TODAY'S WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.A slight cool down is coming later this weekend after a cool front swings through Southwest Florida tonight into Sunday morning.

Until the front makes it through, we've more warm weather on the way with highs back in the low 80s this afternoon with a mix of clouds and a little sun.

Clouds will be on the increase through the day as the front starts edging its way into Southwest Florida, but we should also manage to see some rays of sun at times, especially father south around Naples and Everglades City.

As the front makes its approach toward the area today, a few passing showers will be possible by the afternoon and evening, but our rain chance should only be in the "isolated" category. The highest rain chance today will be north of the Caloosahatchee River around Port Charlotte, Cape Haze, Englewood and North Port.

Showers will still be possible south of the Caloosahatchee River today but likely not until later this evening and tonight. Overall, rain chances will range from 30-40% with the highest chances the farther north you go.

Our winds shouldn't be too strong today, staying between 5-15 mph mainly out of the southwest.

Clouds will litter our sky through the evening and overnight as the front progresses through South Florida, and we'll likely start out our Sunday morning with lots of clouds and perhaps a couple showers.

Our sky will clear from north to south by the mid to late morning on Sunday, leaving us with mostly sunny and pleasant conditions for the remainder of our Sunday; highs will stay in the upper 70s, and humidity levels will also drop off a bit.

The forecast will work out very nicely to start the week. Temperatures will be a little cool Monday and Tuesday morning with lows dropping into the mid 50s. We'll be in store for plenty of sun and comfortable humidity Monday and Tuesday with highs topping out close to 80 degrees.

Clouds should be on the increase again late Wednesday as another weather system moves into Southwest Florida, bringing us a good chance of rain Wednesday night into Thursday followed by another cool down for the end of next week. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX CENTER

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

.A slight cool down is coming later this weekend after a cool front swings through Southwest Florida tonight into Sunday morning.

FORECAST-WX WALL

A slight cool down is coming later this weekend after a cool front swings through Southwest Florida tonight into Sunday morning.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS: CARDIOLOGY-TRX, VO IN PLASMA

FINDING NEW WAYS TO LOOK INTO THE HEART.

IT'S JUST ONE AREA OF MEDICINE THAT'S BENEFITTING FROM INNOVATION.

IN TODAYS HEALTH MATTERS AMY OSHIER EXPLAINS HOW ADVANCEMENTS ARE MAKING LIFE EASIER ON PATIENTS. Return to index of stories...

HEALTH MATTERS: CARDIOLOGY-PKG1.40

PKG:

WHEN IT COMES TO MATTERS OF THE HEART, DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM IS

HALF THE BATTLE. THAT'S WHERE INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY PLAYS A

ROLE.

DR. ROBERT CROSS/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

:32 Invasive just means that you will do procedures that require needles or actually

intervening inside the body.

THE DIAGNOSTIC FIELD IS BENEFITTING FROM TECHNOLOGY- DEVICES ARE

NOW SMALLER THAN EVER BEFORE. AND WORKING WITH THEM MEANS

LESS TRAUMA TO THE PATIENT. LOOKING FOR BLOCKED ARTERIES IS

OFTEN PERFORMED THROUGH CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION- FOR DECADES

DOCTORS THREADED A CATHETER THROUGH THE GROIN TO TAKE A LOOK-

NOW MANY ARE GAINING ACCESS THROUGH A SMALL ARTERY IN THE WRIST.

DR. ROBERT CROSS/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

1:37 The reason this is nice, it is actually comfortable for the patient. They're able to

get up, if they have a bad back they're able to get up and sit in a chair as soon as the

procedure is done. There's less bleeding, complications.

AMY OSHIER/REPORTING

RUNS:

Another diagnostic tool is the insertable loop recorder, which may define the origins of a

stroke. In particular in young to middle-aged patients with no known cause.

DR. ROBERT CROSS/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

2:32 It's a wireless system that monitors the patients to see if they have any of these

arrhythmias which sometimes could take months to manifest themselves.

OR

2:04 When people have a stroke there's an extensive workup done to find the reason

they had the stroke. A lot of times there's not an initial diagnostic cause that you were

able to find. A lot of times these what they call cryptogenic strokes are caused by

arrthmias.

OR

3:33: It's actually cellular technology it goes under the skin and monitors the heart

rhythm and then if you find out someone does have a-fib it makes a big difference in

treatment.

READING THE WARNING SIGNS IS ANOTHER KEY FUNCTION-TEACHING

PEOPLE TO CONTROL THEIR RISK FACTORS AND PREVENT A FIRST EVENT.

DR. ROBERT CROSS/CARDIOLOGIST

RUNS:

6:22 We can control blood pressure, control cholesterol, control diabetes - try to

convince them to try to quit smoking so that we don't get cardiovascular disease later.

THE NEW NORM IN CARDIOLOGY- IS TO FIND AND FIX PROBLEMS BEFORE

THEY BECOME HEART-BREAKING. FOR LEE MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM, I'M
