MICHAEL DUNN TRIAL FOLLOW-OC-SS-OC

HOLLIE THANKS.

TONIGHT -- WE'RE GETTING AN UPDATE ON A FLORIDA TRIAL -- MAKING NATIONAL HEADLINES.

MICHAEL DUNN IS ON TRIAL FOR KILLING A TEENAGER.

THIS IS BEING DUBBED THE "LOUD MUSIC TRIAL."

SOME SAY THE CASE IS SIMILAR TO THE TRAYVON MARTIN TRIAL --

BUT GEORGE ZIMMERMAN'S ATTORNEY SAYS, A CLAIM OF SELF DEFENSE MAY NOT WORK.

SCOTT THOMPSON HAS THE REPORT. Return to index of stories...

MICHAEL DUNN TRIAL FOLLOW-PKG

THE MICHAEL DUNN TRIAL IS MAKING HEADLINES AS THE PROSECUTION TRIES TO PROVE DUNN INTENTIONALLY KILLED 17-YEAR-OLD JORDAN DAVIS.

BUT DUNN'S ATTORNEY SAYS HE SHOT THE TEEN IN SELF DEFENSE.

And for the first time in his life he had to use a firearm to defend himself.

ATTORNEY MARK O'MARA USED THE SAME DEFENSE TO HELP GEORGE ZIMMERMAN WALK IN THE TRAYVON MARTIN CASE.

AND NOW HE SAYS IT PROBABLY WON'T WORK.

In Zimmerman we had an ongoing argument and altercation. We had physical evidence of a fight. in the Dunn case we have none of that.

DUNN'S FIANCEE RHONDA ROUER TOOK THE STAND SATURDAY EMOTIONALLY DESCRIBING THE EVENTS THAT LED TO DAVIS' DEATH.

SHE SAYS THEY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AT A JACKSONVILLE GAS STATION.

SHE RECALLED DUNN BEING ANNOYED BY THE LOUD MUSIC COMING FROM DAVIS' TRUCK.

And what did the defendant say?

He said I hate that thug music.

ROUER SEEN HERE ON SURVEILLANCE TAPE. WENT INSIDE THE GAS STATION.WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN.

"Omg someone is shooting."

ROUER CLAIMED SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHO WAS SHOOTING, BUT SHE SAID SHE SAW DUNN PUT A GUN INTO THE GLOVE BOX.

THE COUPLE THEN LEFT THE SCENE HEADED FOR A HOTEL. NEVER CALLING 9-11.

Its going to be an uphill battle for the defense to convince them that he acted reasonably with the shooting but the unreasonable behavior of not calling the police should be excused by the emotions of the witness.

DUNN WAS LATER ARRESTED.

DUNN TOLD POLICE.HE WASN'T LOOKING FOR TROUBLE BUT SAW WHAT LOOKED LIKE A WEAPON IN DAVIS' SUV.

I saw a barrel come up on the window like a single shot gun.

BUT POLICE FOUND NO GUN IN THE VEHICLE. THE TRIAL RESUMES MONDAY.

I'M SCOTT THOMPSON REPORTING. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

Thanks to a cool front that moved through Southwest Florida last night, we've got a cooler, less humid evening on the way with temperatures quickly settling into the 60s for the first half of the night and then falling into the 50s by early Monday morning.

The cooler spots overnight will be to the north and deeper inland around Arcadia and Palmdale where temps may drop as low as the lower 50s or upper 40s. The rest of Southwest Florida will spend the early morning hours Monday in the mid to upper 50s.

We've got some great weather in the works to start the week on Monday and Tuesday. After kicking off each morning with temps in the 50s, we'll warm up nicely by the afternoon with highs in the upper 70s Monday and low 80s Tuesday. Both days will feature plenty of sun and only a few clouds.

Wednesday will be a transition day for us as the next cold front approaches Southwest Florida, bringing in some scattered rain and lots of clouds from Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

This next front should clear the area by Thursday afternoon, leaving us with some cooler weather and lower humidity for the end of the week.

Daytime highs on Thursday and Friday should only manage to reach the mid 70s while overnight lows dip down into the low 50s.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE NBC2 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
