging a little bit. It was all so fast, I had no idea what was going on."

THE TRAIN WENT SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET AFTER THE ACCIDENT STARTED.
